Overall

Initial ContactI got a response within minutes of reaching out for a quote. They were quick to work with me to get the ball rolling.

Maker CommunicationAfter I made payments, communication changed. I had to resend information a couple of times and things still got missed. After paying in full, but before my fursuit was even started, I asked about upgrading to LED eyes. They agreed and took the payment. They said they would need to upgrade my contract but would get to it later saying they had a headache. I followed up two weeks later to see if I would need to re-sign the contract to confirm the LEDs.

I had reached out asking if they had a trello I could follow along and they said that due to people commissioning gifts and surprises for friends, they could not use Trello. They kept everything hidden to keep those gifts a surprise.

I was completely in the dark and had to reach out for updates. Their facebook messenger is access by a couple of people. The maker's mother is the one who did most of the communicating, but the maker herself and another employee would also send messages. It made a mess of things and caused messages to be missed.

Project Completion TimeI knew there was a queue, but I had NO idea how long it was or where I stood.

When I initially contacted them in November of 2015, they told me the wait time was 6- 8 months. I followed up in July of 2016 (8 months later) to request an update. They told me all suits were delayed by another 2 – 3 months because of construction on the maker's house. I followed up in August to see if there was a chance of her being finish at the end of October. They predicted October or November, she would be completed.

I followed up in mid October and I was told I was in the next batch of fursuits to be made. A month later, they announced that there was a mix up and some fursuits were made out of order. I reached out to see if I was one of the suits affected by this which they confirmed I was (rather than them reaching out to me to let me know).

Mid March, 2017, I was given my first update and the suit shipped 2 months later. Once they started, suit work moved quickly.

Overall Project QualityInitially, I was really happy with my suit. But I think it was just because I had waited so long to get my suit and I finally had it. The more I wear it, the more frustrated I become with the weight of the suit (particularly the legs and feet).

I can only walk with her for short periods of time before I need to stop and rest for a moment. I've had other padded suits in the past and have had no issues wearing the suits for extended periods of time.

The markings all line up well except for the neck. Because of how tight it is, the markings are off. I've countered this by wearing a bandana with my suit.

Components

Head

Wear SatisfactionThe main part of the head where my face sits fits really well and the ventilation is fine. I was surprised at how good the vision is in the suit.

However, the neck is too tight. I've had to make adjustments to it in order to get it to fit without choking me.
There is no lining in the head, but they did include a balaclava for me to wear.

Visual SatisfactionThe head is VERY clean. There is no exposed glue the shaving is even and clean without exposing the fur backing. However, the head seems very small compared to the rest of my body and it looks disproportionate at times.

I reached out to them to upgrade to LED eyes, however these we not added to the suit.

One-Piece Body

Wear SatisfactionFor the most part, the body fits well. Nothing is too tight and I'm able to get the body on easily. The body is unlined, which I completely expected and have no problems with.

When they looked at my duct tape dummy, they told me my arms were too short and I probably didn't tape down to my wrists (which I did). They added on a few inches to the sleeves which made them too long.

The padding is a killer. Rather than using cotton or some light fabric, the padding is made from fleece which makes the suit heavier on my legs and also heats up the suit quickly.

Visual SatisfactionThe markings are symmetrical and everything looks good. The leg shape is exactly what I wanted when I was browsing for a maker. The zipper is hidden well and the fur is super soft.

Hands

Wear SatisfactionThe hands fit comfortably without being too tight or too loose. The movement with them is good and nothing shows if I'm stretching. The pads are silicone and are firmly attached to the paw pads. Several years later, they're still holding on strong.

Visual SatisfactionThe shaving and material used for the fur are good. The hands look clean and soft and match up to the rest of the body well.

Tail

Wear SatisfactionThe tail is comfortable and easy to put on, despite the fact that the loop is just one long tube of fur. The seams have been durable and have held on well over the years.

Visual SatisfactionThe tail doesn't appear lopsided and matches the ref. It sits pretty well with my body and looks good with the rest of the suit.

Feet

Wear SatisfactionThe feet are my biggest complaint of the whole suit. They are big and heavy. The bottoms are rubber and are super durable which is great, but they're so heavy that they've detached from the shoes and the fur. The legs are heavy enough with the padding, but the feet make it even more difficult to walk around for long periods of time.

I've had to reattach the soles a couple of times already and I plan on replacing them with a different material.

Visual SatisfactionThe feet are super wide and look weird with the rest of the body when looking straight on.

Until now, the seams have been well hidden, but they really stand out on the feet.

RatingFursuitReview rates by asking the question:
Would you recommend this maker?

NO This review has been marked with a negative rating.
This means the reviewer would NOT recommend Fur The Win Studios unless they significantly change their practices.

Final CommentsWhile my suit has some flaws, I do still love her. They have some building methods to fix up, but more importantly their communication needs to change. Having a public trello would be the first step.

The communication alone is the reason I would not recommend them. Several deadlines were passed, things got missed, and I was left in the dark.
