Wear Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to wear with regard to comfort, fit, material quality, etc.

The head is uncomfortable. The fit is fine, but the cord for the fan in the head digs into my neck. It is lined neatly inside which is one of the things I like about the suit.

The ventilation is pretty terrible, unfortunately. The mouth is not very open and too low down for my mouth, so I can barely breathe in it.

The vision is actually very good, however I have virtually no vision aside from directly in front of myself because the eyes are so forward set on the head.

Appearance Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to look at with regard to material quality, design, how closely it matches the concept, etc.

Off the bat, I will mention that the stars all over my characters body were decided far in advance to be omitted. She did not factor these stars into my quote and I was clear that I did not need them on the suit, so there are purposefully no stars on the suit.

Unfortunately, the head is littered with choppy shaving and cheap craft fur. The white fur on the muzzle is fun fur and you can see the backing. It is very rough and crunchy.

The shaving is uneven, there are razor nicks and marks everywhere, some places are shaved short and some are left long (not purposefully, in a very.. butchered way) and there are holes in the head, including a big massive hole where the ear meets the head and on the nose. There are little sprigs of long unshaved fur sticking up everywhere.

On top of this, Amina -head of PyropeCostumes- used the completely wrong fur colour on the back of my head and on the lower cheeks/jaws. I specifically requested and linked her to the fur I wanted for yellow (punky muppet neon yellow) and told her that this is the exact fur she would need to use- I paid for the fur factored into my commission and that was MY fur for the commission. I was extremely clear about this being the only yellow/orange I would accept on the suit. She asked and sent a picture of sunshine yellow fur she had in stock and asked if that would be OK and I said no, very clearly.

Amina ordered the neon yellow I specifically requested, however used a mishmash of sunshine yellow and my neon yellow on my suit. It was extremely obvious in WIP photos.

I questioned her about this while the suit was being built as the WIP photos made me wonder why the furs were different, and she assured me it was all one colour.

When I received the suit, it was 100% clear that she had used the incorrect furs. The colour was wildly different and the texture of the sunshine yellow was much more wiry/older.
I confronted her about this and she then said ‘yes I know, the fur you wanted had problems, it’s all the same fabric but it was gradiented and weirdly dyed.’ I didn’t buy that excuse and asked again, and she still insisted it was all the same fur. Finally after realising she could not hide the fact the furs were different, she said she did indeed use different furs and ‘didnt notice the colour difference.’ She then offered to fix it if I would pay for half of the shipping (shipping to Mexico is expensive, risky and slow.) I would not have minded paying half for shipping if I didn’t notice this in photos and bring it up to her, but since I did and was blatantly lied to about it, I felt PyropeCostumes should have paid shipping.

I declined as I had already spent so much on this suit and she did not make any offer to fix it again. The difference is very noticeable and I hate wearing the head.

Another issue with PyropeCostumes modifying my design without my permission was her making the back of my neck turquoise instead of dark blue as clearly shown on the ref. I hide this with a dark blue bandanna.

She also used cheap, shiny felt to glue on the eyebrow spots and eye markings for my character, which she could easily have done with fur. It looks cheap in person and in photos. She did this to cut costs for herself. I know she is perfectly capable of sewing these markings as she did so for other heads, including my first head from her.

On top of all of this, the back of the head is completely flat. It looks ridiculous while I wear it. I never noticed until multiple people pointed it out and I saw it in photos. There is no foam or anything to give the back shape or any foam on the sides for the transition.

The head looks good from one angle (the front) and I will admit it is very cute from the front, but the flaws are glaring and obvious. The face is very flat. I also requested teeth (a standard in her fursuits) and did not get teeth.

Wear Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to wear with regard to comfort, fit, material quality, etc.

The body is comfortable. Tight at first but fine. Everything is totally okay with the body to be honest, she did a good job on it. No seams have torn so far. All fur used on the body is correct. There are construction marks on the inside made with a black sharpie, but I so far have not had issues with bleeding.

My biggest complaint about the body is that she made the tail hole so high up. It is on my mid/upper back which is uncomfortable to feel my tail so high up.

Body looks totally fine, no complaints on the body’s appearance aside from again tail being high up. The fur is all what I requested/linked her for the body at least. The shaving on the tummy planet is choppy but it’s not that bad. The tummy planet is also backwards, but again I guess I don’t really care.

Wear Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to wear with regard to comfort, fit, material quality, etc.

The hands are fine, no complaints besides the fact that they are too big around the wrists. They are a little short but it’s okay.

The feet are built on crocs, which get uncomfortable for me personally. They are very squeaky when I walk which is embarrassing. There is no lining inside either the handpaws or feetpaws.

The hands look totally fine except for something major. I requested she shave the palms of my paws down like she does for all of her other suits (including my first suit from her.) however she finished my handpaws fast and I did not get WIPs of the bottoms/palms of the paws. I asked her to shave them and she said no it would be too hard. I told her I was unhappy regarding this and it was brushed off and not addressed.

The claws on the handpaws and the feetpaws were sewn with black thread on white fleece. There is black thread showing as well as black marker on the claws. She did ask me if she could make my claws blue minky, as she did not have the material to make white minky claws to which I declined and asked her to make them white. Thankfully, she ended up making the claws out of white fleece.

The feetpaws are very flat and blocky. Zero shaping done anywhere. I was not shown any WIPs of my feetpaws. I own another pair of feet from her which are much more shaped and 3D.

Tail is fine, standard tail, however it lilts to the side badly which is a standard thing I have noticed with PyropeCostumes tails.

Appearance Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to look at with regard to material quality, design, how closely it matches the concept, etc.

Amina purposefully left out a key part of my design on my tail. If you notice, my character’s reference has white lines going down the tail. Amina confirmed that she would do these for me and I was shown a tail pattern with the white lines patterned into it.

I was not shown a proper photo of the tail at all when it was finished, but when I was finally shown one, I noticed there were no white lines. I asked her about this and she simply said “oh I couldn’t do them.”

This was extremely upsetting as the white lines are key to my character. I asked her to please try again to do them and she said “they were lost in the rest of the fur.” This doesn’t make sense to me as the white lines were supposed to be patterned into the fur itself, so they wouldn’t be lost. I am a maker myself, and while making these lines into the pattern would be tricky, it’s definitely doable.

I asked her to try maybe with just sewing ribbon on top, as I just wanted the lines on there, and she told me “I might try again and then if necessary, I’ll make another tail later.

I understand that not all makers may have the skillset to make this tail, however, just proceeding with the tail after confirming and showing me a final pattern for the tail WITH the lines, and making it without the lines without telling me, is unacceptable. I paid for the tail to be made correctly and would rather have accepted a refund for the tail and just make it myself.

How was your concept art realized?

The biggest things that I am upset with is her using the completely wrong colour fur for my head on the lower jaw/cheeks and the back of the head, her leaving out the white lines in my character’s tail without even checking with me or letting me know, and her making the back of my neck turquoise instead of dark blue.

I am also not very happy with how huge/blocky the hair turned out and how wide it is at the back.

I had to correct her with the stomach marking (thankfully i caught her before she had sewn it as I don’t think she would have gone back to fix it.) Otherwise I feel she did fine translating my character into suit, especially with the complicated gradients. I was 100% aware that the gradienting would not be translatable into fursuit.

How well does everything fit together and match up?

Everything matches up fine except for the head. The back is so flat that it looks extremely strange wearing it from the side. I have learned that this is a typical problem with PyropeCostume’s heads.

The feet are not consistent with her normal style which is a bit upsetting.

Overall Project Quality

No. I am not happy with the product I received. $2000 is a cheap price for a fursuit, but the amount of corners she cut on the project is not worth the headache I have gone through to get my suit.

Initial Contact

Easy, as I was already working with her on another suit when I commissioned this one. We talked via facebook on her personal FB account.

Maker Response Time

HORRIBLE! PyropeCostumes would ignore me for days on end when I was asking crucial questions about the suit, ignore me when deadlines would come and go, ignore questions I would ask and when she would even get back to me, skip over the ones she didn’t want to answer, and leave me in the dark about so many things. I am aware that it is difficult to work sometimes when customers are asking for questions, but when asking crucial questions about the suit, or for updates when I would be promised them (which is when I would be asking her for a reply on FB) you should at least take a moment to answer your customer if you are missing their due date.

Maker Professionalism

I was very, very unsatisfied with her professionalism. Where do I start?

She constantly works out of her queue and takes on projects that aren’t even listed in her queue. She ignored customers from 2017 to work on newer commissions, and had clients not on her queue (which is what I mean by she took on projects not on her queue.) None of her customers are shown a TOS (I wasn’t) and it is on her Facebook only.

She put off commissions to make on her personal suit and her best friend’s suit for a convention, missing my deadline completely.

When my deadlines would come and go and she would be ignoring me, when I would finally get a response usually past the deadline, it was “I can’t do it, but I will be done by X date now!” and that would just go on and on.

I had paid off over half the suit as needed to start the commission (her TOS, which I was not shown but found later that 50% of the payment is needed to make the suit) and offered to pay off the rest before completion. However, PyropeCostumes told me that she would like me to wait until she finished the suit to pay for the rest, and I planned accordingly. A while after that (however far before she was finished) she messaged me and asked for the remainder of the suit balance AND shipping cost.

It is worth mentioning that her own TOS (again which we are not shown, but I will include this for the sake of the review on her professionalism) that she says shipping is to be paid after the suit is complete.

At this time, we were approaching another one of her self imposed deadlines, so I thought maybe she had busted her butt and finished my suit (even though from what WIPs I had at this point, he was not done.) and told her “I thought we were waiting until he was done!! How much do I owe you?” I paid up in full, and asked her “so is my suit done like you said?” and she said no, because she had a convention and was working on her personal suit and her best friends suit. This is one of the many examples of her poor customer service. She had asked me for the remainder of the balance on my suit to fund her convention and buying merch at con- I later saw that she had posted that she was going to spend X amount of money (a large amount) at the con.

Another issue with her missing a deadline was when her dog got sick- I totally understood, but she sent me graphic photos of her dog being ill including bodily fluids. These kinds of pictures should NOT be sent to customers.

After she had missed a some of my actual convention deadlines, I finally told her I would NEED Mercury done on time for Anthro Northwest. I also told her to please not use Estafeta shipping service (the shipping she had previously used for me, the package arrived with my suit literally hanging out of it and took forever, much longer than their estimated time.) and requested she use UPS or DHL. When she shipped my suit, I was given a tracking number. It did not work on UPS or DHL’s websites. I asked her about this and she told me, surprise, she had used Estafeta. I ended up getting my suit barely on time, RIGHT as I was about to leave for Anthro Northwest, thankfully.

When I would bring up problems with the suit, like the incorrect fur colour, I would receive lies and excuses. When she finally admitted to using the wrong colour, she would say things like “I’m sorry, I try my best to do my best and there is always something wrong, I can’t do anything right” etc to invoke pity. I felt terrible for her and let her know this wasn’t anything personal at all and affirmed many times that I loved her work and my suit, but I was just disappointed how that unfolded.

On top of all of this, she and her friend were bodyshaming me on one of her posts and she did nothing to stop that.

My previous suit from her was also full of problems, although I brushed them off as I wanted to support her work and liked it, so I brushed these issues off as normal, but when I got the incorrectly made tail and the head with the wrong colours, I knew that i would need to get these refurbished or do it myself. For that reason I asked her for a refund of $450 to cover having a new tail made, ordering new neon yellow fur to redo the back of the head, and the lower jaw, and paying for someone’s labour (and I knew i would probably end up paying more than $450 for all of this) she freaked out and began saying how this was the end of her company, thanking me for destroying her, and saying I was putting her ‘economy at risk.’ I am not one to look into someone’s personal life and spending habits and call them out, but Amina commissioned a LOT of art, took constant vacations, and seemed to be a big spender (I know this as I was friends with her on her personal FB and twitter. I know she postblocked me from some stuff too) She then lied about me to her friends saying I was asking for $700 from her for ‘making a little mistake.’

As I mentioned earlier, I had paid her shipping as requested in advance, and after I got the suit she came back to me saying that I owed her shipping money and hadn’t paid for it. I told her I had and she insisted I had not. I had to scroll all the way back and send her calculations and proof that I had paid for the shipping on my suit.

She would also badmouth her customers on her personal twitter, and when confronted, would say “it’s my twitter and I can post whatever I want.”

Project Completion Time

April to November for a full digi suit isn’t bad at all. However, I was extremely annoyed by all the dates she set and missed, at this point I can’t even count, and it was more than just a couple or a few. When I initially asked for a certain due date, she had informed me that it might be a little soon for her, but she could probably meet it, so I wasn’t too upset about the first one being missed, but the amount of her own, self imposed due dates that she had missed was very disappointing. The missed deadlines would not have been nearly as disappointing if she had not continued to set and miss them.

Final Comments

I could not, in good consciousness, recommend PyropeCostumes to anyone else, and feel so bad for the friends I referred to her as they are having similar/worse issues with her. I really cannot make excuses for her lack of professionalism. For the longest time I have been TERRIFIED of submitting this review and taking down/back the positive things I said about her, as she is known for badmouthing/calling/sending white knights out to people who do not agree with her but I really cannot stay silent any longer.

I truly do like Amina’s style when she puts effort into her suits and think that she could be a great suit maker, but the lack of care she puts into both her suits and her customer service leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I have commissioned fursuits and own fursuits from other makers that I have been very happy with. Unfortunately, my experience with PyropeCostumes was not a positive one.
