It was very easy to contact them! I had just messaged them on instagram asking about quotes after they had posted about quotes being open.
It was quick when they responded to me, we continued the commission process entirely through instagram. However alot of things were done to my character before i was able to comment on it, such as no clarification of how they were doing to do the hair on the back before they made them, no checking if the ears were okay before they made them, or the hair on the front they had done and glued down to my fursuits face before i was able to tell them it was incorrect. They requested to not make changes because they had already done the ears, so i figured they'd do that for everything else too. You also cant get glue like that out of fur on the face. I felt like i was kind of out of control during the commission.
It only took a month start to finish, staring in late june and arriving at my house early august.
I actually am unable to wear this fursuit head due to safety issues such as sight and the pain in my nose due to the digging. I cannot see anything to my right, would constantly bump into people or have to walk incredibly slowly. I thought this was normal, as it was my first fursuit. I learnt recently from other kig fursuiters and kig fursuit makers that this wasn't normal.
The fursuit has not been durable and had its first breakages a month into owning, it cannot stand up on its own and falls over while other kigs are able to, its head overall doesnt fit me and my chin pokes out, the face colors and the ears are incorrectly colored.
I don't think this was worth the price i had paid, two of the issues (color and hair) i could have managed to speak up and ask for them to fix it, but it was my first commission and i was scared to, as they had requested to not change the ears they had already made.
The head does not fit me, despite it being adjustable. My chin pokes out and I have a small head. Kig's faces should be able to cover your chin. The nose support inside of the head stabs into my nose bridge and leaves a noticeable mark after wearing it for 10+ minutes and hurts.
The hair was glued down onto the other eye, so i cant see out of one of the eyes which wasn't passed by me as a thing that would happen. The eye mesh was white, and i had to use black eyeshadow to make it darker on the eye i could see out of to be able to see better at all, because of the eye LED's that also lit up the white and made me blind and see only red through one eye, and totally blind through the other.
I can breathe well atleast, because the back of the head is massive which in many other kig heads is not meant to be the case! Whenever i look down, you can see inside.
At first, i was so happy to have the fursuit. I didn't have experience, any knowledge of kig fursuits or fursuits in general. at MFC i met another kig fursuit maker, who pointed out how badly my fursuit was made. The back of the head is huge, you can see into my head if i look down even slightly, it also hangs over my back. It was specifically confirmed that the horns of my fursuit head would be 3D printed and solid. It is not and its soft and incredibly flimsy. The fursuit head had two teeth which were also very flimsy, which one fell off about a month into owning.
My character in the reference sheet was a black to dark gray and in the process meemonster01 had made it grey and white. I personally was okay with the visual change as i just happened to like the new color variation, but i am sure that not everybody would be okay with such a change of their characters design without talking about it first.
The color of my fursuits ears was also changed, but they had painted part of the ears red, when in the character sheet it is a red to dark grey gradient. They had added a white rim to the entire inner ear which i didn't like, i requested it to be fixed but they requested to not fix it. It was my first ever commission and I was really scared in these situations so i gave in and let it stay. The red on the ears they did apply was painted (not airbrushed) on, and i had to try to crack the paint to make the ears fur look a little better. The red fur is really crunchy and still doesn't look good.
The back of the hair wasn't correct, as her hair as annotated in the reference goes up like a upwards mane. on the fursuit she has a straight, short middle part. The front of her hair wasn't meant to touch her face, as i showed in a later drawn example to them. Its really tedious to brush her hair, as the front is all glued down and on metal wires; the wires i had approved of assuming it'd hold the weight of the hair because it WASNT resting on the face! There was nothing i could do about the hair being glued down after it had been done.
There is alot of poorly glued on areas of the head, such as around the hair connecting to the head, the horns and the remaining tooth.
I had red LED eyes on the eyes, both of them. They stopped working about a month in even with trying to replace the battery. The battery for the LED is part of what i think helps dig into my nose bridge, which marks and hurts a lot and makes me unable to wear it for a long period of time. One of the eyes was covered by glued down hair, so i could only see red in one of my eyes.
The fursuit head also has mechanical moving ears, which functioned well, was a lot of fun and a great conversation starter.
Would you recommend this maker?
This means the reviewer would NOT recommend MeeMonster Studio unless they significantly change their practices.
It took me a long time to make this review, as ive been thinking for a year now 'is it my fault this went so bad, i wasnt assertive enough when commissioning them, maybe im not wearing it right'. Im now certain that its okay for me to talk about my experience and what i received. thank you!
