Contacting the maker was very easy. I first found the maker via seeing their work on Twitter, and reached out to them via their website, where the initial conversation was held. While they were not open for commissions when I initially spoke with them, they provided me with an estimate of when they would be open, and also provided a quote and list of measurements required.
Following the initial conversation, we switched to talking via Telegram. The maker was extremely responsive to questions and provided help and explanations at every step. They were very friendly, patient and professional to work with. They provided pictures as examples and were happy to discuss changes and requirements. I have kept in communication with the maker following this commission and they remain very professional and friendly.
I had no concerns with communication or response times.
Start to finish the head and tail were completed within a few months. During this time I was provided with updates and images. They contacted me to discuss changes and various routes to take with the creation of the head during this time.
Overall I am extremely satisfied with the end result! The maker did a fantastic job in both capturing the character and building the head and tail. The quality of the work is very good, with no obvious causes for concern, and the commissioning process was excellent. Light is absolutely worth the price paid.
I am very satisfied with the fit of the head. Prior to the maker starting work I was asked to give several detailed measurements of my head and face to ensure a good fit, these were followed extremely well and match my head very well. The inside of the head is lined, and includes an internal mesh, none of the solid 3D printed base is in contact with my head directly. There are soft foam pieces at touch points for cushioning.
The head is a mask style, which uses a zip at the back to fasten, overall this works well and is very well fitted. Due to the character design good care does need to be taken to not get any of the mane hair trapped in the zipper, but this has not been an issue or caused a problem. I am able to put on and remove the head easily without any assistance.
Due to the nature of the solid base, it can be fairly hot, however to combat this a fan was included in the nose with an external battery pack. This fan moves a lot of air and makes the head comfortable to wear for many hours at a time. In addition to the nose ventilation, the jaw is also movable (operated by moving my chin) which when open allows lots of fresh air to enter and helps greatly with reducing sweat build-up! After many (10+) hours of wear the power connector for the fan did break with a wire coming loose, however I was able to patch this up during a convention and subsequently repair this extremely easily – access to the wiring and fan inside was no issue. Overall I am extremely satisfied with the ventilation.
Vision is excellent, the large mesh eyes provide very good forward visibility, with only direct sides and objects behind me being beyond sight. There is a very slim forward blind spot at the very front, but this is well minimised by the eye design. Honestly couldn't have asked for better visibility. I have been able to navigate convention spaces, outdoors, small corridors and flights of stairs effortlessly.
The maker captured my character extremely well, the reference was followed and the end result was a great blend of their signature style with the unique characteristics of my character. Prior to the purchase we had detailed conversations on colours and styles for the mane, eyes, and facial features. Lots of examples and suggestions were given and they were very flexible and helpful in selecting the designs to go with.
The head is covered with minky fur, which is very soft to the touch. The covering is even and well adhered, I'm very happy with it! Many boops have been given to the nose without any damage. The minky fur is easy enough to spot clean, I maintain it the same way as a plush made of similar material, it is not showing any notable signs of wear.
The mane design of my character is quite complex, including a bun and accessories such as a bow and needles, the maker did a great job making this design a reality. The bun is a separate piece attached to the mane at the rear of the head and is very 'bouncy' when running around, which I find very cute. The front of the mane is longer on one side as per the character and is easy to brush, style and maintain. Special care does need to be taken with the bun, as it cannot be brushed, I manually adjust and tidy this by hand. I am very impressed how well they brought this mane design to a fursuit, although it does take careful handling and maintenance, the look is absolutely worth it! The accessories were also included.
The jaw is movable, and can be operated using my chin. This leads to some great expressions and poses, and also works great for cycling fresh air into the head. It's fairly easy to hear others and to hold a conversation to someone close by.
Seeing Light in the mirror when wearing her is an absolute dream come true for me, I absolutely love wearing her and she has received many compliments from others!
I purchased an optional tail alongside the head, which is two-tone dark-purpley-blue and bright orange as per the character design. The tail includes a belt loop, which I have tweaked using a paperclip and binder clip for use when wearing a skirt or jeans without a belt. The tail is light, swishy and sits an appropriate length from the floor. There have been numerous occasions where I have forgotten I'm wearing it!
The design of the tail, being modelled around that of a horse, is very easy to walk around with and does not pose an issue for sitting or lying down.
The tail is a good recreation of the characters tail design and is made of extremely similar (if not the same, perhaps!) material to the mane of the fursuit head, meaning the colour and overall look match very well.
The bright orange streak is striking but doesn't overpower the blue, the two colours are well proportioned. I am happy with the look of the tail.
Fan: This is a game changing feature for me personally, as I am very sensitive to heat. This allows me to wear the suit conformably for very long periods of time, and other than the slight issue with the cable, it has worked flawlessly. It is quiet enough that I can sit in a convention panel without disturbing others, and it does not interfere with hearing in any major way. The battery pack takes AA batteries and can be stored in a pocket easily, I typically hide the wire underneath a shirt or dress.
Movable jaw: The movable jaw is a signature feature of Essorille's suit heads. It is easy to operate and follows my mouth movements when talking well, only a slight bit of extra movement is required to fully open the mouth. Many people have commented to me that they find this really cool (and so do I!) and as I talk in suit at conventions and meets, this gets a lot of use!
