It was very easy, in my case i was lucky enough to have the first contact in person with her as we both was visiting a common friend.
So, as we talked face to face it was very easy to discuss about the project and what we need for it.
I bought one out of three spot directly from her, in my case it was advertised on her channel on telegram.
The communication was excellent through all the time, no delay, frequent updates, discussion about variations during the making of the various parts, all in all no problems.
All in all i am very satisfied with the competition time.
I bought one of the three spot she offered at the time, i think i was the second one, but since our project was an experiment, we wanted to do some measurements and the DTD together, we missed a couple of occasions because of my, and her mate's job so we lost some time….but for me was not a problem, we did not [have a] fixed competition date, i wanted her to take all the time she needed.
In the end from when we sorted things out, made the DTD and she started to work on it, she completed the suit in around six months, and for me is a very reasonable time.
There was no shipping, i went again to her place and collected it personally, so we had also the time to fix a couple of thing before going to a meeting together.
Overall i am VERY happy, for the build quality, aesthetic, functionality and comfort of the suit, it has exceeded all my expectations, really, and was worth the waiting time and also the price, even with the minor problems, but i keep in mind that this is a handmade item, and as everything handmade some imperfections could be present.
We discussed a lot about the aesthetic mostly, how the fursuit has to look like, what expressions i wanted, what bases, padding, fur shavings, zippers placements, and she did everything as planned, our objectives have been achieved, above all with the modular body and the handpaws.
Looking at the pictures i got while suiting, i can say that everything fits together perfectly, just as i wanted, digitigrade, but slender, with the right proportions and dimensions, except for, as said before, the tail a bit longer and the left ear a little higher than the right one.
Excellent comfort, for walking, running, dancing, even after hours of suiting, also in the open, in uneven terrain, dirt paths, woods.
Personally i have the fear of it tearing up, but at the last con I got a lil wild in the disco, and found no damage, so i think that the suit is pretty strong and will endure a lot of time.
I am a pretty small person so i choose the smallest base available from the maker.
The base is a casted foam base, very well made and proportioned, the finished head is very light and comfortable even for hours of suiting, internal lining is custom colored, made of water repellent fabric, there is a velcro strap for adjusting the size made of the same fabric.
The eyes structure is 3D printed and pretty solid, eyes can also be removed from the head for easier cleaning, there are also different magnetic eyelids for make different expressions.
Tongue and teeth are made of fabric, tongue is magnetic too and can be attached to both sides of the muzzle or removed completely.
The ventilation is good, the air can enter the head from the muzzle, nose and a bit even from the eyes if there is wind or a fan pointed at them.
The visual in my opinion is fantastic, even with the eyelids on, i have a pretty good peripheral view….let's say…at nose tip, i can see 40cm (15.7 inches ) on both sides, and the blind spot in the center is very minimal, most of the time i walk around without a spotter also in the open.
All in all the head is very well done, shapes are good, shaving, transition between fur lengths, general symmetry, the precision of the seams and junction of every piece of fur or fabric is all very well done.
The fur is fantastic, high quality, soft, easy to brush, if brushed and maintained constantly is like the suit is never been used.
There are just a couple of asymmetric components, the right upper canine teeth that is a bit bigger that the left one and the left ear that is a bit longer than the right one.
We will fix that in the future, but is just aesthetic, i already understood how to make these look good while taking pictures.
Also, i did not notice in first person that the ears are different, but saw it looking at the pictures….is just like 5 millimeters or so of difference ( circa 0.2 inches ).
Keep in mind that the suit is a full black wolf….and is a pain to work with all that black….i experienced first hand and i'll be always sorry for my maker and her eyes.
Anyway, as i told before, the general look and quality is perfect, she also understood right away my personality and put everything into the suit, i absolutely love the expressions i can achieve with different position and atmosphere and combination of eyelids.
The fursuit body is a bit out of the ordinary, i requested it that way and my maker agreed to experiment that solution.
Is a full body, but with arms, upper body, and legs detachable, everything is kept together with zippers, for the arms the two classic zip around the shoulders while for upper body/legs i have a zipper around the waist line, also there is the zipper on the chest.
It fits a bit loose….but it's my fault, when we have done the duct tape dummy ( i went to her place and we did it together ) i was a bit bigger, and while she was making the suit i lost some weight…..but it's a good thing, because now in summer i can use the jacket with ice packs under the suit and it fits perfectly.
There is no lining, and tough it weight a bit i can move very very easily, also has a very good airflow….i remember on the second outing, it was a sunny day, around 24 °C ( 75° F ) and after a few hours my undersuit was quite soaked….we entered a tunnel, with an opening at the end that allowed a lot of air to come in…and i was feeling COLD while still in fursuit because the wind was passing easily through the fur.
As for now, i only had to repair 3 little points where the seams between fur and zippers were juuuust at he border of the zipper's fabric, easy fix, approved by my maker as i am able to handseam, but again please keep in mind that work with all that black is not easy, it really make the eyes suffer and you don't see well after a while.
Can't blame my maker for these little spots.
Anyway, after a wild night in the disco at the last con, i had not found further seams damage.
So, for he upper body, i am really happy with it, super quality, very well done, same high quality fur as for the head, transition between fur length in the chest and arms is flawless, easy to brush and clean.
The shape is not made by padding but just with the fur's fabric itself, with a very precise duct tape dummy and the fine work of the maker it follows my body just right, also the shaving pattern and the shapes of the legs help to the general visual effect.
We discussed a lot for the shaving pattern, fur length, zippers position and everything is like we planned.
The hand-paws are another experiment and masterpiece of the maker.
I asked her for very slim hand-paws, with five fingers, so i can actually am able to do almost everything while wearing them, and for create this kind of hand-paws, we made a duct tape dummy of my hands as well!
I can use the phone, open doors, drawers, the fridge, type on the keyboard, grabs water bottles or tiny things like a coin with just the tip of the claws, they fits perfectly, and there is also a built in strap around the wrists to secure them and not have them slip off….but even with the strap loose, it never happened.
I had to fix a seam just once, but i think it was my mate "fault" because he wanted to try one paw, but since his hands are pretty bigger than mine probably the seam suffered a bit.
General aspect….perfect….really, just as i wanted them, both aesthetically and functionally.
Just a note about the claws, these are a set of resin claws i bought from RooFur, same as the one i used for another pair of hand-paws i made many years ago.
I asked my maker to use these because they are absolutely fantastic and functional, because behind the claws, there is a small cup ( claw and cup are one unique piece ) where the fingertip goes inside, so it possible to imprint a force to the claws or have such a good control that makes possible to lift a coin just pinning it between claws tips.
The hand-paws fingers tip have a hole to let the claw out, while he cup stays inside, claws are not fixed and are free to move, or be removed for whatever reason.
She proposed me similar claws, but 3D printed, i declined because i was not sure about the durability with MY way to use them, as i said before, i use the claws a lot.
The paw pads are made of fleece, seams are invisible, the shapes, position on the fingers and palms are perfect.
As for the legs, again i am very satisfied. I already said that i am small, so i asked the maker for digitigrade legs but with a very slim padding, the general aspect of the fursuit has to be slender and damn she did a wonderful job!
As for the comfort….is flawless, i did not expect to be able to move so well, can be walking, running, using stairs….even spiral staircases!
Also, the interior has lining, is like a soft mesh that contains the padding itself, it has a velcro strap all around the top, near the waist line, to close it but is like not having it at all, can't feel it while moving.
Airflow obviously is absent in the front because of he padding, but is very good in the back and below the knees, just like like the upper body.
Again, the fur is perfect, easy to maintain, shaved very well and as we agreed, also the visual appearance is just how i wanted, digitigrade but very slim.
The padding is not fixed, i can open the interior lining and put it in more, distribute it as i want to modify the shape, or take it all out for washing the legs.
There is also some lining around the hole for the tail, same water repellent material, very soft, and made in a way that even without the tail, is not possible to see inside.
Also the lower part of the legs are lined, because here there are the zippers to attach the feet-paws, with the zippers seamed on the lining under the fur's fabric, so the feet-paws are attached to the lining and the fur just hides the junction
The tail is very comfortable, even if it's a bit bigger than planned, is nice to feel swing around while walking, it has the right weigh and don't get me tired, i have to say, while suiting i feel it just because its moving, while when i am still, is like not having a tail at all.
Is very well made, with a big unique strap at the top, the diameter of the tail at the top end is pretty big, to match and hide the hole in the body.
With the right belt i easy to put on, and the big strap can let you tighten the belt as you want without problem so it's firmly against you.
I don't know what kind of padding its inside, but it is halfway from solid and soft, it has the right consistency for not swaying to much and be able to wags in a nice way.
As i said before is a bit longer than expected but the general view is still good, other than that he fur is the same quality as all the rest, lovely, soft, the seams are all good and strong, in particular the ones of the strap.
And again the movements are lovely
Feet-paws are very light, very comfy and walking around is very easy even on difficult terrain like rocks, gravel paths, uneven meadows, spiral staircases.
I have interchangeable soles, outside and inside ones with paw-pads, attached to the feet-paws' soles with strong velcro strips, is not possible to loose them.
Feet-paws as i said before are connected to the legs by zippers, so there is no way they can slip off or that my legs can be visible.
Putting them on is easy, a bit tricky to connect the zippers but after a couple of time i was able to get used and now i can do it myself without problem.
Claws are made of fabric, same as the head's lining, so water repellent and easy to clean, the fur is he same high quality, as everything else, the transition between short an long fur is well done, also there is internal lining, as always, is the water repellent fabric.
At now, no seams popped…even after that wild disco night so i think they'll never pops in he future.
As for a lot of details, i asked the maker to have the smallest feet-paws possible, in line with the general proportions of the suit, so she used the smallest feet-paws base she had at the moment, made of cast foam.
All in all, to me, they seems still a bit big, but…looking at the general outcome they are perfect and fit well in the proportions.
Also the digitigrade style is well done, like the combination of short and long fur as we agreed, she have done everything as planned.
As described before, the body is modular, with arms, upper body and legs all separable with zippers on my request, while zippers between legs and feet-paws was a default feature of the maker.
She had some trouble for positioning the waist-line zipper, and blend with the one of the chest but she did a wonderful engineering on that, and also, no zippers are visible, all hidden with the long fur. Obviously it need to be brushed in the proper way to hide everything.
With a modular body i can disassemble everything and carry around more easily, but also clean everything with ease, or wash in the washing machine just a few parts and not the whole body.
Also, with this solution i can choose to wear it as a fullsuit, or 3/4 or partial with one unique body.
The negative aspect, obviously, is that this body is more susceptible to pop some seams and is more delicate than a one piece body, for example being hugged and lifted off the ground is not recommended.
I am not very wild while suiting so this body works for me, but a person who love to move a lot, run, dance or do extreme sports in suit should not ask for this solution.
Other special features are the head and feet-paws bases, made from casted foam, also the removable eyes, 3D printed with sublimated irises, and the magnetic eyelids for different expressions.
Though the eyes are just stuck in the head and held in place by friction only, they don't fell off, its needed a bit of force to take them out, and the magnetic eyelids stays in place without problems as both eyelids and eyes have matching magnets.
