Features: Horns or Antlers Concept Art Photos of Completed Product Overall Initial ContactI contacted them through Instagram initially for a quote for just a head originally. The price was within my budget, and I was able to pay it off within a month, so I went forward it upon being given the quote. Maker CommunicationCommunication was alright, and definitely could've been better, which they acknowledged toward the end of the commission progress. Responses were made in a timely manner. However, I just didn't like that I had to reach out for updates vs being on top of it and letting me know what was going on behind the scenes or address it more publicly if there's no time to update individual clients. I did not have a deadline as the pandemic was ongoing (and TOS stated no deadline work accepted) and I had no plans for conventions or anything, so I was going by the ETA given on their website. Originally, the eta was 3-4 months, but several months later, I noticed this was changed to 5-6 months without being notified of this. There were 3 slots ahead of me, 2 partials, and a simple, symmetrical-designed head-only commission. I was well aware of this and I was given a link to their trello. With the progress being made at the time, the 3-4 month eta seemed realistic and on track, but I noticed work did slow down with no real communication besides in February when I emailed them to add on a tail. Me asking for any updates for the first time, since there hadn't been since April when my tail was completed: When a public post was made about up coming delays: Another couple months went by without any updates, so I asked again early August, then my head was actually started. Asked again in November since things slowed down, then again in January. At one point they told me I asked for an update back in June after they posted they were moving, which isn't correct if you look at the dates. Please note if I see any public updates, I won't ask artists for an update (especially when a public queue is provided), I'm very patient, and all I expect is basic correspondence every now and then. But if I don't hear anything in a few months with little to no progress made, I do think it's in my right to ask how things are going along. They told me not to hold them to the same standards as well established makers since they were still new and working on being able to work and complete things in a better manner, which I do understand, but I don't think basic communication at least, regarding delays or major life updates is asking too much, whether you are new to this or been doing this for well over a decade. Project Completion TimeI commissioned and made a down payment in November 2020, and paid it off in December 2020. Then I asked to add on a tail in February 2021 and paid that same day. The tail was finished in April 2021. Work on my fursuit head did not start until the middle of August 2021, and this is after I asked again for updates after 2 months of inactivity and haven't heard from them really at all besides just what was being updated on Trello. The head was finally finished in February 2022. In total, the project was completed in 14 months, it passed both the eta's listed on their tos. Overall Project QualityI really love how both pieces turned out. The quality is wonderful, you can tell how much time went into both the head and the tail. The materials used were perfect and the colors were spot on, from the horns, to the tail. Everything is just very high quality and met my expectations. Components Head Wear SatisfactionThe vision and ventilation is good, I have no problem seeing from the inside (besides the normal blind spot of fursuit heads) or breathing in it. It's lined on the inside as well. Wearing it however the head, near the eyes/muzzle, it does press down on my nose when putting it on initially. I haven't worn the head long enough to see if it's an issue in the long-run. Visual SatisfactionThe markings are symmetrical, with no visible seams, overall I really love the look of it. The only things I would have changed seeing it in person vs initial photos, are the placement of the fangs and the ear tags. Facing straight forward, you miss the ear tags as the fur covers them up a little, and the angle of the fangs too, you don't really see them at first. Please not, this is just me being nitpicky, other than that, this head is very well made an an accurate depiction of my fursona. Tail Wear SatisfactionThe tail is great, no popped seams, and where the area for the back where the belt loops are, it's all done very flawlessly. The belt loop material and the stitching is very durable. Visual SatisfactionThe tail is perfect. At the end of it, it has a heart, and the shape and markings are symmetrical and match her design. Final CommentsI'm happy with how my head and tail came out, Avo followed my refs to a T. The quality is fabulous and doesn't disappoint. However multiple etas were missed and the tos was updated without letting existing clients know. The communication (or lack of it that was not in responses to emails I sent out first) just made the process feel impersonal for me, and for that reason I feel I can neither recommend or not recommend Avocadog since communication is VERY important to me as I have been scammed before.
