The initial contact was easy. They were advertising their "black friday" head slots on instagram and I messaged them on facebook. They responded within 10 minutes.
Response time I felt was always good. They were kind (but not overbearingly so) and seemed interested in the project. I did not reach out to them often because I was happy to wait, but if they asked me questions they would reply to me very quickly. They were happy to change the fabric colors when I was not fully satisfied and made sure any of my concerns were addressed. During my wait, they would send periodic updates both with the project itself and changes happening on their end, as well as occasional holiday greetings. I was sent a plethora of photos of almost every step in the process. I found it to be a very good communication.
The original ETA was WELL surpassed. The original forecasted date was less than a year and the eventual completion date was 3 years from commissioning. The maker had (under their own admission) taken on more projects than could be done in the original time slot and it had to be pushed back a few times. During that time the studio gained additional manpower and projects began to get done much more quickly. My project was finished quite quickly once work had begun on it in earnest.
The shipping was quick and I had tracking on my package. It actually arrived much more quickly than I originally expected because it had to go through Mexico to the USA. I had it in about a week from being sent.
I am extremely satisfied with the head and tail. They far exceeded my expectations and they came out as close to perfect as I could imagine. FULL DISCLOSURE: I did not pay for the tail. The tail along with several other features (changeable tongues and a pickable nose) were free upgrades that the maker included because of my very long wait time. That said, the maker absolutely did not skimp on the care and attention to detail on these items even though they were free. Every visible seam on both pieces is clean, tidy, and strong and there are no holes or tears. The visual impact is exactly what I had in mind and the maker made sure they really got the essence of the character. This is by far my favorite fursuit head.
The head is quite comfortable though a bit heavy (understandable with my character's long ears) and fits well. It has enough room for if I'd worn glasses and doesn't sit too heard on any part of my face. The chin stop sits well. The ventilation was VERY good, it is the best out of all of my suits. The vision is also pretty good, very reasonable. The inside of the eye mesh is nt painted but I don't find it to have much impact on visibility. The lining material is soft and absorbs sweat but an easy to clean material. The inside is fully lined and not scratchy. The seams seem strong and there are no holes or loose parts. Everything seems extremely sturdy. The velcro is well attached for the tongue and a tug shows that there is no give in the materials.
The head is everything I could have hoped for visually. She looks incredible and very accurate to her design on the reference.
The maker worked with me to decide how to translate markings and colors. When I was not fully satisfied with the selection of furs the maker went back and found options I liked better. Initially, we have decided to cut down on the number of spots and stripes that they were going to do because I wasn't paying very much for the suit and I agreed that the original design was too complicated for the price being asked. The maker DID surprise me by deciding to do the full amount of stripes anyway. The markings and pieces are perfectly symmetrical.
The fur is good quality and the shaving is mostly even. There is one small spot I've noticed where the clippers got a little close but it doesn't detract from the overall appearance of the head. Any visible seams are tidy and the sewing is good quality.
The style is EXACTLY what I wanted and was hoping more and then some. I will say I waited a very long time for the head and during the span of time their ability and style improved. The expression looks perfect and I just can't get enough of how cute she is.
It fits well and gets great swishy movement. The shape is bouncy and the construction is sturdy. It is well-stuffed and I can see the tail maintaining a nice appearance even after the stuffing begins to settle. The straps are taught and very secure.
The markings are perfect and very symmetrical. The fur is again good quality and seams are tidy. The backing with the straps is not visible during wear but is still neat and tidy.
