Character Concept Art Photos of Completed Product Head Wear Satisfaction The head fit is superb. I was asked to give measurements and Denali made it work and then some. The fit is snug but not too tight, so when I move my head around it doesn’t slip or sag. As for the vision, it’s fantastic. Very small (less than an inch between my eyes) blind spot as per the muzzle, but I can see just fine and even have some depth perception. The ventilation is also great. There are hidden ear vents and a large space in the open mouth that I can even fit a water bottle into! The muzzle is hollowed out for easy breathing room. The head is lined with a stretchy, sweat wicking lycra material, but it’s always good to wear a balaclava underneath for fear of sweat getting past the lycra lining. Visual Satisfaction The appearance of LobitaWorks’ heads are what drew me to their style in the first place. So expressive; no two heads are the same in carve or design! The foam base underneath has great shape, and the shaving job is impeccable as always. Markings are symmetrical and there are no visible seams to be found. I really enjoy how Denali added foam bits to the base of the ears so that the angle makes the ears visible from any view. Besides the foam bits, the ears are 100% fabric so they can flop around like a real spaniel’s ears. On the topic of the ears, the insides are lined with minky, making them SUPER soft— I had many children at BLFC pet and pull at my ears because they’re just that irresistible! The eyes have blue and red pupils rather than the standard black pupils LW suits usually have which adds a flair of uniqueness. I’m really happy that Denali decided on more cheerful-looking default eyes rather than the popular angry style. It makes Shilly look more approachable and friendly. The ear-to-ear smile is also a great touch. It makes me grin looking at my fursuit’s grin! Simply perfect. Special Attachments and Features I saw that Denali was experimenting with removable eyelids at the time of me commissioning them and asked for my suit head to have eyelids as well. They are velcro, meaning the suit head isn’t weighed down and can pass through a metal detector without problem. The head comes with two pairs of eyelids: sultry/sassy, and angry/scheming. The eyelids add so much character on top of the grin she has; it’s 100% Shilly! Body Wear Satisfaction Body fits pretty much perfectly. It’s neatly double-stitched and the cuffed edges are serged for extra stability. The interior is incredibly clean. Fur is easy to brush out and the torso interior is not lined, making it breathable. The leg padding is lined with a sweat wicking, breathable lycra material. It’s so lightweight that it feels like my legs aren’t even surrounded by anything. I do not sweat in this suit nearly as much as I thought, and I have not overheated once. I’m able to idle around in the bodysuit without discomfort. I can dance, stomp around, and play with ease! I did have an incident where a high stress seam in the crotch area popped, leaving a hole about two inches long. I do not fault Lobitaworks at all for this as it is a common area where fabric seams pop. I was able to blanket stitch the hole closed and haven’t had a problem since. Visual Satisfaction The main thing I wanna applaud Denali and TNuki on is the digitigrade leg shape. I adore how the digitigrade came out. They showed me the initial pattern and I really liked it, but man, the final product is even better. The wide, bell-bottom leg holes blend seamlessly with the huge feet, allowing for a stompy, thick appearance for the legs which fits the character’s ref sheet to a T. Nothing is lopsided or asymmetrical, and I’ve checked pretty darn thoroughly. The only shaving on the bodysuit is on the chest area, where the shaving is done diagonally to make it appear like Shilly has a large chest poof. I loooove that!! The fur is SO soft; I believe it’s luxury shag (or maybe flokati) but it’s great quality shag at that because the fur does not mat and is easy to brush out. Hands and Feet Wear Satisfaction I’ll start with the hands: I LOVE THE HANDS. The vinyl claws are hollowed out and are not padded so I can easily stick my fingers in and move them around with quite a bit of dexterity—maybe even more than some handpaws! I can push buttons and hold my phone with them. They are not lined, but wearing under armour gloves solves the sweat problem. And now for the feet: I LOVE THE FEET. They are a pain to carry around on a plane, but the pain is worth it. They’re comfortable and easy to put on—in essence, they function more like sockpaws, because there is no shoe inside, only padding and foam. They slip on like slippers and my feet are held in place with elastic loops. Surprisingly, they’re not that hard to walk in! I do occasionally trip in narrow spaces, but I found that putting one foot in front of the other (har har) prevents tripping. I can walk up and down stairs without any issue. Since there’s no shoe, there’s no sole support, so walking for a long time wears out my feet, but I think if I slip in some soles in the elastic loops everything will be fine on that end. Visual Satisfaction The sewing job on both the hands and feet, again, is superb. I never feel like a seam will pop anywhere. There is no shaving so I don’t need to worry about the symmetry on that. The interiors of the hands and feet are clean and there is no exposed foam on the feet or stray thread in the hands. Since stomping around in the feet, the outdoor soles have shown very little, if any, wear and tear. Special Attachments and Features This is where Shilly’s design is truly unique, and where Denali’s creativity and ingenuity in suit-making where allowed to thrive. The hands are glittery black vinyl claws, and the feet are Digimon-esque and rounded off, not your standard feetpaws. Denali nailed the overall appearance and I can’t be happier with them. Shilly’s lore says her claws are meant to be “like obsidian,” and the fact that Denali chose glittery vinyl for them made me oh-so happy. They used matte black vinyl for her bracelets and anklets which gives a nice shine in good lighting. Tails Wear Satisfaction The tail attaches to the body via two elastic belt loops. I really enjoy this idea as I can partial with the tail. The hole in the bodysuit is a little small, so it’s a two-person job to fit it through a belt. It’s light-weight, bouncy, and the sewing is nice and even. There’s no shaving. The tail occasionally falls over to the side if the belt loops aren’t attached evenly, but that’s alright, since in alternate ref sheets Shilly’s tail tips to the side anyway. Visual Satisfaction Gotta be honest, the tail is my favorite part. Easily the best and most accurate tail curl I’ve ever seen on a fursuit. The lavender, purple, and silver furs blend together so well and the sewing job is without any flaws. The belt loops are neatly sewn and there’s no worry of the seams coming undone. I got a lot of compliments on Shilly’s tail at BLFC and I’m not the least bit surprised—LOOK at it!! Is it not the cutest tail ever? Overall Product Satisfaction How was your concept art realized? I’m extremely satisfied, even if a couple of SNAFUs (out of our control) happened. Before work began on the suit itself, Denali sent me a swatch pack of the various shades of purples they’d use for Shilly’s markings (purple fur is hard to come by, especially in so many shades). We had initially agreed on a grey-purple long pile fur that matched Shilly’s base fur color to a T. Unfortunately, the maker of the fur stopped contacting Denali so we had to choose another fur. I recommended a similar color made by a Chinese manufacturer. Of course, that didn’t work either, since the backing of the fur was extremely thin. So, we tried purple tissavel, but that manufacturer ran out of the tissavel without telling Denali. Our last resort was lavender DF shag, which, as you can see, does not exactly match Shilly’s ref colors. I was a little disappointed at first, not going to lie, but I wasn’t about to make a fuss, so I conjured up an alternate color scheme for Shilly to fit the fursuit’s colors (I even gave it some lore so it makes sense for the character). The final product is incredible and stunning to look at so I’m totally fine with it now. Everyone wins! All of the markings are neat, clean, and symmetrical. The digitigrade pattern and tail pattern are as close to the ref sheets provided as possible. The facial expression and details are undeniably Shilly. Even if her base fur isn’t the classic grey-purple Shilly is known for, one look at the suit and you can’t deny that it’s her. I’m dumbfounded as to how Denali and TNuki managed to pull off such a stellar job. How well does everything fit together and match up? I knew what I was gonna get when i commissioned LobitaWorks and I got it and then some. The style is so undeniably theirs. At BLFC, even when I wasn’t wearing the LW suiter badge, people recognized my maker right away. There’s no bagginess, even in my rather large chest area. If your costume has unique foamwork, double stitched and serged seams, and the most TLC ever put into a custom fursuit, it’s LobitaWorks, no doubt! Overall Project Quality If this wasn’t my suit, it’d still be one ofmy favorites, no doubt. I still can’t believe this incredible piece of art belongs to me. Sewn to near perfection, beautiful to look at, fun to hug. It’s everything I’ve wanted in a suit and more. Purchase Process Initial Contact I sent a quote a few days after they publicly opened commissions and I received an e-mail within 24 hours that they got it. Within the time that commission slots would be chosen, I was picked for a slot. I paid the down payment to secure my slot and communication was an absolute breeze from there. Maker Response Time During the time in which my suit was being made, all e-mails were received within 24 hours at the absolute latest, even for my annoying questions and requests. All contact was done through e-mail. Maker Professionalism I’m not sugercoating anything when I say this has to have been the best commission experience I’ve ever had. The only things that went haywire were the things that were out of Denali’s control. Everything else was stellar. Easy communication allowed for a relaxing time waiting for the next almost-daily update. It honestly felt like I was communicating with an old friend at times. If you want amazing customer service, look no further. Project Completion Time There is no public queue for LW so it was hard to assume when work on my suit would start—but an e-mail to them asking when they would start answered that question. Work on the suit began approximately a month before the deadline, which was a tad concerning, but the two-person team behind LW finished it and shipped it in time; I received the suit in person the day I arrived at BLFC on May 10th. Upon unboxing the suit, I gave it a good look over, and nothing appears rushed. Rating FursuitReview rates by asking the question: Would you recommend this maker? I brush it every single day and give it tons of TLC. I wore it for a good chunk of BLFC and only had one SNAFU, which was my own fault, not the maker’s. Kids loved it, old folks loved it, other suiters loved it, and I loved it the most suiting in it. I don’t have any cons for LobitaWorks. Nothing at all. Everything went as well as it possibly could have. I’m definitely considering commissioning them again for a collar to go with the character, as well as props or even extra suit parts. I wouldn’t have had any other maker tackle such a challenging character, because I don’t trust any other maker as much as I do LW. All the great stuff you’ve heard about them is absolutely true.
