Do you currently still own the item(s) you’re reviewing?
Did the maker meet your deadline?
There was no deadline
Did you tell the maker about any issues you had?
Yes, though the issues were minor and easily fixed.
How many hours have you worn/used the item(s) you’re reviewing?
Give your best estimate.
The head is a resin base, modified with foam. The inside is padded and has a hidden zipper running from the top of the head down the back.
The inside of the head is very well padded. The base used was a little warped and jutted into my jaw a wee bit but it was easily fixed with a bit of extra padding as the original padding in that spot was a little thin. There was also a small crack in the lower jaw which I have since fixed myself.
The jaw has limited movement but it’s very easy to open and close with my jaw.
The ventilation is rather poor but this is understandable as the head is rather compact. when the beak is open the ventilation is great.
The vision is also very limited but this is due to the tear-duct vision at an awkward angle, i can’t see anything infront of me but my other suit head has the same blind spot so I don’t find this too much of an issue.
The head is absolutely stunning.
The symmetry is really good front and back and the shaving is even with no backing showing through even in the thinnest areas.
There are two different types of fur used; a coarser, slightly more bristly fur around the face and a much softer, lighter fur for the throat and neck. The fur does sometimes blow into the mouth and gets into my mouth sometimes.
The air brushing is fairly moderate around the face. I have had people comment on the top of the head looking “dirty” in certain lighting but it doesn’t worry me too much.
The barred markings on the back of the head are rather crunchy but this keeps the shaved feather textures intact in the wind.
The head has resin follow-me eyes which convey a lot of expression at different angles.
The hands don’t fit me very well without light modification (a little extra padding as I have rather thin arms) however they are fairly comfortable to wear with or without the padding. I’m also unable to pick up/ hold some things due to the amount of fur and how long the fingers are but again this isn’t much of a problem for me.
The hands are very well made and haven’t had any of the claws fall out or any seams pop.
Both hands are a single colour so the symmetry is very good. One of the thumb claws is mis-aligned but again, not much of a problem.
The handpaws were not shaved at all, however this is intentional as snowy owls have very fluffy feet. Two different types of fur were used, the same as the head, coarse and thick on the bottom and soft on the top which adds to the realistic effect.
They are not lined which can cause irritation after prolonged wear.
Overall they look and feel rather good, they could do with some lining to help keep the fur backing clean.
I’m very satisfied with the tail it’s very light and barely feels like I’m wearing it. It has a slit in the fur where I can thread a belt through. The feathers are made of a denser material like a fiberous foam which does bend rather easily in storage but easily fixed by laying it out flat with a pillow on top overnight.
The stitching is very good, I haven’t seen any tears or seams popping. I am very cautious of the top of the tail where the belt enters as it’s hard to tell if the belt loop will hold. I may put a few stitches there in the future just to prevent any possible tears.
I haven’t tried/ let anyone pull the tail.
The tail is very realistic and symmetrical.
The shaved feather pattern on the top of the tail is consistent with the markings on the head.
The paint on the tail is the same as what was used on the head, it’s rather crunchy but it helps hold the markings together.
It looks great when worn, sometimes a little awkward under just a Tshirt (but again this is due to the fact I’m a very thin person)
It just takes a bit of fiddling to make it look nice and once it’s on it doesn’t shift or fall on me.
How satisfied are you with how closely the suit matches the concept art?
If there was no concept art, please state N/A
How satisfied are you with how well everything fits together and matches up?
Do you markings match up at the seams? Are the colors consistent?
Yes, all the pieces of the suit are consistent with eachother in colour and proportion.
How satisfied are you with how easy it was to initially contact the maker for a quote?
It was very easy, Crys was quick to respond and was very easy to make an offer.
How satisfied are you with the response time from the maker?
How long did it take them to respond?
They usually replied overnight. There was a small break as they are rather busy but was always very honest about why replying took a little longer than usual.
How satisfied are you with how the deadline was met for completion of your project?
Were any deadlines missed or was it done early?
It took a little while for the item to be shipped, however as I didn’t have a set deadline this wasn’t much of a problem.
There was an issue where the suit was held in Australian Customs for a month as the item was more than $1000aud (converted from USD at the time) which which was annoying but couldn’t be prevented.
How satisfied are you with the overall quality of your project?
I’m very satisfied with the suit despite a few minor issues. It looks amazing and is very fun to wear.
How satisfied are you with the overall customer service and professionalism of the maker?
Customer service was very good, Crys was very pleasant to talk to and was honest and apologetic if any complications arose. The suit did take a while to get shipped, while I personally didn’t find that a problem in this experience I feel like it is something that should be addressed in the future. However overall it was a very good experience and I would’t have a problem contacting them again.
Describe your experience. What were the pros and cons of working with this maker? And any final comments?
Initiating the purchase, paying for the item and conversing with Crystumes was really good, I wasn’t worried the item was shipped late and I did contact her about my concerns which they were very apologetic about the delay.
The suit itself is very high quality and realistic. All the issues I’ve addressed can be easily fixed with little to no damage to the suit. I adore it and will care for it as best I can.
The only real problems I encountered were not with the maker at all, but with Customs Australia. This is definitely something any Australian furry who is wanting to purchase a suit from any overseas maker worth more than $1000aud should take into account.
I had a very pleasant experience purchasing this suit and would highly recommend Crystumes for high quality, realistic fursuits.
