Do you have prior Experience with Fursuits?
I own two other partial fursuits aside from this one and have had one for almost a year and the other a month or two.

Are you Reviewing a Friend?
Please try to remain unbiased if you are!
No I am not
Did you tell the maker about any issues you’ve had?
If you haven’t please explain why
Yes I have. I immediately send them a message in regards to the feet not fitting and worked out a solution with them. I also told them about the lack of a belt loop with the tail but I opted to fix that myself as it was an easy fix. I also informed them of the ear falling off and they told me a quick way to fix it.

Pre-made head upgraded to a Partail fursuit

How satisfied are you with the fit of the head?
Is it too tight or loose? Does anything poke you, stab you, make it uncomfortable to wear? Is it Lined comfortably?

As this was a pre-made, I didn’t expect it to fit me like an absolute glove but expected for it to be relatively close. It was advertised to fit up to 25’ heads which is what my other partial can fit and it is a good nice comfortable fit without my glasses. This head is one where I can fit my head with my glasses on and the head can move once in a while. This doesn’t bug me very much aside from it does sit on me awkwardly. It’s hard to explain but basically if I want to be able to see decently out of the mask, my nose and part of my mouth is covered up. The most comfortable way unfortunately is for my chin to rest at the bottom of the mouth since that is the only way it truly sits right. It’s quite uncomfortable with how it sits and having had other people try this head on, they have the same exact complaints.
The head is not lined inside except for a small bit near where the face is with print fabric (I’m very sure that it is from a dinosaur fleece blanket or a roll of dinosaur fleece) when it was advertised as a balaclava, but other than that there is no balaclava lining the head, only one square of foam on the top and a square of foam that sits behind my head.

**EDIT: My editor and I must have not noticed this as I did go back to looking at the original listing and it said only the face bit was ‘lined with dinosaur PRINT fabric’, and I was to edit that bit since I was mistaken at the time and must have forgotten this fix on the long list of mistakes I needed to fix when we went over the submission.

However, it could be stated that I assumed it was balaclava lined as many suits are lined with that fabric or one that is very breathable, NOT with FLEECE fabric. I will edit the FursuitCritique submission with my edit when I am able. Sorry about that! **

How satisfied are you with the vision?
Can you see well in front of you? Is there a large blind spot? Do you have to turn your head to see? (Note that most suits do not have peripheral vision)
Comparing my other suits vision to this one, the vision isn’t stellar. I believe the materials for the eyes are different than what I’m used to with my other partial (not sure if it’s buckram or what it is on this suit, I assume buckram but not sure). But the vision is very limited and despite having my glasses on perfectly, I have issues (however it’s nothing I can’t handle). The vision seems a lot…cloudier I guess is the best term I can come up with for it. My glasses can fit inside of the head well but vision is still hazy

How satisfied are you with the ventilation?
Can you breathe well? Is the mask stuffy? Does the air circulate through your head?
This is probably one of the biggest issues I have with the head is this. There is little to no ventilation. Part of the mouth is open but the hole is considerably small when it comes to breathing. The way the mask sits on my face, again as stated above, does make my breathing even more restricted. After wearing him a local meet (which is where I really wore him) I had to periodically take him off as I was unable to breathe properly at many points without opening his mouth further myself. Between the lack of the mouth being open, hardly any vent areas, and the fleece that lines the face, it makes it even more boiling. I could not walk around with him for more than half an hour before I had to take him off to get a good fresh breath of air. Compared to my other suits this is hardly an issue (being able to wear Shock Top with ease for 1-2 hours and Trogdor for the same amount as him).

How satisfied are you with the symmetry of the head?
Are the eyes or ears lopsided? Are the markings symmetrical per character design?
The symmetry on this head is quite good. Everything seems perfect to me in this area. I truly do love his design to pieces.

Is the Shaving even?
Can you see the backing? Is it choppy? Is the transition to long fur what you were looking for?
I am not an expert with shaving but from what I can tell it looks all right. I know in a spot or two it’s a little choppy and could be questionable.

How satisfied are you with the expression and overall appearance of the head?
Overall I absolutely adore the expression and how much character is presented on the head. However my qualms possibly stem from it not being built upon a balaclava base like I am used to but I understand some heads aren’t built on them. The original ad on Furbuy did say it had a ‘lined face’ and I assumed that meant balaclava lined However the up close appearance has gotten a bit of flack. It’s easy to tell in some areas where the fur was glued down and on the snout I’m not sure what happened but it looks like the fabric is coming off. The fur that hangs down in the front is uneven and feels like a last second added piece to the head, same with the hood.
Overall I do like the head the way it looks but how it is put together and looks at different angles its…okayish? There is a bit on the front of the muzzle where the fabric is slowly coming apart. Considering this suit has hardly seen any time outside of his box, I can only assume that it is the glue slowly beginning to lose it’s hold and thus it is beginning to split.
There is a small hole on the left cheek that I noticed when opening. You can see some of the foam exposed but generally it’s not noticeable unless you look right up at the face.

How satisfied are you with how the body fits?
Is it comfortable to wear? Does it allow for good movement?

How satisfied are you with the quality and durability of the body?
Are the seams durable? Can you move without popping seams?

How satisfied are you with the selection of colors and material?

Hands and Feet

How satisfied are you with the fit of the hands and feet?
Will your wrists/ankles show is you stretch too much? Do they stay on your hands or do they slide off? Can you put them on comfortably with ease?

The handpaws are directly sewn onto the arm sleeves so my wrists do not show. They are very easy to slip on and slide off without any problems at all. My only issue is if they were 1-2 inches longer so they can fit just a little better. They reach almost up to my arm pit but they cut a little short. I will state right here that I was not asked for measurements for my hands, wrist, arm or length of my arm so that is why they do not fit right. There was a bit of snugness in the handpaws but a quick switch of one of my fingers to another space and it was fine. It should also be mentioned I had NO idea sleeves were being made for this suit as well. I was aware it was hands, feet, and tail be added on with the head so the sleeves were a huge surprise to me when I saw the progress pictures.
As for feet well…I had to send the first pair I received back to the maker as they did not fit. I would like to note I had no prior experience to feetpaws and arm sleeves so this was my very first time dealing with them. After a little research once I received them, it became clear that this was a mistake on both the parties parts; mine for not being knowledgeable on the armsleeves and the maker for not requesting measurements.
With the feetpaws, basically I could only get in maybe 1/3rd to ½ of my foot into the feet before circulation began to be cut off. They were dreadfully too tight on me. They were the correct shoe size (9 wide in womens) so I’m not entirely sure why they couldn’t fit me. My only assumption is the type of shoe the maker chose to use for them. The maker informed me that the laces were removed and the flaps were glued down which would explain the snugness and inability for me to get my feet inside. This mistake was easily rectified and I shipped the shoes back along with a pair of brand new shoes I went out and purchased (I offered to provide my own shoes to make sure this time there’s no issues when it came to fitting). Again, after doing more research, I found out that many makers request that the commissioner send a pair of shoes that fit them. Once more this could be both our faults for this issue but as stated I had little experience with feetpaws and the maker of the suit has made costumes in the past, I figure they would be aware and know what they were doing.
As of sending the previous feet back along with a new pair of shoes for the maker to build feet on, the maker has gone off to Florida for a job and informed me they will not be returning till December. Due to not being able to complete them in a timely manner, they will be giving me a partial refund when they figure out what would be a good price for them.
The maker did get back to me about what would be a fair price after. I asked her what would be good and waited a month for her reply to where she asked if $70 would be good with me. I agreed and waited for her to send the money to me.
After waiting for almost two weeks, I was fed up with waiting for my refund, as the maker was very active in other places, even holding a contest but not checking her messages in other places. So I took matters into my own hands and called PayPal to get my money from her. PayPal did just that and later that night I received my refund. Before calling PayPal I DID send a request and several reminders to the PayPal she originally had me pay the money for the suit to.

How satisfied are you with the quality of the hands and feet?
Has anything come undone or fallen apart? Have any pawpads or claws fallen off?
There were no claws nor paw pads on the hands so nothing has fallen off or come apart. I am quite satisfied with the hands! They fit nice and they are wonderful to wear. My only issue is that you can see very clearly the black (or navy blue, I think it might be navy blue) thread that was used to sew the armsleeves and hands. While not a huge issue, it is quite a very…noticeable flaw of the suit.

How satisfied are you with the quality of your tail?
Is it too cumbersome? Can you pull on it without tearing? Are the straps secure and even?

The tail is quite lovely and is made out of wonderful materials. The issue there was with the tail was that the belt loop was half made and the rest sewn into the seams of the tail. The maker blames this to working under stress which could have lead to the mistake.
That being said, my feelings about the tail are half and half. The tail seems to be…lopsided when you look at it. Its almost as if it goes to one side and isnt even. I do not know how durable the belt loop is considering I cut the other side to allow a belt to go through. I suppose it is durable I guess. I do love the fur used to make the tail, quite soft, but obviously the fact the tail loop was sewn into the side is a huge issue.

How accurate to your concept art is your tail?
Did they get all the markings? Are the colors accurate?

How satisfied are you with the quality of your ears?
Are they too cumbersome? Can you pull on them without tearing? Are they even on your head?

I absolutely adore the ears! They are squishy and plush but I am afraid of anyone pulling on them. I have noticed that pretty much most of the fur is glued onto the base. I don’t know if most suits have this or not but I know my other suit has minimal gluing on it and quite a bit of sewing. That being said I did notice a little…hole I guess where I could see part of my finger through where it connects to the hood. Like I said most of this head is glued together in areas and that is a worry of mine. I have noticed that a bit of the fur near the base on the front is pulling up and that worries me too.
After a meet in which I wore him on and off for 2-3 hours, he seemed perfectly fine but a little while later I noticed his left ear is almost half off his head. I would like to note that I take good care of my suits and I’ve never had something like this happen before (always cleaned, always brushed, always maintained to look their best before meets). The ears were glued onto him as were most of his other bits. I contacted the maker and found out that hot glue does not work well on expanding foam (which the maker admitted they did not know at the time when she made this head) and that it would be best for me to use Gorilla Glue to make the repairs myself. I have not made the repairs yet to the head, as I need to photograph all the evidence and I cannot let this pass.

How satisfied are you with the ease of wearing your ears?
Do they fall off? Are they painful to clip on? Do you require someone else to put them on for you?
They don’t fall off but the left ear is close to falling off and I fear the same may happen to the other as I was told hot glue does not do well on expanding foam.

How satisfied are you with the quality of your wings?
Are they too cumbersome? Can you pull on them without tearing? Are the straps secure and even?

How satisfied are you with the ease of wearing your wings?
Do they fall off? Do you require someone else to put them on for you? Do they weigh you down?

Arm/Leg Warmers/Sleeves

How satisfied are you with the quality of your sleeves/warmers?
Are they too cumbersome? Can you pull on them without tearing?
They aren’t cumbersome at all and I love them to death! Can pull on them without tearing as well.

How accurate to your concept art are your sleeves/warmers?
Did they get all the markings? Are the colors accurate?

How satisfied are you with the ease of wearing your sleeves/warmers?
Do they fall off?
Very satisfied with the arm sleeves, my only gripe is that they do tend to slip off as they are not a 100% perfect fit.

Visual Aspects

How satisfied are you with how closely the suit matched the concept art?
If there was none, please state N/A

How satisfied are you with the consistency of your suit to the makers style?
I’d say I’m pretty satisfied with how consistent it remained over all to their style. Very impressed.

How satisfied are you with the overall quality?
Are all the seams durable? Has anything fallen apart? Are there any holes?

The seams on the hands and arms seem durable. I did find one hole behind the ear on the left side in the hood and it does concern me that from the looks of it with everything being glued, there could be more holes. There is also a hole or what seems to be on the left side of the head, on the cheek where the black and white portions meet. I’m not sure how this came about honestly but I noticed it about…a week after getting it and my friend doing her test of the suit (we’re basically both wearing the suit however I’m the owner and the main person wearing it).
The Fleece on the muzzle in the front seems to be slowly pulling off? I believe that is how to describe it.
Teeth are slowly losing their grip in the mouth and wiggle if touched so I think the glue might be wearing off there.
The tail seems to be sewn and stuffed and seems lopsided and we had to finish up the beltloop as the maker accidentally sewed the other side into the tail.
Left ear began to fall off after about 2-3 hours of use at a fur meet.

How satisfied are you with how well everything fits together and matches up?
Do you markings match up at the seams? Are the colors consistent?
Everything is consistent throughout the suit.

How satisfied are you with how easy it was to initially contact the maker for a quote?
Did they take an unreasonably long time to respond?

It was very easy to get in contact with the maker at the time of purchasing the suit. I asked if they would be able to make it into a partial and they said they absolutely could.

How satisfied are you with the response time from the maker?
Words can’t even begin to describe how BADLY I wanted to rip out my hair over the stress of not being replied to within a reasonable time frame. They would respond within the same day…sometimes. Other than that it was like pulling teeth to get a response. I would always have to initiate contact or wait weeks to almost a month for even a reply. I can sympathize with the maker having issues communicating but when you run a business, you do not keep customers waiting for nearly a month at points for a response. Sometimes yes they responded quite quickly but other than that it was ridiculous.

How satisfied are you with the level of professionalism and friendliness of the maker?
Were they pleasant to work with?

The maker did remain professional throughout the experience and they were very friendly during our correspondences. The last message I received from them after calling PayPal though seemed a little salty…or that could just be my interpretation of the message. It was simply ‘I literally haven’t been on FA. I’ll send your refund now.’. Could be just me reading it wrong but hey can’t express emotions well over text message.

How satisfied are you with how the deadline was met for completion of your project?
Were any deadlines missed or was it done early?

I did not have a set deadline for the maker. However I was told various different completion dates by the maker. The very first was that the parts would be done within a week and he would be shipped out. Of course this did not happen and it did get me frustrated however I do kow suits take longer than a week to make. However the issue with this is the CONSTANT let down and hopes being raised only to get knocked down by the maker. It would have been fine if they said it would take a while but CONSTANTLY the dates changed. Dates changed several more times till no more dates were given to me and eventually, I stopped asking. Several dates she stated the suit would be finished and sent out came and went with absolutely NO WORD from the maker till I initiated contact once again.
I was told near the very tail end he was in a box and would be shipped but it took nearly a month for him to be sent off and I was left with a useless tracking number for 10 days.
So in short: I was no where NEAR satisfied with the ‘deadlines’. They would all come and go (I even gave leeway of SEVERAL days for them to make up to ship it out several times), I had to contact them, I was told another ‘date’ and then the whole process would repeat. Again and again and again and again it was a constant barrage of disappointment and hopes being crushed and that certainly helped contribute to my dislike of this suit.

How satisfied are you with the overall quality of your project?

Looking back on it, I’d say I will not ever commission this person for anything again. In all honestly this suit has not given me very much joy with all the hiccups and issues I’ve had with it. The only reason I haven’t sold it off is because 1.) I would not want someone else to deal with the issues this suit has knowing them and 2.) I do like his design and have plans to get him totally re-done in the future by a more trustworthy maker. The quality is okay and I would say ‘I got what I paid for’ but I don’t think this is the case. I got a brand new partial off another maker and it was SIGNIFICANTLY higher quality than this suit. That too was also made on a base. The only thing different was the other parts needed to be made by Guiseppes maker and I had to wait a bit.
I feel bad in saying anything negative because I generally do not like being a negative person but I CANNOT ignore the issues with this suit and the problems I had overall. Others should know of the possibilities of this happening to them with this specific maker.
The issues with the head, the sight, the ventilation, ect., puts me and my friend in a situation where we don’t feel comfortable wearing the head for long periods of time or outside at a convention. We had planned to take him to Anthrocon 2015 but with the limitations it just wasn’t possible and we deemed him not very safe. With balaclava’s on our heads to keep everything good, we could hardly breathe! Granted breathing isn’t amazing with fursuits but this…if it wasn’t for how easily we could get it on and off my god…I wear this suit with SO much caution. With the whole trying to find out what the refund would be for a month and then waiting for 2 weeks, literally what little joy I had was sucked out and now due to how he is made and is considered a ticking time bomb due to the hot glue, he sits in his box looking pretty and that’s it.

How satisfied are you with the overall customer service with the maker?

Customer service was hardly anything to talk about. Yes the maker did respond to me at times but there were some instances where I heard nothing back for weeks at a time. 2-3 days is completely understandable to wait for a response time but 10+ days – a month? That’s excessive and this happened several times within the past year. It was un-acceptable.

Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, or any Final Comments

My experience has been…I can’t lie it’s been really bad. My main issues on my end ended up being that I was frustrated at the more or less continual date changes of completion as well as not receiving any progress pictures till about…3 days before it was shipped out. I mostly asked for the pictures because I had no clue till the little bit before the costume was shipped that the parts existed. I was told at different times the hands were done or the arms were done or the feet, ect. So I guess I was worried and skeptical? The constant changing of when it would be out and the maker repeatedly saying everything would be finished by such and such did put me off a bit. I would have been okay if the maker said ‘it won’t be out till such and such date in the future of a few months or so’ or whatever but I was told next week this date till it just never happened. I know suit makers have a time frame in which things would be done but each frame of time I was told seemed rather…unbelievable. For a while I had been afraid I had been taken for my money because of how everything changed all the time. It would go from ‘just this needs to be finished since everything else is done!’ to they still needed to make all the parts? It was a confusing and frustrating experience. For a while I had a hard time even taking the maker for their word and then I realized, I shouldn’t.
Shipping was also a very big issue as I was told the partial was finished and waited nearly a month for it to be shipped out. I had a tracking number for around 10 days within that month that was pretty useless. I was told there were issues in the mailman coming to pick up the packages and she had no idea but then at one point I was told her post office was right down the road so…I was confused as to why the maker simply didn’t just grab the box, walk down and send it off instead of making me wait 10 extra days.
While the maker was very kind and courteous when I messaged them, my issue was I had to be the one to initiate contact with the maker every time. I would have greatly appreciated if the maker came to me themselves and said they didn’t expect it to be done during this date and so fourth or if they expected a delay. I don’t pay much attention to journals when it comes to updates on things aside from once in a while and there were times where I had to go back and see in their journals if something was happening (and there seemed to be something happening a lot and me being the person I am, would put off contact till I would be pushed to ask what was going on because I didn’t want to be added stress on them). I learned however pretty quickly to then begin to pay attention to the makers journals about updates from then on.
I do believe the maker did their best in making some of the head…but certain things such as the hood and the front flap look completely like after thoughts to the final product. The white front is lopsided, the hood is hot glued on with holes in the glue seams, it seemed very very VERY rushed when they had a good…6 months/half a year for this partial alone.
I wish I would have been told personally about them leaving for Florida for their job (I found this out through journals) and while I am happy they are able to live out their dream working where they are, I do feel a little…ehhh as to the fact they said the feet would be finished by the end of the week before they were to leave (May 27th).
Overall while I do truly love this head to bits and the style, there are many things that happened and I feel very…burnt out and irritated. I will be seeing if into the future of getting him refurbished by another maker which I have a feeling could be quite a large overhaul of everything but genuinely I do not feel safe wearing this suit with the very limited visibility for a fursuit, the parts falling off and uneasiness of things like this happening with more of it considering it was mostly hot glued, and the extreme lack of ventilation. I came close to giving this whole experience an F from everything but considering it has a cute face…really that’s the only reason this isn’t an F grading. However I will be filing an Artist Beware against this maker, due to all the problems and issues I’ve had this past year. It pains me to give the grading I am giving and to put up a beware, but I implore the maker to take this as a learning experience when it comes to making costumes and conducting their business.
