Once chosen for the project, I was emailed by a member of the team with a breakout of the project cost. It was fairly itemized, and I was given a moment to approve before the project was started. I don't think it took longer than a week to get my quote.
The Alecrim team was extremely professional and pleasant to work with. Anytime I had a question I could email them and within a few hours I'd get a response.
Every Friday you get an email about what they are working on until you've received your suit. There was complete transparency and I never questioned what was going on with my suit.
Once I made my final payment I believe the project took a couple months from start to arrival. They made sure I had Qualude before the con I was attending with time to spare. Even with the quick turnaround the quality did not suffer!
I am extremely satisfied with the project as a whole. I would recommend Alecrim Carmim to anyone looking for a suit.I adore how they brought my character to life and his quality is perfect.
The head is in great condition! Beautifully crafted and relatively comfortable to wear.
There is plenty of space to see out of the eyes even with the eyelids attached. These heads honestly have the best visibility I've seen of any head I've tried on so far. The eyes are also iconic to the maker's style and easily recognizable. The blind spots are where you would expect: Directly in the middle, peripherals and below the head.
The only complaint I have is that I wish there was more cushion on the inside to hug your head. I was provided with extra foam padding and there is a chin strap inside the head to keep it in place, but it often gets flipped up when I put the head on. It only takes a minute or so to correct. Some sewn in cushion around the sides of the head would make it more comfortable in my opinion.
There is plenty of ventilation via eyes, mouth and vents by the ears. It still gets hot so I recommend getting a fursuit fan and wearing a balaclava. Detaching the neck also helped release a ton of heat (it velcro on).
I haven't cleaned it yet but Alecrim sends a cleaning guide as part of the suit's care, along with a brush. It seems to absorb sweat well but I recommend a balaclava to extend the suits life.
The amount of love and care that is put into the suits is easily noticeable. The shaving is even and clean all around, sewing is neat and discreet, and the faux fur is soft and plush. The brush they provide makes styling and fixing messy hair from use a breeze and doesn't really snag or pull the fur.
The expression is perfect for the character. The eyes are 3d (follow-me eyes) and are very lively and expressive as they are. The eyelids are designed for my character's signature sleepy-eyed look and work perfectly for him.
The maker did a great job translating the digital reference I provided into physical form. Their suits are extremely stylized but that is why I chose them for this project. I felt they would capture the silliness, whimsy and cuteness of my character and they did so perfectly. Only one marking was missing but they were a small one and it was my fault for not noticing. I have spoken to other Alecrim owners and the Alecrim team is more than happy to fix any design errors needed during production. I didn't notice the missing markings until well after delivery but they are not significant and even without them I would say I'm extremely satisfied with the work of the maker.
The hands are very comfortable and fit snuggly. Not too loose, not too tight. There is plenty of cushion inside and movement of fingers is pretty easy. The inside is very absorbent but doesn't feel disgusting when sweating in them. I chose more bubbly paw pads so picking things up with them is a bit difficult but that is the nature of the design (and they are still functional)
I have ripped the paws off my hands with my teeth and there hasn't been any damage or pulling of the threads. Generally I try to be more careful with the but so far they have help together very well.
The paws are very simple for my character's. Just white fur with brown fingers, no claws or claw beds, and pink beans. They are fairly symmetrical with only slight difference in the shaving, but this isn't noticeable unless you're looking at them. They end of the long fur before it reaches the fingers is a little choppy in areas but these were hand shaved and again not noticeable.
The colors are excellent and there is no bleeding even at the seams. The thread is not visible. The fur is the same quality as the head! Soft and plush. I think I've used them as a pillow once! Very comfortable material and padding.
They matched the ref I provided perfectly.
The tail is extremely comfortable to wear. The only time I had trouble with it was while on a packed escalator at FWA, but I pulled it to the side and it was fine.
I have definitely used my tail as a pillow and fallen asleep comfortably on it. Perfectly cushioned. Seams are invisible along the length of the tail, and trimming between colors is crisp and clean.
My biggest concern when wearing the tail was the loop. It is pretty thin but it hasn't broken yet! I've pulled it, swung it around in a wagging motion! And it is still holding strong. I don't know what they did but it's extremely durable.
Tail is symmetrical, shaving between colors as mentioned above is clean. The fur is very soft and looks beautiful when brushed. There is no bleeding between colors, no visible seams, and perfectly matches the reference I provided.
Tail is very bouncy and swings nicely. It is just a plush tails it moves as expected.
My suit has UV reactive paint for the nose, teeth and eyes. The paint they used was different in color from the ref, but I enjoyed the changes so much I kept them as part of the character.
So far there hasn't been any smudging or bleeding of paint to other parts of the suit, and the up reactive changes are very bold under blacklist. Qualude is a hit at raves!
This feature is built into the suits and not removable.
I was given a pair of wings, a collar, a pin on bow and some clip on accessories as gifts as part of my project (I did not pay extra for these, they were provided courtesy of the Alecrim team). I have not worn the wings yet, but the rest works lovely with the character. All arrived in great quality and are still great today. I did step on one of the bigger clips and it cracked but it did not break in half!
