Initial contact was quick to get a quote, which would have made me think this kind of response time would be continued.(Spoiler: It did not.)
Communication after the initial quote started out okay but only went downhill. I was constantly given excuses as to why my messages were not read until weeks to almost months later. This maker has no solid way of communication. We were originally communicating through instagram messages, but after he complained the app was not alerting him, we switched to his Etsy(which he now deleted). Etsy communication eventually ran into the same problem, so we switched to discord. This again did not improve communication. I would be left in the dark many times and even reaching out through email, but as expected at that point, did not receive a response. There were many huge gaps no matter what.
Initially we agreed upon a 1-2 month turn around time on completion once it was the turn for my commission slot. I was 5th in line when I put my deposit down Jan 1, 2019. My slot was estimated for June that year. Time went by and he did start working on my suit around that time, but that is when the delays began.(It would not be another year before I even got a picture of my head he was working on, that I had to ask multiple times to see any WIP of. My suit then continuously would be pushed back later and later.. That 1-2 months turning into 3 years, where I still would not receive my completed partial. I was very patient and understanding during that time, maybe too much so. What I received in the end was nothing close to what I had been promised after paying him in full.
Overall project quality isn't applicable since I only received half of it that was originally to be done. What was received is however not very satisfying. There were items missing that I had been told were completed, but never received. The head was explained to me as completed minus the head fin, but there are many errors I will be having fixed with another maker.
The head is rather tight and suffocating. It's difficult to wear it for long and is extremely hot with little ventilation. I have and have worn multiple other suits, but this one I found is very difficult to breathe in.
Visually it was coming along really nicely, however on closer inspection there are a lot of seams puckering. In a photo I provided you can clearly see black thread showing through the white fabric.
It was supposed to have been finished with a red fin as depicted in my reference. I was fine with receiving it unfinished, as the maker told me it was the only thing remaining to complete on the suit.(there were multiple pushbacks in our agreed upon deadline varying in reasons from health or family gatherings which is why I opted to receive it unfinished) I settled for a partial refund to receive everything done aside from that fin, which I was to receive the fabric for. I got the fabric for the red, but not the tan color of the "spikes" that should match the horns.(I actually only received the head and hands first, and had to message them about forgetting to send the materials.. plus the arms and tail that should have also been sent.)
Hands are snug and fit comfortable without sliding off. As noted they were supposed to have come with completed or at the least near completed arms. In a message sent I was told the arms were complete and just needed the strap. These were never sent to me, and never explained what happened to these "supposed arms". So I am to believe it was a lie.
Hands are visually okay. The fabric is already pilling, due to the low quality. This maker works with fleece, so in part it was to be expected at some point. I would have thought they would have used a higher quality fleece, but that is not the case.
Would you recommend this maker?
This means the reviewer would NOT recommend ARocco SUITS unless they significantly change their practices.
