Relationship With Maker

The maker is NOT a friend

Prior Experience

This is my first fursuit, but I had done a lot of prior research and made my own base.

Informed Maker of Issues

Yes, I mentioned a few issues before it was done, but if I brought something up, the maker would apologize but make me feel like I was the one who should be apologizing. Eventually, it became difficult to bring up any issues I had with the partial.

Wear Time

2-3 hours since quarantine

HeadGives information about the head of the costume. If reviewing a set of ears, the answers would also go in this section.

Wear Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to wear with regard to comfort, fit, material quality, etc.

The head is uncomfortable. The base was purchased as a premade instead of being build from scratch. The head is very front heavy with no elastic or counter balance to keep it upright. The sight is okay but the ventilation could use some work, probably because the thick foam of the premade. I don’t really like the fabric on the inside of the head since it feels a bit sweaty. With the concept image I sent, the maker said that that picture alone would work. It’s a 3/4 picture that doesn’t show the very back of the head. She didn’t ask me about what I wanted the back of the head to look like.

Appearance Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to look at with regard to material quality, design, how closely it matches the concept, etc.

The appearance is okay. It wasn’t what I hoped it would look like. The teeth are sewn and glued down and look a little messy. The borders around the eyes are hot glued on instead of sewn on with some hot glue visible. I also don’t like the black band wrapped around the nose, since she didn’t ask me if I wanted that or not. The only thing I’m really upset about is the sewn lines around the mouth (The darker fur) is very messy and isn’t a clean line.

Hands and FeetGives information about the hands and/or feet of the costume.

Wear Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to wear with regard to comfort, fit, material quality, etc.

It’s a little difficult to put my hands in the paws without them getting caught since the material is a bit loose, other than that, they are pretty comfortable.

Appearance Satisfaction How satisfying this piece is to look at with regard to material quality, design, how closely it matches the concept, etc.

I like the appearance of the paws, only the maker forgot to add claws, and I really wanted them. I got a refund since I wasn’t able to ship them back because of COVID, and I didn’t want to wait a long time to get them back.

Product Satisfaction How satisfied the reviewer is with the overall look and feel of the costume in its entirety.

How was your concept art realized?

I wish the maker followed the concept art a bit more closely. There are a few changes to the designs that we added that I support for turning the character into a suit, but I would have liked her to be more specific with me when planning out the suit.

How well does everything fit together and match up?

I do really like most of the visual of the suit. I really like how cute the maker made it look, but the quality was a bit lacking for the price I paid.

Overall Project Quality

I’m not super happy with it, but it’s okay. I somewhat regret spending the money on this product due to the unprofessionalism and the time that it took to be made.

Purchase Process Details the interactions between the customer/reviewer and the maker of the item with regard to the buying process.

Initial Contact

I contacted her via Instagram. I wish there was an easier way to contact her, such as email or phone, but it was pretty easy to contact her.

Maker Response Time

She responded quite fast.

Maker Professionalism

The maker was not professional. I don’t think she takes criticism very well and I found it difficult to tell her no. It felt like she wanted my suit to look a certain way even though it was my character. I also feel like the maker favorites close friends instead of customers. I didn’t want to know about her personal life, only about business, but I heard about it anyway.

Project Completion Time

It took way too long for my liking. I wasn’t send updates or pictures and wasn’t communicated with unless it was in a group chat. I wasn’t given personal updates on MY suit, which I should have for the money I paid for it. I understand that there were people in line ahead of me, but I was not told where she was in the process or in the line. I was initially told that she hoped to start on it in February. I know quarantine hit, but I would think that wouldn’t harm progress since the maker would work on it from home.

Rating

FursuitReview scores by having the reviewer answer the following question:
"Would you recommend this maker to another?"

NO!
This review has been marked with a negative rating.
This means the reviewer would NOT recommend Spilt Grape Soda unless they significantly change their practices.

Final Comments

I’m pretty satisfied with the looks of the suit, even though it’s a bit uncomfortable to wear. The main thing is the huge lack of communication when planning and during the creation process. I had no idea where the maker was in the progress of the suit, and she even sent out pictures of my suit without asking permission of me first. If you want to commission this maker, I recommend you wait until she has sorted out her business and suit quality more. She is not very professional, so that is something you need to be aware of.

I had the chance to try on this fursuit before it was shipped as a quality test for the maker, I personally found it very comfortable and absolutely adorable! It fit the same comfortability as any other HQ suit with no back of the head foam padding.
