The fit is very nicely! Vision is much nicer than other suits I have worn and there is lots of breathing room. I also wear glasses and they fit into the mask great!
The symmetry of the suit is amazing, the feathers that are cut into the fur fabric are beautiful and crisp. The fur is not soft but this is because the maker uses a clear spray sealant to keep the feathers looking crisp which is fine by me! The fur is airbrushed but it does not rub off easily (even after brushing and disinfecting).
The expression of the head is very neutral since it is a realistic macaw head. The eyes do follow the viewer which is lovely! It really adds to the realism. There was no concept art provided since this was a pre-made suit but it matches the species it represents to a T.
The hands that came with the head were very comfortable and were half sleeve hands. The fleece was nice and soft. I did have issues with the claws falling out though and they continued to give me trouble even after I attempted repairs.
Inside the hands/arms were very standard. The seams were not finished with a zig zag stitch though which resulted in a popped seam not long after wear.
In the end I made my own hands and armsleeves for the suit primarily because of the issues with the claws.
The appearance of the hands were great, I loved the scale details painted onto them! The claws had a nice shape and length to them as well.
The tail is made of thick funfoam, wire, and with a foam core at the top. It is very sturdy and is able to be posed which is great! The tail loops are sturdy and the tail feathers are holding up great.
The wire armature in the feathers is doing nicely, I love being able to pose the feathers.
The airbrushing on the feathers is beautiful and they are nice and long. This tail is quite large so you can see all of the feathered details in it quite well. The transition from the fur to the feathers is quite nice.
The wire armature in the tail feathers is made of thick wire going down the inside center of each feather. They provide great movement in the tail and also provide some extra stability! The ends of the wires do pose a risk of poking through the funfoam feathers but this is only if the tail is manhandled (which in my care it definitely wont be) so I’m not too worried about that. Its a lovely feature to be added the tail I’m glad its there!
How satisfied are you with how closely the suit matches the concept art?
If there was no concept art, please state N/A
N/A suit was a pre-made costume
How satisfied are you with how well everything fits together and matches up?
Do you markings match up at the seams? Are the colors consistent?
How satisfied are you with how easy it was to initially contact the maker for a quote?
Initial contact was great! She responded quickly and was happy to answer my questions.
How satisfied are you with the response time from the maker?
How long did it take them to respond?
The response time from the maker was normal at first but once my payment was made responses were very slow. I would say this is something the maker needs to improve on greatly. Even though I paid for the suit in June I did not get the pre-made items until August (when typically pre-made suits are shipped off quicker than that).
How satisfied are you with how the deadline was met for completion of your project?
Were any deadlines missed or was it done early?
This was a pre-made costume with just the tail that needed to be completed. I wanted the head and hands to be shipped to me in time for a trip to Florida but she did not ship it to me in time. This did bother me because the head and hands were ready to ship long before hand but she just didn’t ship them to me in time.
I gave her a second date to aim for after I got back from Florida to see if I could get the suit in time for a convention and they ended up getting it to me in time for the second deadline so thats good!
How satisfied are you with the overall quality of your project?
The quality of this suit is phenomenal. The craftsmanship is amazing, I have been making suits for a while and I have seen many other suits in person before and Crystumes’ suits always amaze me. Its very high quality, I love my macaw suit.
How satisfied are you with the overall customer service and professionalism of the maker?
I believe her professionalism could be improved upon primarily with her communication. As stated before communication was very slow and I was not updated at all unless I messaged the maker first. Sometimes my messages would say they were read and would still not get responded to which was frustrating, but her responses were always very kind and in the end her response time did improve when I brought up my concerns with it.
Describe your experience. What were the pros and cons of working with this maker? And any final comments?
Cons of the suit: The hands just weren’t as well made as the rest of the suit resulting in me having to make my own. Lack of finished seams and claws that fell out made them hard to wear.
Pros of the suit: The suit is beautiful and very high quality. The realism is spot on and the costume is very comfortable to wear.
Cons of the service: Her response time was very slow and I got left on read a lot, physically getting the suit also took a while despite it being a pre-made item.
Pros of the service: Once I spoke up about my concerns on the slow responses and shipping she began responding more often and shipped the suit out to me as soon as she could. I appreciate her correction! She is a very kind person and was a joy to talk to, I felt very comfortable asking her any questions I had.
Despite slower response time and not shipping the suit right away.. the suit is amazing and the maker is a joy to talk with. I would highly recommend Crystumes to anyone looking for a realistic fursuit!
