Overall

Initial ContactI've been following Hyde on social media for some time and when they opened commissions I've got a quote via their official google doc. After getting said quote and being chosen for the queue communication happened through e-mails.

Maker CommunicationHyde has show a lot of WIPs through the duration of the project. I never had to wait long for replies and Hyde was very open about everything, even offering advise when I was unsure about certain things.

Project Completion TimeThere was no official deadline but since my character was the first project of their 2024/25 queue it was safe to assume my suit would be finished in 2024 – which it was. There were some WIPs about the foam head being made early in the year but it officially started in april and was finished in may. I received my suit at the start of june 2024.

Overall Project QualityOverall I'm very happy with the suit I've received! I was right to assume my character would look good in their style and I'm truly in love with the suit. It has given me so many fun memories and connections which were worth every cent I've spent on the suit. I really had fun doing small things for it myself (for example making some sandals). I love how open and friendly people act around me when I wear her, others love her too and it's such a nice feeling to be silly and have fun as a dragon.

Everythign fits and just looks great! Easy to clean, comfortable to wear. The small issues I mentioned aren't that bad in comparison to the overall quality and love I have for this suit.

Components

Head

Wear SatisfactionThe head is made from expandable foam and was molded with a wickerbeast based form. Despite the difference in species the shape was pretty close to what I wanted, including small modifications. Because of that it's not too heavy and doesn't strain my neck when wearing it for longer periods of time.

Inside the head are three adjustable straps, hence it's easy to fit most heads comfortably. The back of the head has a hidden zipper which I believe helps to wear it more snugly and helps to prevent the head from moving on its own. I have no issues adjusting the straps and making the head fit comfortably.

Since the head is made of foam it gets warm quite easily. The only ventilations are the eyes and slightly open maw. However, the upper jaw is hollow and features a fan I commissioned to be included. Thanks to the partially open jaw it creates a light airflow that helps me to stay cool. The snout also features a pickable nose.

The inside of the head is fully lined with a comfortable material. Included in the commission was one removable tongue based on the reference sheet I provided. I've also ordered a small neck pouch which has enough space for a powerbank to power the fan.

Perhaps it's because of my character's blank, white eyes but the vision is excellent, truly the best part of the head! I have a small blind spot in the front but it barely bothers me, I can almsot always spot objects and people in time before bumping into them. Vision wise I'd feel comfortable enough to walk around without a handler.

I've also commissioned angry eyelids which can be attached with velcro around the eyes.

Visual SatisfactionI really love how she came out! While the way I draw her has a more angular style, a more rounded approach by Hyde does suit her as well.

During the process I asked for more or bigger teeth, though Hyde advised me not to and explained it could interfere with the airflow. I trusted their advise and I'm glad I did; the head doesn't suffer visually from it and I'm happy for all the air I get to breathe.

I love how the curled horns came out, they're really an eye catcher and don't take up much extra space when I store her into her closet or a bag to take with me.

Her fur is very soft and comfortable and the short parts that have been shaven are smooth and feel nice to pet.

The facial area has small spots where the trimming was a bit much and you can see the mesh underneath, but it's not very noticable unless you're up close. Otherwise the shaving is great! Very smooth and no asymmetry when it borders to the long fur.

Overall I'm very happy with what I've received, and if I were to commission again I'd just ask for magnetic eyelids as I'm always scared I lsoe mine at an event.

One-Piece Body

Wear SatisfactionThe bodysuit is very comfortable to wear. It has a hidden zipper on the front so I can easily put it on by myself. The wings are sewn on and the tail is worn with a belt.

There is no lining on the inside so it's very breathable and doesn't restrict movement much. Of course it still gets hot so to protect the backing of the fur I always wear recommended underarmor to keep it from soaking in sweat and prevent a bad smell. It fits nicely and is snug but I'm still able to move well with it.

Since this was my first every bodysuit I wanted the wings to be small in comparison to what they'd actually look like (I already made them small on the reference sheet so I have no comparison). They seem to be filled with foam a similar shaped foam plate and are very light and movable which is just what I wanted. Their placement allows me to still wear backpacks if they're not too heavy although I prefer other types of bags in suit anyway.

Hand and feetpaws are not attached and the transition is hidden well with long fur.

The body can also be cleaned in a washing machine if you follow the cleaning guide that was delivered with the rest. Other body parts can be washed via hand or a carpet cleaner. I use all three methods and a desinfectant to make sure the suit is as clean as possible and all these methods are easy to do.

NOTE: The material used for the leg padding and inside of hand-and feetpaws turned out to not be as durable as Hyde thought. They've stated this themselves and offered repairs, luckily my sewing skills are good enough to fix small things myself. I want to mention that Hyde has since changed to a different material, hence why I don't blame them for the small rips that did appear in my suit after some time of wearing it.

Padding for the legs is done through sewn on pockets filled with wool. The openings of the pockets are a bit small so after removing and refilling them both ripped a bit due to the fabric (See explanation above). Unfortunately this has also happened while putting on the feetpaws, fixing the inside was a bit difficult but managable. I won't mention it in the feetpaw section again however.

Visual SatisfactionI absolutely love the bodysuit. The markings are symmetrical and follow the reference sheet, front zipper is not visible at all.

My favourite detail are the belly plates which were achieved by shaving lines in the area to make them appear like seperate parts. The transition between different bodyparts flows smoothly and especially good between legs and feetpaws.

Fur looks incredible nice and is very soft. Areas that are subjected to a lot of sweat might be matting a bit, but with careful washing and brushing can be fixed again. The fur also brushes very easily, even when wet after washing.

Thanks to the stuffing the bodysuit looks quite thick but isn't as heavy as it looks. Hyde chose the fur and I had two adjustments and I think we did a good job selecting the right colors as it works well together and looks amazing.

Hands

Wear SatisfactionThe handpaws have four fingers, are based on a wolf/canine pattern and have stuffing as well as lining inside. The white claws are made with a soft fabric and sewn on.

I do have to say that the paws are a bit too big for me, hence grabbing things can be a bit difficult. Despite that they're comfortable and stay on without slipping off. Since the fingers are a bit puffy I do have some trouble putting on the second one when no help is around, otherwise I'm quite happy with how they feel.

Visual SatisfactionI'm happy with their appearance. They're symmetric and got nice shaving to them. Just like the bodysuit the fur is soft and looks really nice.

Despite being a dragon we went with a canine based pattern – minus the pawpads. I do like this look as it gives my character a more feral demeanor rather than humanoid with finger based paws.

Tail

Wear SatisfactionThe tail is big and chunky but doesn't reach the floor yet. It has a small zipper and it filled with wool. The base is made from a different, stronger material than wool (Though I don't know what) which helps holding the belt.

In order to make the transition between body and tail look smoothly, the hole in the bodysuit has straps with fur that go around the base of the tail. However I do have to strap the belt rather tightly for it to stay upright, which can be a bit restricting to my movements. But after 10 minutes I dont notice it as much anymore.

The tail isn't as heavy as it seems. I do like the lenght but it does pick up some debris when walking outside. Easy to swing around which is quite fun!

Visual SatisfactionThe tail looks nice and is symmetrical, just as in the provideed ref sheet. It has a good lenght and, just like the rest of the suit, feels soft and smooth.

Feet

Wear SatisfactionThe feetpaws have three toes, the middle one bigger than the others. They're stuffed and lined on the inside. The white claws are made with a soft fabric and sewn on.

They're incredible comfortable to wear. Frankly there are no shoes or slippers inside, but the thick stuffing is enough to hold the feet comfortably in place without too much pressure. It was a bit odd at first but once I got used to it I really loved wearing them. When it's cold I even use them as slippers for my flat.

Due to the lack of shoes they're one size fits all. The bottoms are made for wearing the paws outdoors and have been very durable so far.

Visual SatisfactionThey fit the bodysuit perfectly and have a smooth transition thanks to the long fur. Now since these are outdoor feetpaws and the claws are white they are guaranteed to become dirty, but thanks to Hyde's washing guide I can easily clean them with a brush and fitting detergent so they'll keep their white coloration.

Special FeaturesThe following special features have been mentioned already:

-Wings
-Eyelids
-Headfan
-Neck pouch

I'm very happy with all of them, but as said I'd commission magnetic eyelids in the future
