Fit: The head fits snugly on me. It is not too tight at all, and the snug fit ensures the head does not wiggle around on my head unintentionally. The head is fully lined with a sweat-wicking material that also makes it comfortable to wear without a balaclava if desired.
Ventilation: The muzzle contains a small fan powered by a battery pack located in a pouch on the back of the neck. The wires are all tucked away neatly inside the lining. The eyes are large which also allows ventilation. Lastly, the mouth (a moving jaw) is able to open wide which allows for quick access to more ventilation to cool down more quickly.
Vision: The vision in suit is wonderful. The eyes lining up with my own coupled with the fact they are large and toony allows me to have a very wide range of vision.
Symmetry: The symmetry on the head is near-perfect. There are a few spots that are slightly off from each other, but it is really only noticeable when looking at the head perfectly straight-on. From an angle or the side, these imperfections are not noticeable at all.
Shaving The shaving on the head is perfect and even across the whole face. The ears also match each other perfectly (they were shaven to a middle-length). The neck and cheeks were left purposefully fluffy. The parts shaved the most (the face) are left at a length that is short but still does not easily reveal the backing of the fabric.
Fur Quality The fur is incredibly soft to the touch and shaved down very well. The long fur does get ruffled easily, but it is easily managed by brushing it frequently.
Result vs Concept: The ending result of the head matches my reference/concept art wonderfully.
Moving Jaw: The lower jaw is a “floating jaw” which means it is not attached to the core of the head (the foam base). This detachment allows the jaw to move readily with the user’s own jaw. However, this also means this jaw is subject to be slightly crooked sometimes, but that is easily adjusted in suit. The detached jaw also allows the jaw to open incredibly wide, which is useful for a variety of situations.
Battery Powered Fan: The fan fits snugly within the top jaw just behind the nose and is secured well. The wires are tucked under the lining of the head (meaning it is not removable) and lead to a battery pack that is accessible in the back of the neck. The battery pack has its own pouch attached to the back of the neck that is also secured very well. To date, I’ve had no issues with the fan or the battery pack.
Magnetic Tongues: I received 2 tongues that attach to the head via magnets. One is a short, standard tongue that covers the length of the bottom jaw. The second is a long tongue that reached out of the mouth and can be attached to a magnet hidden on one side of the muzzle.
Magnetic Eyelids: I received 2 sets of eyelids, an “angry” and a “sleepy” set. Both attach to the head via magnets and are labeled (L) and (R). The magnets are strong and I’ve had no issues of them falling off while in use.
Magnetic EyeBrow Dots: The eyebrows on the suit’s head are magnetic and can be removed or set between 2 different positions. One position is them in a “happy/neutral” state, and the second is lower down near the eye for a more “angry” state.
Pick-able Nose: The nostrils of the nose are holes to the inside of the suit. It is very neatly done and seamlessly merges into the lining of the inner jaw. This hole also allows for better ventilation (and fun shoving things in it).
Fit: The body fits me wonderfully and allows for an excellent range of motion. The torso/stomach area was left slightly loose, but that is to allow room for an EZCoolDown vest to fit perfectly underneath.
Quality/Durability: I’ve worn the suit to 4 cons + a few local events. So far I have only had a few popped seams (in the corner of the mouth, one of the 3 belt loop attachments (from my tail being stepped on while I was walking away), and on the top of the left footpaw). All repairs were very easy to do on my own.
Interior: The seams are all very nicely finished with both a straight stitch and a zig-zag stitch to ensure maximum durability. The majority of the suit is un-lined, but the padding pillows in the legs are made with a sweat-wicking material. The pillows also have a zipper to allow the stuffing on the inside to be easily accessed for washing or adjusting.
Airflow: As I have no experience in other suits, I cannot say how this suit compares. However, to me, this suit feels how the average digitigrade suit would be. I can feel a nice breeze through the fur when I am walking around, but I will still get fairly hot after wearing it for some time.
Symmetry: The body is perfectly symmetrical as far as I can tell. It matches my reference sheet perfectly.
Shaving: The fur is all in even lengths. The belly fur is slightly shorter on purpose.
Fur Quality: The fur is dense and soft. The backing of the fabric does not show easily. While the fur does get easily roughed up (like any lux shag), it is easy to brush it back down again.
Colors: My character features colors that are harder to find, and I feel SpiritPanda did an amazing job finding furs that are as close to my suit as it could possibly be given the current fur market.
Result vs Concept: The end result matches my reference sheet perfectly!
Removable arms: The arms are able to be removed with a zipper. The arms themselves are attached to each other via an elastic band to keep them together when worn without the torso piece. The zipper seam and handle are easily hidden in the long and dense fur on the suit. The zippers are also laid out in a way so I can easily tell which arm attaches to which armhole on the torso.
Removable Legs: The legs work similarly to the arms. They can be removed (or attached) to the torso via a zipper that runs along the waist. The seam for this zipper is also hidden very well within the fur.
Digitigrade Padding: The digitigrade legs are very well made. The padding pillows are designed so the stuffing on the inside can easily be replaced, washed, or adjusted.
All these features fit well and are extremely durable. I’ve yet had no issues with any of them.
Hands: The paws were made to fit my hands perfectly with a scan I supplied to SpiritPanda. The puffy paw design makes it hard to utilize any sort of dexterity, but that is the case with any puffy paw design. The movement of the hands is excellent and it’s easy for me to take them on and off. I find they do not slip off my hands much unless I want them to. The paws are unlined on the interior, but they feature a finished edge on the cuffs. The padding pillows in each finger are also removable to make washing and drying easier. I’ve to date had no issues with the durability of the paws.
Feet: The feet are built around a shoe base attached to a very durable bottom made of very thick and dense foam and rubber material. The feet seamlessly transition from the foot to the leg in the digitigrade bodysuit. I’ve had no issues with any exposed leg nor with the feet falling off. The insides of the feet are lined with a fleece-like material that attaches to the shoe and contains a label for which foot is which (R and L). I’ve had no issues to date with the durability of these feet save for a single (and tiny) popped seam.
Hands: The hands are very well constructed and feature perfectly executed small details such as a dew claw and the skin at the base of each claw. There are no issues with symmetry and they look lovely. The paws are not shaved and the fur is dense and does not easily show the backing of the fabric. The claws and paw pads were made of vinyl.
Feet: The feetpaws are very well made and have no issues with symmetry. The shaving on the feetpaws is very well done and has no visible flaws.
I am highly satisfied with both the handpaws and feetpaws of this suit. They match my reference perfectly.
Removable Feet Bottoms: My feet specifically feature interchangeable bottoms. I have an outdoor bottom made with very durable material similar to what you would find on the bottom of a shoe. I also have an indoor set made of thick foam covered in fur and vinyl (for the pawpads). These attach and detach with very strong magnets encased in a container that allows the bottoms to fit perfectly into the base of the foot. There are absolutely no issues with the bottoms coming loose while suiting.
Fit: The tail has 3 nylon loops attached to a thick and sturdy base on the tail. My belt slides through these loops easily and holds the tail against me securely while suiting. The tail (a floor dragger) is stuffed very well and allows for a lot of movement while I am in suit. The tail fits through a hole in the bodysuit made to fit around the base of the tail perfectly.
Quality: Even though the tail is a floor dragger and usually more susceptible to damage, I have had only one incident where the tail needed repairs (specifically one of the 3 belt loops). I have had my tail stepped on several times and I am sometimes rather aggressive with how I move my tail around, yet there have been very minimal damages to it.
Symmetry: The tail appears perfectly symmetrical and flows into the patterning of my bodysuit wonderfully.
Fur Quality: The fur is very thick and dense. It does not easily show the backing of the fabric. The colors are also beautiful and match my character very well.
Result vs Concept: The ending result matches my reference perfectly.
Hidden Pocket: At the base of the tail, there is a small zipper leading to a hidden pocket. This is to store items in case of an emergency (i.e. wallet, room key, and phone). This is hidden extremely well and functions as desired. I’ve had no issues with it to date.
During the concepting process, SpiritPanda stuck true to my design and made little to no alterations. With each stage, she ensured I knew how it would look in the end and how it would function. I am extremely happy with the overall design of the suit.
The suit matches my reference near-perfectly despite the challenges it presented.
All parts of the suit fit me extremely well and made with very deliberate care. While this suit was one of SpiritPanda’s earlier works as a fulltime suit maker, it is extremely well made and has definite character.
She also has an easily accessible TOS that outlines the commission process very well. I knew exactly what was needed from me and what to expect from this commission process.
There was no specific completion date discussed, but the maker did communicate to me on average how long my suit would take to be completed.
Once the suit was complete, it was promptly mailed to me once I had paid for shipping. Once it was shipped (with USPS), I was provided the tracking number.
Would you recommend this maker?
This review has been marked with a positive rating.
This means the reviewer would recommend SpiritPanda Creature Cosplay and Costumes.
Overall, SpiritPanda is lovely to work with and not only does her best to ensure the product comes out to the client’s expectations, but she also goes above and beyond when ensuring the suit will last a very long time.
I would absolutely recommend SpiritPanda to anyone looking for a toony styled suit. I and many of her other clients adore not only SpiritPanda’s work, but also her personality. I went into this commission not knowing SpiritPanda on a personal level, but now I feel like I am part of a new family with her and her other clients.
