HeadGives information about the head of the costume. If reviewing a set of ears, the answers would also go in this section.
The head is amazingly lightweight and feels really nice to wear. There is a blind spot in the middle, and I usually have to look out of one eye only, but this isn’t uncommon in a lot of fursuits.
I was absolutely blown away by how accurate Bass got his features! I am very happy with his head and the expression is mischevious which is spot on. The shaving is good, however, there is a small issue where the fur is a bit thin above an eyebrow and it shows the LED light through it. Nothing can be done about it, and it’s only noticeable in very dark environments. Bass apologised for this and offered to fix it.
NFT hair was used which had to be dyed, Bass got it as close as she could to the main fur colour and it blends in very well. The only thing was that the NFT stitching was visible on the back of the head, so this was blended in with an airbrush.
The moving jaw isn’t as sensitive as I hoped. I don’t think I was asked for head measurements, so the jaw tends to prop open than move. It moves on smaller heads, and I can sometimes just about make it work. This isn’t a biggie.
He also has two sets of tongues, a normal one, and his long tongue. These look great, however, I wish the velcro on the back was a bit more sturdy as I am worried about tearing it off. The velcro is just sewn down the middle. I have to be very gentle taking it out.
BodyGives information about the main body of the costume. If reviewing a separate set of pants/legs or torso, the answers would also go in this section.
The body is very comfortable and I seriously cannot fault it. It fits perfectly and I can move my arms freely, and it’s well sewn together. Airflow is good considering the digitigrade padding is all foam, and he feels very soft.
This is where I feel a bit bad because, in all honesty, I wasn’t 100% happy with the bodysuit.
Bass asked if I wanted the fur shaving down, which I said yes to, however, I wasn’t expecting it to be shaven down so shortly. I thought she meant she was going to shave it down just a tad to define the longer fur transitions. She asked if I wanted the arms shaving down too, to which I objected, as the paws were already made and had longer fur on them. I kind of wish the longer fur on his arms was blended in better with transitions. The rest of the body, however, is fine.
The digitigrade is all foam, and Bass admitted she forgot to line it when I picked the suit up. Some of the foam felt flimsy and I had to glue a lot of it together as it was very fragile. She did say she would line it for me, but she has since packed up her workshop. Perhaps in the future, but it’s honestly no big deal. I was a bit shocked at the flimsiness I must admit. Since I glued it, it has been fine and the shape is excellent.
Hands and FeetGives information about the hands and/or feet of the costume.
Paws were made by WhatsUpHotDog.
Feet look great, are comfortable to wear. They are designed like boots and are a little hard to put on so I need someone to help. They have velcro straps at the top that attach to the bodysuit legs.
Overall happy with them. The bottom of the feet will need replacing at some point as it’s more foam matting than rubber matting.
TailsGives information about any tails the costume may have.
Very fun to wear! Super lightweight and durable.
Has a foam core that is very durable.
OverallHow satisfied the reviewer is with the overall buying experience, including their interactions with the maker and the resulting final product.
He looks exactly like the character, and Bass did a fantastic job on him. She was regular with updates when she was working on him, and I am happy with the result.
I WOULD recommend Bass as a maker, however as I said, the customer service needs improving hence the OK status.
Again, I cannot stress that I understand she has a personal life and things will go wrong (such as the sewing machine breaking which caused delays). I felt like I was left in the dark at times, where her Twitter would go quiet and I didn’t know when my suit would be started or finished. She did have one deadline suit for Halloween which she completed, then said she would be starting on mine. It would be nice to see a Trello, or have some form of structure to go on, rather than feeling bothersome asking her for updates.
I was told Jax would have been started earlier that year, but I understand she had several suits in the queue before me. I was given a lot of ‘he will be started XXX date” ”he’s next in the queue” throughout the year which got frustrating when I didn’t receive anything. I expressed my concerns and she started him soon after, so I would have him by MFF. I know I am not the only one who felt these frustrations, and I just hope things will improve in the future. Bass is a fantastic maker and the fursuit was well worth all the waiting.
I didn’t give her the best reference sheet so some of the faults may be my fault (fur shaving etc), but overall I am satisfied.
TLDR; Satisfied, but customer service needs improving. The suit is well worth it.
