Overall

Initial ContactI was contacted by the maker via social media messaging. There was no online form to fill out when I was contacted, but the Terms of Service and prices are clearly stated on their website.


Maker CommunicationThe maker was very easy to talk to. Updates would be provided via messages and social media platforms. There were weekly updates about my suit on top of a monthly view into what was to be completed. They would respond to me within a few hours and spoke/wrote very business-like. They always answered my questions about the suit and gave clear and concise reasons about specific aspects of the design choices.

Project Completion TimeI was provided a rough estimate of when my suit would be completed. My project was added to a personal queue. At the time I commissioned the suit there was no public queue, but I was provided updates about my suit in a timely manner. I was aware when specific parts of the suit were complete and was provided pictures. I was able to pick up my suit due to the location of the maker to where I am located.


Overall Project QualityI am quite satisfied with the outcome of my suit. I'm very cautious with my suit due to being new with having a fursuit, but I feel comfortable with putting it on without fear of damaging anything. The whole suit comes together so well and I can clearly see my character through the work completed by my maker. Every piece of the puzzle that is a fursuit creates a sturdy suit that holds up to a very uniform and handsome look.


Components


Head

Wear SatisfactionThe head is very comfortable to wear. It is fully lined and there isn't anything that could poke or stab me. The head base is made of foam. The head is very breathable: I've worn a balaclava with it as recommended and even with longer (2+ hrs) suiting sessions, I do not build up a lot of sweat. However, the only clear airflow that I am able to get through the head is mainly through the mouth, which can still circulate through the head. The head is good vision with no major blind spots. There's a small arc, roughly the size of my hand, in front of myself that I cannot see. The head is easily tunable, even in fullsuit, so my vision can be corrected.


Visual SatisfactionI am very pleased with the head. The markings beneath the eyes and on the neck are symmetrical on both sides and match the specifics of my character's design. With this specific design, my character's fur was shaven down to represent "scales" instead of fur. There are a few apparent bald spots from the shaving, but nothing too noticable. The fur is still very soft and does not appear wrinkly or too long. The fur is easily brushed to put it back into its place. My character's elevated "eyebrows" are not fully formed and apparent as what I was looking for, but does not take away from defining my character. The plush spikes are sewn together and hold their shape very well. The horns are a foam base and cut in the form of my character's design. The horns are a bit blocky and do not have the circular appearance at the base to the tip of the horns, but that does not take away from my character's design. Near the top of the head there is less support for the fur and appears more deflated than on the forehead/snout area. The head's snout is also very round and short, unlike the design's concept art. The snout was more closely linked to a canine rather than a reptilian. I also commissioned for a pair of eyelids that can be put into three different expressions (sad, mad, neutral). The eyelids are connected through magnets, but the magnets do not attract to the forehead anymore. This can be easily fixed with adding Velcro. The most major aspect, in my view, is my character's snaggle teeth, which was pulled off through plush teeth. The teeth do hang out as expected, but can get trapped inside the mouth if the jaw is opened up too much. Storage wise, it is super easy to store the head thanks to the character-designed storage bag made by the maker. There are apparent "slots" for my character's horns and ears to limit damage/wear-and-tear.

Overall, my character's head is accurate to the design and appears as a dragon/reptilian from far or close. The character's follow-me eyes allow for multiple angles and expressions. I am very pleased with how the head came out and how expressive it is.



One-Piece Body

Wear SatisfactionThe bodusuit fits me very well, allowing me a wide range of motion. The bodysuit is very durable and has held up very well under constant stress; no seams have popped so far. The interior is unlined and slides on easily. At all openings (L/R feet, L/R hands) there is a zipper that would zip onto my feet and hands. The hardest part is getting my legs into each "leg" of the bodysuit once everything is zipped on. The stuffing that gives the digitgrade look sometimes gets in the way, but does not limit any movement.

It does get hot easily inside the bodysuit, but the front "scales" are not fur and does feel lighter in the front. The overall bodysuit is not heavy and is breathable.


Visual SatisfactionThe bodysuit matches my character's design to the dot. The bright blue diamonds and triangles are symmetric on both sides and appear properly placed. The fur is very soft, cut short, and easily brushed. The shaving between markings, "scale", and body is clean and clear. In order to get into the body suit, there is a Velcroed "scale" that hides the zipper that I use to take on and off the bodysuit. The Velcro is apparent when suiting and is very noticeable near the top of the chest on the left side.

The padding in the bodysuit creates an appealing curve and does appear as an animal walking on its hindleg. Around the waist and the buttocks there is some wrinkling and folding of the fur on the bodysuit.

For a seamless look between the tail, feet, and hands there's zippers that can be zipped onto the bodysuit. There's a hold cut out around the butt where the tail is zipped onto the bodysuit. The tail does require a belt on top of the zipper to keep it up.

Overall, I am very pleased with the design and results of the bodysuit.



Hands

Wear SatisfactionThe hands are 5-fingered and is fully lined on the inside. The paws slide into my hands quite well, but the right paw is a bit tight around the wrist. There are zippers on the edges of the hands. These zipper attach to the bodysuit. When partialing, the zippers do dig into my skin when attempting to put on the hands; this is most noticeable on the right hand paw. Due to the length of the fur on the bodysuit, the zippers' clips do get stuck on the fur and can be a hassle to zip on and off. I have strong dexterity with my hands, but I cannot zip myself up with the hands on, so I require a handler to help me zip up my bodysuit if I zip my hands onto the bodysuit. Without zipping the hands, I am easily capable of suiting up by myself. When suiting, I do break into a sweat around my palms, but the hand absorbs my sweat appropriately. The hands are easy to clean.


Visual SatisfactionThey look, appear, and feel great! The zippers at the edge of the hand gives a seamless look when zippered onto the bodysuit. It is apparent to where the bodysuit and hands are connected, but overall not very noticable. The pawpads are mirrored quite well on both sets of hands. The claws are a bit lopsided on a few digits on both hands. The claws are soft and do not have a "scratchy" feeling when pressing on another individual. The hands match the design very well.


Tail

Wear SatisfactionThe tail is huge and long, and as such requires a belt to hold up its weight. The tail has a foam-base and is considered a super-motion tail. The tail is very comfortable and sized appropriately to the concept provided. The tail does not drag on the ground when standing, but any strong walking or squatting movement will cause the tip of the tail tough the ground. At the front of the tail is a zipper and two nylon belt loops for extra security. The tail zips onto the bodysuit. The tail is not too heavy when suiting.


Visual SatisfactionThe tail is the best part of the entire suit. It turned out fantastic and is a clear representation of a reptilian's tail. The tail is not as super-motion as expected. The tail is super soft and there is a clear indication between fur length. The "scales" on the bottom of the tail are perfectly constructed. The tail is easily brushed. I am quite satisfied with the materials used and how the tail appears.


Feet

Wear SatisfactionThe feetpaws are very comfortable and allow for good movement. A slip-on shoe is glued into the feetpaws. The feetpaws also have a zipper that zips onto the bodysuit. There is a 'L' on the inside of one shoe to separate right from left since my character's feet are symmetrical. My ankles do not show if I stretch too much. My feet do not slide off and I can easily run a lap (400m) around a track with them on.

The feetpaws have a swappable indoor/outdoor soles. The two different soles are velcroed onto the feepaw. This allows for an easy change. The feetpaw is fully lined.


Visual SatisfactionBoth pair of feetpaws appear and feel great! There are claws at the tip of each toe, which are symmetric on both sides and are not lopsided. The feetpaws match the concept art provided to the maker in respect to its color. The feetpaw however is too much "canine-like" due to the toe shape. The feetpaw isn't shaped like a reptilian with claws but rather has paws.

Final CommentsTo be aware, I am friends with the maker and I was provided a labor-free charge of the suit. I am unable to provide an accurate price of the suit due to this, but I am able to estimate the cost of this suit to be around $5000-7000. My character was only the 3rd suit they had made since starting their business and this was the very first reptilian (dragon) they had made. My character has a complex design and they took on the challenge with a willingness to learn.

SunnySideUp Costumes&Creations is a wonderful person and easy to communicate with. I am excited to be a part of the "SunnySideUp Fmaily" and watch it grow over the years. I do have a personal bias due to knowing this individual before commissioning the suit, but I am confident in saying that I would recommend this maker to anyone looking for bringing their character to life. Take my opinion how you will.
