The maker is a friend of a friend I'd been following for a few years. For full transparency, the maker was already shown my ref and had indicated they wanted to make the suit before I submitted my commission request. I submitted a commission form when the maker opened and they reached out via email first followed. We switched to using Telegram once WIP photos were being sent. The instructions for making a DTD, taking measurements, and what items I needed to buy were crystal clear and easy to follow.
Another thing I wanted to highlight is how the maker took my special requests seriously and implemented them into the final product. They were professional and provided plenty of updates. I was always aware of changes in their schedule or delays. The maker was easy to talk to and honest. Response time was within 1 business day, usually within an hour or so.
Upon commissioning I was placed in the maker's queue on Trello. The ETA was shifted however this was explained clearly by the maker when it happened and for reasons outside their control. In fact, I was always aware of what the maker was working on as they kept communication up between DMs on Telegram and posts in their announcement channels. The project from start to finish was 7 months which is very very quick.
The maker exceeded my expectations in all aspects of the suit. The fursuit looks exactly as if Mutz was brought to life and I couldn't be happier! The fur color choices were spot on and matched the character reference. Every detail was translated to the suit and nothing was missed. In terms of build quality, despite the weight and size of both the thighs and tail, the suit holds together well. After about 40 hours of wear including 1 convention there were no busted seams caused by poor build quality. There has been damage needing minor repairs, but I feel those are my fault and not the maker's.
I have larger measurements in terms of size, including hands and body, and the maker not only accounted for those, but did so in a way that does not detract from the suit's appearance. Every part of the suit lines up nicely and the overall look is beautiful. Even friends and family outside of furry love seeing the suit, which says a lot.
Initially, the head was a smidge too tight however after wearing it more and breaking it in, the head fits perfectly on my head. The ventilation is as good as you can get in a foam fursuit head and the installed fan does help. Vision is also what you would expect. The bridge of the nose to snoot creates a blind spot in the center which requires you to sweep your head back and forth to see. It's nothing unexpected or what I would call dangerous. The magnetic eyelids are very cute but they definitely block 2/3 of vision, which is not great for moving longer distances.
I am very satisfied with how Mutz looks! The fur colors chosen look great together and match his ref so well. The shaving is even and is expertly done to help shape the head! The maker experimented with a stuffed neck lining to give a look of an extra poofy neck. It was a little too overstuffed however the maker fixed it for free and fast. The final result looks really cute!
Like the head, the body is as you would expect in terms of a fursuit bodysuit ventilation and heat. The legs are lined because of the digitigrade-padding pockets however from the waist up the suit is not padded. This, however, is not a problem for me since I wear sweat wicking clothing while suiting. Build quality is absolutely fantastic and the skill used in creating the suit is very apparent. The suit holds up to abuse very well, despite the heavily stuffed thighs and huge tail. All together, the suit holds together and can stand up to the abuse normal wear brings. I do not feel like I have to go out of my way to be careful in order to cause the suit to fall apart.
Also like the head the shaving and fur color choices are perfect! They match Mutz's ref so well and look AMAZING in person. The fur is easy to clean and brush and does not look matted or frizzy from lack of quality / damage. The maker matched the ref and patterns perfectly. Considering there are 11 unique colors, this was a huge feat!
This highlights one of the things I loved most working with this maker. My hands are too big for normal, one size fits all paws makers create. I requested they be larger and the maker delivered! They took my measurements and the paws fit perfectly! No problems with wearing them, even while my hands are sweaty. The hands are lined and did need to be broken in with use, but the maker had informed me of this so it's not a big deal. Like the bodysuit, the paws are very durable and able to take the abuse of wearing them around at a convention.
The handpaws are shaved very well and the markings on them match my ref sheet. As with the other items they are visually very appealing! The pawpads are sewn on and stuffed fleece. The claws are also sewed fabric and really compliment the look of the suit! Even when the handpaws aren't tucked under the bodysuit sleeve, they still look seamless and no skin / clothing shows through.
The tail is body pillow sized in length, size, and weight. Because of this, it is attached to the bodysuit via a zupper AND I need a kidney belt + regular belt to wear it. Another amazing idea that really adds to the overall satisfaction is the inclusion of a cover which hides the zipper and gives the tail a natural look. The durability of the tail is outstanding. Due to it's size it is heavy and needs to be moved around a lot. It takes these movements, including being picked up, very well. Also included for me was a nylon lanyard to hold the tail which. It is essentially a permanent loop to slip my paw through and with a D-ring at the top to clip onto a badge lanyard. The other part of the tail lanyard is a buckle loop I buckle around the tail and it makes it so I can pick up and carry my tail easily.
Visually, the tail matches the ref perfectly! I love how it looks especially since its scale matches the size of the fursuit.
The feet are built around a pair of open slippers I sent to the maker brand new, so they fit my feet nicely! They are attached to the bodysuit via a zipper that I will admit is frustrating to zip and unzip, however this is due to the pile length of the fur! Shaving that fur down would remove from the overall look, so it's an unavoidable issue. The paws are easy to walk in and I have walked a lot in them. They've held up just fine.
The added detail of the dew claw was a great idea and I absolutely think it takes the look of the footpaws to another level! The paws are outdoor meaning the bottoms do not have beans and instead is just a mat for walking on.
