Overall

Initial ContactStupid easy. All I did was send a dm on instagram, and pay for a $3 quote on kofi. Kit was super responsive and excited when talking about a commission! Kit will post his openings on his story and feed, but will leave his slots in his bio as well. I paid through square as I use a credit card to purchase fursuits, and Kit was happy to send invoices when I was ready to pay. Any and all requests that Kit needed (head size, upgrades) was clearly mapped out for me to understand.

Maker CommunicationKit was incredibly friendly! Kit is extremely approachable and kind. He has never had any judgment when I had "stupid questions" and responded within a day at the longest. Kit was more than kind and was happy to hear my ideas, and never became frustrated if there was a miscommunication. Kit also was realistic with any "deadlines" that were mentioned, though no specific deadline was set (month/date; only a month was given). Kit also was professional, and I cannot pick out a time where a personal life event was mentioned on his side, but I myself mentioned a job change.

Project Completion TimeEXTREMELY. I am actually shocked with how fast (and still high quality!!) my suit was completed. Kit started working in January (late) and finished by late March. I was "last" in queue, but Kit works on one project at a time usually. My head was shipped promptly after I finished my payment plan, and tracking was provided!

Overall Project QualityOverall, this was a wonderful experience. Kit was on top of communication, constantly sending WIP's and asking questions to make sure I was satisfied. Kit worked consistently on Mercy and even completed him before his projected deadline. Kit was flexible with payments, as I lost my job during my payment plan, and Kit was kind enough to hold onto Mercy for me until I was ready to finalize my plan. Mercy is VERY high quality and for the price I paid- a STEAL. Mercy's expressions are happy and cheerful and even cute when sad. I wore Mercy for 3 official events, and he was so easy to suit in, probably the easiest suit I have owned! Kit blew me out of the water with the care and dedication he has put into Mercy; Mercy has only popped a seam in his front left tooth, which has since been fixed. He is so much fun to brush, looks adorable as a partial, and would most likely make the cutest full suit. Mercy fits perfectly and does not shift on my head. He is certainly one of the most fun characters to perform as due to his expressions, and his ears are too much fun. He is a rather large head, and cannot fit accessories like a standard-size froggy hat or fursuitglasses, but I don't mind: it doesn't knock down points for me. Mercy is very consistent and on-brand for Kit's style, but I do think my ideas challenged Kit to go beyond, which I am extremely proud of. Kit has been consistent with being on top of questions when I have them and also has a wonderful fursuit family in tow. Ultimately, if you are in the market for a budget-friendly, on the toonier side fursuit, I will always push you towards kitznest/flightlessbirdstudios. I cannot thank Kit enough for the wonderful commission experience.

Components

Head

Wear SatisfactionMercy is comfortable to wear for long periods of time! Mercy is pretty lightweight, has wonderful vision and ventilation, and is fully lined with what I believe is a cotton blend. My skin is sensitive, and usually, materials can bother my face, but with Mercy, I have not had any sort of burns from my skin being rubbed raw. I am asthmatic, and am very much able to breathe, and even dance in my suit for longer periods of time before needing my inhaler; the air also moves through Mercy's head quite nicely. I do have the ability to wear my glasses but don't due to glasses being expensive to replace (lol). I am able to completely turn my head without issue to use my peripheral vision and have a minimal, yet standard, blindspot. The eyelids do add some shade to my vision but that is standard and therefore not an issue. Mercy has withstood multiple conventions and all of his "upgrades" have also withstood convention use. Mercy has survived harsh weather conditions (downpour at Anthrocon) and transport for different events. Mercy is also very easy to brush and clean, which also makes him more enjoyable to wear more often.

Visual SatisfactionMercy is beautiful! All of his markings are symmetrical and even. There is one spot on his cheek fluff where the fur was cut shorter but is not noticeable unless you are brushing his fur or looking for it. Mercy has bright happy eyes that can fully have the follow me effect, a huge bonus, and has the perfect fluff to face ratio. His ears are large and fluffy, which I adore, and has also landed plenty of compliments. Mercy also has a small tuft of hair, consisting of 3 brushed wefts that flop with movements. Mercy has four tiny teeth, one is slightly crooked, which most would think is a bad thing, but matches my character entirely. Mercy has a tired and sad expression, which his eyelids (2 sets) convey perfectly. Mercy also has a long tongue for a 😛 emote, and a set of magnetic tears and blush, which are also adorable and stay on Mercy's face. The material ONLY looks crunchy if not brushed, these pictures have lost their quality from the transfer from my phone to my laptop, which does not do him justice. Mercy has also not experienced any severe shedding, meaning that all construction was conducted with serious amounts of love, and I have not had any bleeding from his washes. Mercy was translated exactly from his art to his fursuit head, and genuinely, I could not be happier.

Special FeaturesMercy has 2 pairs of eyelids, two velcro tongues (one with a magnet that attaches to the muzzle), and two sets of magnetic expressions; blush and tears. All the magnetic pieces stick to Mercy easily, it is a matter of making sure the magnets are connected (not an issue!). They are made of cardboard therefore not indestructible, but I am also gentle with my suit parts and pieces. Mercy's eyelids have velcro pieces glued onto the backs; these are easy to put on and take off. They have fallen off twice, but I have since glued on new and bigger pieces to the back, but this was also not necessary and a personal choice! These are not heavy and match my eyes on my suit perfectly. I adore the shapes of each piece, and even the tongues are fun! I also only need help if I am already wearing my suit, but would not take me long to figure out if I put on any of the eyelids or tears/blush myself. These were absolutely worth the extra money, and have gotten plenty of compliments at anthrocon!

Final CommentsI genuinely cannot stress how happy I am with my fursuit. Mercy was certainly a labor of love, and I see it every day. I love popping on my head to do chores and get excited to go to meets and cons to wear him. Mercy is exactly what I wanted when I went to Kit originally, and Kit did more than just deliver. If you are in the market for a suit in this style, please do consider commissioning flightlessbirdstudios. 🙂
