[YES] Chroma the Maned Dragon Fullsuit by Thunderhowl Studios
General InformationGives some information about the item and the person writing the review.
HeadGives information about the head of the costume. If reviewing a set of ears, the answers would also go in this section.
The head fits me perfectly. When it was initially advertised on the Dealers Den, it was stated that it would fit anywhere from 21 – 24 inches, and when I provided my measurements, Skye adjusted the fit so it would fit me just right. The jaw moves perfectly when my mouth moves, and it’s not too loose or too tight. The inside of the head is not lined, but it doesn’t cause any difficulties with sweating since I have a small fan on the inside tucked in by the muzzle.
The ventilation is great, due to the moving jaw I can breathe perfectly. There are vents on the sides of the head so I can hear better, and also have more ventilation. The head is also very light, so it doesn’t get really warm too quickly.
The vision is fantastic! There’s barely a blind spot so that really helps when I’m walking around. I still have to turn my head to see when I want to look beside me, but that doesn’t bother me at all!
Everything seems to be in order with the character design. Since it was a premade item, Skye had already designed it beforehand. After looking at the design pictures after buying the suit, the markings and everything matched up perfectly.
The shaving is even all over and the transition between the fur colors and types/lengths is amazing, especially with the rainbow mane, the colors blend together perfectly.
The fur can be brushed very easily, and it feels softer than a teddy bear. The fur can also be smoothed easily as well.
The expression is absolutely adorable, and the way the eyelids are styled allows for many kinds of expressions so there’s always a variety. The eyes are follow-me, and depending on what angle someone’s looking at the suit it could have many different looks.
BodyGives information about the main body of the costume. If reviewing a separate set of pants/legs or torso, the answers would also go in this section.
The bodysuit is quite comfortable. Because it’s a standard-sized bodysuit it allows for lots of movement. Due to a difficulty with making my DTD I have a bit of a drop-crotch with the bodysuit, but it makes it much easier to move around in.
The seams are highly durable, I’ve ran around and rolled around in it and no seams have popped at all.
The inside of the body isn’t lined, and there’s still some lines in there from the bodysuit being sewn together, but it does not deter anything from the overall appearance.
The airflow is actually quite nice, I can stand in front of a fan and feel the air going through it easily which makes cooling down much easier and faster.
The symmetry of the body is great. The shaving is even and the transition between the different fur lengths is great. Especially with the tinsel mane on the shoulders and around the neck/chest area then transitioning into the multi-colored front and the white short fur then the rainbow mane continuing down the back.
As like with the head, the fur on the body is easily brushable, and majority of it is the soft teddy bear like fur. The tinsel fur is easily brushable and smoothable as well, and the rainbow mane down the back too. The multi-colored front is also very soft and can easily be brushed.
The colors used on the suit blend together perfectly and stand out in photos or in person, they also look really good in natural sunlight. The only downside though is majority of the fur is white, which makes cleaning the suit a little harder, but thankfully the suit can be easily cleaned.
What I love most about my bodysuit is that the tail can be attached by a zipper as opposed to having to wear a belt. It makes putting the suit on much easier since I can put both the tail and body on at once, and I can have myself in suit within 10 minutes or less since I don’t really require assistance with how easily it attaches.
Unfortunately, because of the drop crotch on my suit, the tail does hang a little lower than normal, but the advantage to that is, I can pick up my tail and carry it around, which makes for adorable photos!
Hands and FeetGives information about the hands and/or feet of the costume.
The hands and feet fit really well. Specifically the hands, they are a bit on the tighter side so they don’t slide off easily and my wrists don’t show if I stretch too much. I can easily put them on as well. In terms of the feet, they are made specifically to be interchangeable, which means they can be worn on either foot. I love that, because I don’t have to worry about if I’m accidentally putting a paw for a left foot on my right foot or not.
The quality for both the hands and feet are amazing, the seams are durable, they are soft, I can move easily, and nothing has fallen off of them. I also love how the paws, even though they are outdoor, have foam paw pads on them, to leave paw prints behind in the snow or water.
The feet are built without a shoe base, and it’s just all foam so they can be worn more comfortably. I feel like it’s like walking on a cloud. Sweat is absorbed pretty well, but I also find that both the hands and feet can dry pretty quickly too. Cleaning is a little more difficult because they are white, but I’ve managed to be able to clean them pretty well so far.
All colors and markings on the hands and feet are symmetrical and they match the character design perfectly. The paw pads on the hands are very unique because they both use different colors.
The shaving on the hands is very even, and the fur is amazingly soft. The claws are also made with either fleece or minky so they are nice and soft, and they can’t poke anybody.
The claws on the feet paws are harder, but they also tie the whole look of the feet together really nicely. They don’t seem to get scratched easily and they’re also pretty shiny.
TailsGives information about any tails the costume may have.
The tail is very light and bouncy. It moves quite easily, and it doesn’t feel like I’m being weighed down. The seams are durable, and nothing can easily fall off of it.
The seams are very durable, and there are actually 4 elastic bands on the tail to ensure that it doesn’t sag on a belt to keep it upright. The straps are also even and completely secure.
The tail is in a nice curved shape and even if I scrunch it up into a bin, it’ll always spring back to it’s regular shape.
I am very satisfied with how the tail looks, the rainbow mane looks great, and the fins at the bottom are adorable.
The fur is very even, as well with the short fur. The fur can easily be brushed and smoothed out.
As well as the other parts, the fur colors are very vibrant and stand out easily. They tie the character together perfectly.
As like with the bodysuit, the tail does have a zipper attached to it to go onto the bodysuit easily. The nice part is, when I’m wearing the tail in a partial, the zipper does not show easily and I can easily attach the tail to the bodysuit myself without requiring assistance.
OverallHow satisfied the reviewer is with the overall buying experience, including their interactions with the maker and the resulting final product.
Everything fits correctly, and when worn it looks correct. It does look a little baggy in some areas, but it doesn’t bother me one bit!
The suit definitely reflects Thunderhowl Studio’s style, and it looks like the other two maned dragons that were made previously.
The requirements for measurements and where to send the DTD, as well as DTD pointers were very easy to understand, and were very helpful.
Overall, working with Skye with Thunderhowl Studios has been great, and I recommend them to my friends and anyone who asks where I got my suit. I’ve already got a couple of friends who are saving up to get a couple suits!
I am already planning to get another suit from Skye in the future, maybe not right away, but definitely in a year or so.
Anyone who wants a high-quality and outstanding suit, definitely needs to go to Thunderhowl!
