It was very easy to contact Willow. They have (cheap) paid quotes on their website, and they got back to me pretty quick with a quote for both Matrix and another character I was considering. When slots opened, which was announced on Twitter, I believe I applied through a form. They emailed me that I'd been accepted, and we communicated through email. They were very clear about price and what they needed from me in terms of measurements.
The maker did a fantastic job at communication! They keep a public queue so you can see where your suit is in line, and she kept me up to date when it came close to when it was my turn. Once she started work on my suit, she was constantly sending me WIPs, and was very willing to make changes when requested. If I emailed them first, I always got a prompt response within a day or two at most. When I needed to switch emails due to an issue with my email provider, she was very willing to do so. They were very pleasant to work with, and very clearly laid out what they were doing and what they'd need from me.
The completion time was fine! We were given an "I hope to have suits done by this time" estimation (which admittedly WAS past, although I didn't mind), but no deadline. Overall I felt I didn't wait too long, and I could always see they were progressing on suits! I was always aware of where I was in queue, as their queue is public and frequently updated. My suit was shipped very quickly after it was finished – it actually finished around Christmas, and they warned me I might want to wait until after, since around Christmas a lot of packages get lost, which I really appreciated! I opted to wait a bit for shipping for that reason. Tracking was provided.
Overall I'm very happy with my suit! There was some issues with sizing (the straps for the arm sleeves was on me; the neck pattern was a bit too wide and had to be edited and lengthened a bit), but Willow was supremely helpful in working with me on how to fix them! Visually, she looks gorgeous, and very much like the concept art. All of the pieces look very natural together, and like they're meant to fit as a cohesive unit. It's holding up very well, and I haven't noticed any popped seams or damaged bits. Willow was and remains very easy to contact, and was very amenable to changes in the creation progress. She is definitely worth the price I paid!
The head is fairly large on me – if I move my head too fast it turns, and if I look down it falls off. The maker made me a little pillow to put inside which helps, though! The inside is lined with lycra. The ventilation is very good through the mouth, I always feel like I'm getting fresh air and am staying as cool as possible. I've got a pretty substantial blindspot in the front (if two people stand in front of me side-by-side, I probably can't see either of them), but I suspect this is in large part due to her long snoot. Very easy to work around – just have to turn my head slightly.
The suit visually is stunning, and matches my character very well. Her markings are pretty symmetrical, and the shaving is well done. There's no visual hot glue that I've found. The fur is very soft, and the seams are very well done! The fur on the top of the head looks beautiful, and seems to be pretty secure. The shaved face to the longer "mane" of a neck looks very natural. The expression is very fun, and the maker gave me a few options for how I wanted her snout done. They also were kind enough to do last minute front teeth additions. The eyes aren't follow-me, but they might as well be; I seem to look straight at the camera regardless of what angle they're from! Incredibly happy with the appearance of the head.
I got arm sleeves as an add-on to my suit. Initially the elastic straps were very large on me, but this was due to a measuring error on my part. Willow was kind enough to show me how to fix them, and now the fit is much better. They aren't lined, so they were just a little scratchy at first, but now I don't notice at all. Very easy to get on and off. The seams are all made very well, and have held up well to me making very large and dramatic gestures. Fits very well under a t-shirt!
They look stunning! The markings up by the shoulders look beautiful and match the design very well, and they blend in with the handpaws very well. The fur length gradually gradients down, which was a very good concession to the character's design. The shaving is very good, and if you aren't paying attention you'd barely notice they go from long fur to short. I love how they look, and have gotten many compliments on them! When worn under a shirt, you can't see the straps at all.
The handpaws are quite comfortable! They're unlined (and advertised as such – I knew this when I bought them!) with a sewn cuff that makes wearing them pretty comfortable. I have no issues with them unintentionally coming off. The cuff goes up high enough that they tuck nicely into all the long-sleeved tops I've worn. I've got decent dexterity considering I'm wearing big gloves, and the claws and seams are all holding up very well.
They look lovely! I opted for plush claws, and I like how long they look, talon-like without looking out of place. One or two is a little crooked, but I think it gives them charm. They match her design well – they're meant to be more like bird hands than paws. Good 4-fingered look with good depth, and they tuck very nicely into shirts. The fur itself is nicely shaved and soft, and very easy to clean. They also come with right and left tags inside, which is very helpful!
The tail is very comfortable to wear! It has two belt loops at the top for easy wear, and it's pretty easy to "wag" it by just swinging my hips a little. A comfortable weight, and very durable; I've sat on it and moved it around a bunch with no issues. I often find myself missing the weight of it when I take it off!
I ADORE how the tail was made! My character has a crooked tail, and Willow was very amenable to my suggestions for how to make it. The shape is incredible, and matches both the crooked tail and the square shaping of my character. The tail itself is really soft, and the eye markings look fantastic! I usually wear the tail between two belt loops on my jeans so it doesn't slide around when I walk. There's also a squeaker in the tip, which was a surprise I found and was really delighted by!
