DMed Ruckus early 2022 about being interested in a fursuit commission, started getting the ball rolling on it in June 2022, and then communication started to dip off. Maker CommunicationAt first, communication was fluid, Ruckus was super accessible with answering questions, and we worked together on finding the right fabrics for this commission. As work was being done on the head, Ruckus was claiming other work was being done on Reggie’s tail, but it was never shared with me other than some concept sketches. I had to reach out numerous times for updates and photos, especially after the first two deadlines were missed. Ruckus explained to me that was because he no longer had wi-fi at his house, but posted on his social media pages, often ignoring my messages. I don't know if this is an issue he has with other clients too. There was just a lot of miscommunication on Ruckus' side, and I could not get a straight answer from him about basic things about the progress of my suit. Project Completion TimeOur first deadline was December 2022- giving him 6 months to make the head, arm sleeves, tail and hand paws. He agreed to it. Around October 2022, Ruckus reached out, claiming he would not be able to make that deadline, so we extended it to March 2023. He did not have any other fursuit commissions in his queue. As March approached, Ruckus could no longer make that deadline so we pushed it to a *hard* deadline of Anthrocon 2023, where he would personally give it to me. The suit commissions was also downgraded from a 3/4th partial to a mini partial; head, arm sleeves and hand paws. We shared a room at Anthrocon when it became clear that the only way I would receive my commission on time was if he stayed in my room. I would only receive 2 out of the 3 items I paid for, and he has told me he has extra fabric and would ship it to me after the con but still has not done so. Overall Project QualityI love the parts that I received! Really, despite all the communication issues and turmoil with missing deadlines, the parts that I did get are high quality- impressive for an early fursuit maker. At the end of the day, I paid just short of $1,000 for a toony fursuit head and arm sleeves; a steal for the quality of products. Everything is cohesive, matches up to the reference sheets I gave him, and the fabrics are the perfect lengths and colors. Reggie’s build matches up to the quality of Ruckus' personally made fursuit head, which I was able to see close up at Anthrocon. I'm certain Ruckus will get better with more suits and experience going forward! Components Head Wear SatisfactionVision: 7/10, there's some big blind spots especially to the sides of the face and I accident bumped into a couple of folks at the Anthrocon fursuit parade because of it (sorry!) Ventilation: 9/10! I always have a handheld fan when I'm fursuiting so fortunately that really comes in hand, but the inside of the head is so roomy that I don't feel claustrophobic at all. And the mouth is so big, I never felt like I was gasping for air. Weight: Honestly not as bad as I thought- 8/10. His muzzle/nose is top heavy, which may cause some long term issues, but nothing to worry about for a while. He's a *very* toony suit with some bigger features than most suits, but the maker made certain it wouldn't cause any glaring weight issues. Lining: 10/10. Ruckus put in a sweat-wicking fabric for the lining, and it's literally cool to the touch. Visual SatisfactionRuckus' portfolio with suits up to this point was limited, but extremely toony which is what I really wanted for my commission. And honestly, the head looks *exactly* how I've imagined my fursona in 3-D! Ruckus did an amazing job translating my reference sheets into his style. The head came with two magnetic tongues, of varying sizes, and a visible magnet on one side of the muzzle to make it appear like he's licking his lips. I will note two things, I would've loved to have magnetic eye brows and eye lids, perhaps for a 2.0 version; and the head I received at Anthrocon had whiskers glued into the foam. I tried to be as gentle as possible with them throughout the weekend, but they broke off. When I got home, I carefully removed the leftover ones, and sewed on his triangle markings on his muzzle, which wasn't added by Ruckus. Upper Body Wear SatisfactionI also commissioned Ruckus for arm sleeves and hand paws- I only received the arm sleeves. There's not a whole lot to say about them, they're comfy and wearable for outings, and lined in the same sweat-wick fabric as the head which is fantastic. Visual SatisfactionHis arms are super simple, and I adore the thick fabric we went with for his arms- it's so SOFT AND FLUFFY! X3 the best for hugs. Special FeaturesTwo removable tongues, a smaller one and a bigger one that had a magnet that stuck to a matching one on his muzzle. Final CommentsI very briefly put up a beware on Ruckus on my Instagram, due to the avoidance and miscommunication that I got from him over the past year regarding this commission. I adore what I've received- but I feel like I was taken advantage of and put myself in danger allowing a (online) stranger to stay in my hotel room at Anthrocon because it genuinely felt like that was the only way I would receive whatever pieces were finished by him. This commission might have been too much for Ruckus to handle, but that could've been communicated to me in a more concise and clear manner. Reggie is also not a wildly complex character, I would say he's less complex than Ruckus' own fursuit, so it shouldn't have taken as long as it did to create and receive the head and arm sleeves. This commission was also briefly worked on by Ruckus' now-ex boyfriend, who had reached out to me after I started posting stories about this commission. He is not a good person, for a number of reasons I won't go into detail here, but made me feel like destroying/selling this commission because of his accusations towards Ruckus. This has since been cleared up between me and Ruckus but should have been discussed earlier in the commission to avoid confusion or distrust. I would say that communication was- and still is- the biggest thing Ruckus has to work on. The quality in the fursuit is there; I'm sure he would’ve been able to make me a great tail and hand paws; but I cannot personally recommend commissioning him for a fursuit until he's able to communicate more fluidly with clients and commit to working on the fursuits, and send them out by the deadlines set.
