Premade Blue Dragon Partial

HeadGives information about the head of the costume. If reviewing a set of ears, the answers would also go in this section.

Wear Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to wear with regard to comfort, fit, material quality, etc.

The head is tight over my face, I’d say it was a 22″ as I’m around 23″. The inside is lined with fleece but I still get poked by the hinges, both point slightly inward so they’ll scratch you as you put it on. So times I’ve worn this I wear a balaclava to help that, but they will still push against your cheeks once on.

Ventilation is alright, I don’t have much of an issue with it. It’s not terrible but after being worn for long I will have to hold the mouth open for fresh air.

Vision is sub par, I would not be able to see with the head on in low lit areas/indoors. It would have to be reasonably bright outside for me to see.

Appearance Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to look at with regard to material quality, design, how closely it matches the concept, etc.

Before I say this, keep in mind the head is an older piece from the artist. They noted they foxed up the following before selling it:
“…I’ve actually updated this mask and added some new thins, including the horns, scales, bigger secondary fangs, cleaned up the shaving, and fixed the furring on the lips and ears…”

I saw no noticeable symmetry problems and for the most part shaving was even. There are major dips with hot glue mark here and there on the ears and one of two places with visible backing, but they don’t bother me. But I am appointed by the severity of the shaving around the right eye, the backing is seen almost all around it. You can see the backing on the front of the lower jaw but because it’s grey it’s not noticeable unless up close. The fur on the head is the typical quality other makers also use.

On my first wear the right upper tooth came out, the left one wiggles a lot but stayed in place; both were hot glued in, un-scored. During my second wear (during the late spring/early summertime) the horns on the head started to fall out. They were also just hot glued in with no scoring or anything to keep them down.

I’m happy with the expression and design of the head.

Hands and FeetGives information about the hands and/or feet of the costume.

I had given the artist my hand measurements and they fit decently, if anything dexterity isn’t the best as the fingers and short but they stay on my hands. The insides are unlined and unmarked but with no seam problems.
Quality is really good. The backing is rough but that’s not the fault of the maker.

The hands are basic in look so there were no issues with getting symmetry and there were no problems with shaving from the looks of it. It was the same quality fur used on the head. There is choppy shaving on the thumb of the left handpaw and the pinky of the right.

I commissioned hands to go along with the head and tail and asked if they would have black fleece pawpads with white claws. The hands were with the correct colored claws but I got white pawpads, I would say that’s the only real complaint I had to that.

TailsGives information about any tails the costume may have.

Wear Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to wear with regard to comfort, fit, material quality, etc.

The tail is nothing cumbersome, it’s light and sits nicely on you. The grey used on the underside of it is a different quality than what was used on the head. I wouldn’t say it was like craft fabric but it was not on the same level as the other furs used. But during all the times I’ve worn it, it has held up just find, no seam issued or holes.

Like the hands, the tail is a basic pattern so the symmetry was no problem and again save for the underside the fur quality is good.

OverallHow satisfied the reviewer is with the overall buying experience, including their interactions with the maker and the resulting final product.

Product Satisfaction How satisfied the reviewer is with the overall look and feel of the costume in its entirety.

How well does everything fit together and match up?

The grey used on the head (jaw) does not match the grey used on the tail, I guess with how far away the head is from the tail you wouldn’t notice but if I wanted to get a bodysuit to match you would be able to tell then. The blues from all three pieces (head, hands, tail) are from different dye lots, but that can only be seen if you laid the pieces next to one another. I can’t fault the artist for this though.

Overall Project Quality

Overall I am satisfied. The head was pre-made, I had a good idea what I was getting but there were bumps I didn’t expect.

Purchase Process Details the interactions between the customer/reviewer and the maker of the item with regard to the buying process.

Initial Contact

Initially yes it was great.

Maker Response Time

At first it only took them a day or two to reply back. After a while it was on and off between months.

Maker Professionalism

How satisfied are you with the level of professionalism and friendliness of the maker?
Very satisfied. Extremely friendly and I’d say professional with their responses. I had no problems when it came to speaking to the about the partial.

How satisfied are you with the overall customer service with the maker?
Service could be improved most certainly. I was not the only one waiting on items purchased/commissioned from the artist by the looks of it.

Project Completion Time

I had no deadlines but was not okay with how long it took to receive. Admittedly I became worried a the days went on to months with no reply. They spoke of living situation issues and moving around and I can only assume that got the best of their time, pushing commissions and such aside for later.

Final Comments

Pros: Polite
Reasonable to work with and talk to
Cute appealing work
Cons: Communication can be sparse.
Tendency to disappear without notice (reads as borderline ignoring customers).
Shaving could use work.

The artist throughout the whole commission was considerate and polite. Not once did I feel they were rude in any manner. Because I purchased a pre-made head and an early work of theirs, I knew what I was potentially getting but that is not to say their work couldn’t help to be improved.
The artist needs to work on their communication and deadlines especially. If they can not make meaningful deadlines with a ready made item, I heavily suggest they reconsider doing commissions then.

FursuitReview asked for clarification on the commission process and the reviewer added the following:

The head and tail were pre-made and ready to go, I asked for hands to be made at the same time I purchased the partial and the maker offered to add white spines to the tail as well and I agreed. At least a two or three weeks I can say were probably because of the hands being made or the spines being added to the tail (I’m also assuming the holiday season slowed things down). Throughout the wait after payment the maker said they were going through some personal life obstacles and something about moving around during this time. Eventually they went silent on communication. The maker would be gone for months at a time.
I wasn’t sure when either the hands or tail were completed during this as I never got a reply on when they were completed, so I can’t give an exact time for those. I’ll say after December 2013 I was simply waiting for my partial to ship/arrive. Messaging them again a while later I got a reply in I believe late May 2015 letting me know my partial actually had been packed away in a box for a while since their move and it would be shipped out the following Wednesday. It arrived in June.
