If you have sold the item since this review, how much did you sell for?
Did the maker meet your deadline?
Absolutely. He was due for RF 2014, and she had him done by July 2014.
Did you tell the maker about any issues you had?
The only issue I had was that the sleeves on my tunic came out far too long and it was 100% my fault because I didn’t have an experienced measuring helper. They went over my hands and flapped around if I didn’t keep them pushed up. I had intended to fix it myself before the con but I totally ran out of time. I explained the problem to her Saturday at the con, and she told me to meet her on Sunday to get it fixed. When I got there the next day, she whipped out a seam ripper, sat down at one of the free-use sewing machines in the headless lounge, and fixed it for free within 10 minutes. Awesome, awesome, awesome of her to do that for me, and I’m super grateful she did.
How many hours have you worn/used the item(s) you’re reviewing?
Give your best estimate.
Over 20, at least.
The fit is near perfect. Nothing feels like it’s squeezing my face, or pressed uncomfortably into my head. The front of my face barely touches the mask, even though the head is completely secure. It doesn’t shift when I turn my head, or fall down gradually with movement.
The vision is about the same as most toony suits I’ve tried! I replaced the buckram with plastic mesh for durability and slightly clearer vision, but it wasn’t unusable before. No blind spot in front; just to the sides, as is normal.
I’m AMAZED at the ventilation in this head, actually. When the mouth is open, the airflow is phenomenal. It isn’t bad when it is closed either! But my gosh. If there is anything I had to say was my favorite aspect of the mask, it is the ventilation. I can keep the head on for hours!
Symmetry is fine! No uneven shave spots, or choppy backing. The airbrushing is spot on and very clean. I haven’t had any bleeding from the paint. The fur looks and feels just as clean and new as the day I got him in the mail!
The expression is super friendly, which is perfect for public suiting. Generally, he’s the one that I take out for the public and he’s been well received.
His eyes are toony static, but I can still change the expression depending on how it’s angled. He’s got a nice smile to him when looking up at him from below which is great for public suiting and not terrifying kids.
The hands fit me so well. I was a little shocked, actually! My hands are a little wonky in shape (big palm, tiny fingers) so handpaws are hard to get right. But these fit, excuse me, like a glove. Nothing shows at all, but that’s also because the nature of the partial. The costume drapes well over any potential exposed skin. I really have to try and get that to happen.
The feet are built on comfortable slippers. I’ve not had an issue with them at all, even when they were brand new and needed breaking in. She uses super durable rubber on on the bottom of her feet, which has held up remarkably well to all the abuse I’ve put them through. I walked in a parade two years ago, and it started to rain halfway through the walk. They became completely soaked through. Still no damage or problems.
Both parts are easy to slip on and off. The feetpaws I’ve actually worn around the house a few times because my feet got cold!
Everything is superb. She used, I believe, silicone for the hand paws, which she cast herself if I’m not mistaken. The hands and feet were not airbrushed, and the fur is very soft and thick. I don’t think I’ve damaged the silicone at all in the 2+ years I’ve had him now.
The claws might be Sculpey but I’m not 100% sure. Regardless, they’ve also held up very well and look wonderful.
The colors used were great, and match the head fantastically.
The tail is floofy as heck and I love it to bits. It has one strap, so it has a nice swing to it when I walk. It is very secure and hasn’t had any issues so far. No popped seams or repairs needed! I’ve accidentally yanked on it a few times and nothing has happened so far.
I LOVE THE TAIL! Holy crap. I love the longer fur on the bottom and the short teddy on the top. Gives it so much depth and character despite it not being attached by anything but a belt loop.
How satisfied are you with how closely the suit matches the concept art?
If there was no concept art, please state N/A
How satisfied are you with how well everything fits together and matches up?
Do you markings match up at the seams? Are the colors consistent?
I haven’t found any inconsistencies with any of it! It’s a very beautiful suit.
How satisfied are you with how easy it was to initially contact the maker for a quote?
Extremely satisfied. She posted a journal about creating the viking suit set for RF; I emailed her, and I got a response about my quote that night. The deposit was submitted and everything was set to go within just a few hours.
How satisfied are you with the response time from the maker?
How long did it take them to respond?
VERY. She kept us in the loop via email every month, sometimes more than that, and would always respond to questions or comments I had about payments or curiosities regarding the current status of the suit.
How satisfied are you with how the deadline was met for completion of your project?
Were any deadlines missed or was it done early?
It was done early!
How satisfied are you with the overall quality of your project?
Very satisfied! Wouldn’t change a thing!
How satisfied are you with the overall customer service and professionalism of the maker?
Temperance is incredible to work with, and easily one of the most professional, yet down to earth, makers I’ve met in the fandom. I’ve not come away from a conversation with her feeling uneasy or upset regarding anything about my commission.
Describe your experience. What were the pros and cons of working with this maker? And any final comments?
My experience with Temperance was one that left me wanting to work with her again on projects in the future. I came away from the commission singing her praises to my friends. She’s truly a hardworking person who puts her heart and soul into every project that comes across her table, and it really shows.
