I saw this premade while it was still in progress through an Instagram post, and fell in love with it. The maker actually contacted me through DMs as I had expressed interest and asked about shipping to the UK (as previous premades had been US only) in the comments of one of the posts. A previous buyer had wanted to preclaim him, and they didn't want to sell him from under me, so a private auction on The Dealer's Den was set up, and I won the auction as they had been unable to make an offer due to an emergency (the auction was made public in the final few hours because of this).
The communication was absolutely excellent. It was all conducted through Instagram DMs. Responses were very quick except for when timezones meant they were asleep. They were friendly and informal but all communication was very clear. There were multiple complications in the process of buying the suit- it was their first time hosting an auction, one of the bidders dropped out, and then there were issues with prices changing for USPS. However, none of this was their fault and although they apologised for seeming unprofessional I felt it was handled as well as possible. I felt very well cared for.
As it was a premade, the only thing I had to wait for was shipping. It took 3 days from payment for the suit to be packed, shipping organised 3and the package handed off to USPS. Tracking was provided. Shipping was delayed slightly due to the snowstorm, it took a week to get to the international distribution centre. It entered the UK 3 days later and cleared customs extremely quickly (within a couple of hours) the same day (due to excellent documentation on the maker's part!). It arrived the next day. Overall it was 5 days later than expected but this is because the USPS guarantee was removed due to the weather.
I am so happy with this suit. As my first suit, I had big dreams and I have not been disappointed with the reality of owning a suit. He is SO cute, soft, sturdy and comfortable, and I am looking forward to many years of use. The design looks great in every combination of ears/tail.
The head fits me like a glove even with my glasses. I have even been able to put it on over the top of over ear headphones, although it is obviously very snug when I try that! It is overall a comfortably snug fit. It requires a slight tug to put on, and does not shift around at all when wearing regardless of how I move. The sides of the cheeks touch my cheeks, but there is no pressure.
The lining is smooth, high quality neoprene with no exposed seams, very pleasant to wear even without a balaclava as it is perfectly smooth.
The ventilation is relatively good through the beak as it is open and can be opened further if needed, but there is little circulation due to the snug fit. I have not gotten out of breath even with a balaclava covering my mouth during exercise like dancing, but it does trap warm air.
Vision is OK, there is a medium blind spot that mostly affects trying to look at things like phone screens where I have to turn my head, but at longer distances it vanishes as vision can overlap there. The mesh makes things dim and slightly blurry but I am able to navigate and read just fine. No peripheral vision.
Very symmetrical!
Pretty even shaving, slightly bumpy but creates an appealing texture- not an issue. No balding, transitions nicely into the longer fur on the cheeks and head/neck.
Super soft and high quality fur, very easily brushes/smooths out.
Absolutely adorable design and expression, looking up and down changes how 'smily' he looks, and has velcro eyelids to further change the vibe, but I love the default face. Follow me eyes with excellent painting to make a more 3D/dynamic lighting effect.
Designed fully by the maker so the character art matches the suit 100%.
The lynx tail is more comfortable to wear as it is smaller and lighter. Fits well, but requires some shuffling to get it to sit right when wearing clothing over the top of the belt. Can sit down with it on.
The bird tail is bigger, not heavy but puts a little more tension on the belt. Easier to get positioned as the shape naturally sits flush to my back. Can't sit while wearing it (except flat surfaces).
Both seem durable and well constructed, no damage even with a lot of tugging and shaking.
The padding in the bird tail creates a great feather effect but means there is a definite top and bottom- one side is flatter.
The lynx tail has slightly asymmetrical shaped spots, but this is not noticeable. The feather padding is slightly uneven in the bird tail.
The shaving on the lynx tail highlights the markings very nicely and is very smooth. No shaving used on the bird tail.
Soft and high quality fur/minky used for both. The minky used in the bird tail is cooler toned than the fur, which is not in the character design and is noticeable under certain lighting- doesn't look bad, just might be noticed.
The lynx tail doesn't really move a lot as it's a nub tail, but can bob up and down with some bouncing.
The bird tail wags side to side more than I expected- which I love!
The ears on the head are detachable- there are two velcro 'fluff' strips on the head for them to attach, and the base of the ears is 'hook' velcro. This allows the suit to be a regular bird or a hybrid!
The ears can fall off if they aren't perfectly lined up with the velcro and the head is shaken a lot. In normal wear they don't fall off easily even if they are put on slightly wrong. The ears wiggle slightly when moving the head- I like this effect.
It can be a little fiddly to move the fur out of the way of the head velcro to get them to stick, and I can't get a full firm attachment while wearing the head, I have to remove it/get help. I can quickly stick them back on if firm attachment isn't needed.
I have a slight concern that fur will be pulled out from around the ears by the velcro if it repeatedly gets stuck in them so I am careful to keep the fur out of the way.
The velcro strips are mostly coverable by smoothing fur over them and they blend in as the velcro is white, but it could be noticed when the ears are off. When the ears are on, they look pretty seamless, especially by smoothing the fur over the base of the ears.
I find the utility/novelty of having 2 different suit 'versions' and being able to surprise people by removing the ears to be worth the very minor hassle of attaching them.
