Overall

Initial ContactGetting a quote was very easy! I first submitted one as part of a raffle, which then expired, but I reached out again a few months later to get an updated quote for two different characters. I found the raffle (and thus the maker) on Twitter, but communicated primarily via Telegram or email. Responses were prompt and professional, and the quote was completed within 24 hours, if I recall.

After I'd decided which character to commission, I sent a down payment (the rest was paid in installments once Twisted began work on the project) and a document with a few details like colors, horn shape and placement, and examples of past Twisted heads that I wanted to emulate the style of. The rest of the process was self explanatory, but Twisted was always happy to answer questions I had along the way.

Maker CommunicationTwisted's reputation for good communication was one of the reasons I chose to commission them, and I was not disappointed. No matter who I was talking to or for what reason, I always felt like my messages were heard. The longest I ever waited for a response was probably a couple of days, but I'm a patient person and was not upset about this at all.

Whenever complications arose that necessitated a longer timeline for my suit, or others on the queue, Twisted replied to individual questions and also made update announcements in their Telegram channel. Explanations were succinct and free of guilt tripping, and work always resumed within what I'd say is an extremely reasonable time frame. Working with a fursuit maker with such a professional attitude has been a pleasure.

Project Completion TimeI was given an initial rough ETA of summer 2021, but with the understanding that Twisted does not typically have hard deadlines. This was not a problem, and even when my ETA was pushed back nearly a year, I never felt out of the loop. Twisted communicates primarily through their Telegram channel, which I was able to watch for updates and see that constant progress was being made on the queue. There was a Trello that is no longer being updated as far as I'm aware, but I was never concerned about my place on the queue or worried that rush fees, favortisim, or premades would take priority.

Once the project began, we re-established specific details that I wanted included, and those were accommodated very effectively. The time between project inception and completion was around two months, and it was shipped and delivered within a few days of being completed with no issues.

Overall Project QualityI'm absolutely satisfied with the end result. In fact, I'd say build quality is the top of the list for ways that Twisted excels, second only to customer service. We actually had a conversation specifically about the horns where I explained that I'm pretty rough with suits and would probably be picking him up by the horns, so they are both sewn and glued and probably one of the strongest connections I've seen on a head, ever. All the seams are similarly sturdy and I have every faith that this suit will last a decade. The ridges in his ears look and feel like they were fabricated by a fantasy movie costume department – flawless.

Cujo is instantly identifiable as a Twisted suit, although I'm biased and think he's one of the best.

My total cost was just over $1000, which was worth it and then some.

Head

Wear SatisfactionIt fits super well! My head is average size, around 23 inches, and I don't wear glasses. The fit is snug, nothing pinches, and it sits well without much adjustment, so the eyes and mouth are where they should be.

Vision is great given the depth of the eyes, which was intentional to make the black sclera and bright green irises more dramatic. The middle blind spot is minimal, as well as to the sides. The vision looking down is the biggest struggle.

The ventilation is also good! There is plenty of air flow in through the mouth and eyes, and the foam and spandex are very breathable. My only gripe is that the lining sits pretty low in the muzzle, while the cavity extends a bit higher up, so hot air on the exhale can get trapped there in the mouth lining fabric, but not if I'm in motion, which is most of the time.

Visual SatisfactionThis is such a visually striking suit head. Twisted did a fantastic job translating the character to life and was patient with my super-specific requests for things like the horn placement and muzzle shape. Front symmetry is great considering all bases are hand carved! The eyes are 3D but have a static expression. His reference picture has a neutral expression as well. All the markings are spot-on. We had some issues finding the exact colors that were on the ref, but I honestly like the end result better than what I originally wanted.

The shaving is incredible. It's one of my least favorite parts of suit making since it requires so much patience. Any fur that wasn't shaved was trimmed to blend well, and cheek fluff was left long as discussed.

All materials used are high quality, I believe most from Howl Fabrics, which made color matching different fur lengths a breeze. The fur under his ears and on his nose in particular are ridiculously soft.
