Overall

Initial ContactTomacats had opened a quote form via google forms that would also allow commissioners a spot into their waitlist or queue if accepted and chosen by them. They announced a specific date and time they would accept people into their waitlist on all socials, and went above and beyond to respond to each and every applicant. Immediately after responding to their acceptance email, I was added to a two group chats on Telegram: the fursuit family chat and a chat with just Gib and Uma made solely for WIPs and questions. It was super easy to understand them and they draw out everything, even creating a 3D rendering for you. I felt as though I was truly apart of each and every step of the process.

Maker CommunicationWe started out on Gmail and moved to Telegram, but they were willing to communicate in any way that worked for me. I never had to actively reach out to Uma and Gib, they were constantly reaching out to me. Rather than you spamming them asking for WIPs, they will spam YOU. Communication is key and they are completely transparent with their schedule to their commissioners. Gib and Uma treat fursuit making as an actual job rather than a lucrative hobby. I felt as though they were often clocking in and out of work every day they were working on my suit, constantly sending me WIPs and having the most fun and professional conversations in between. I felt like a real client and a true friend, leading me to absolutely adore these two people. They went above and beyond with their customer service. Beyond anything I ever expected getting into. I usually dread the fursuit commissioning process; a lot of my customer experience has driven me away from the furry fandom, but that changed the second I began working with these two. I don’t think there’s a specific number they’re worth, because that number should be so much more. This was truly worth every single penny paid up front. The care that went into bringing my fursona to life reminded me why I am a furry. I felt as though they genuinely took what I envisioned in my head and made him real. Tomacats aren’t just a pair of makers, they’re a family. And despite a very slight language barrier, I genuinely believe it made little to no difference in the commissioning process and they understood every single thing I asked for perfectly.

Project Completion TimeI was originally selected to be put on the waitlist while they worked on their initial queue, but that wait time was hardly noticeable. I made a special request to have my suit done in time for Furry Weekend Atlanta and they delivered with a week to spare. They finished a queue of about six suits in just a few months and finished mine in what felt like just a couple weeks. I was accepted for their WAITLIST on 10/1/23 and had my suit IN MY HANDS by 5/1/24. To put that into perspective, I received my first Head Bucket WIP photo on 4/3/24. Not to mention the time that it took for the package to travel from Spain to America and getting through customs. However, despite their quick pace, the work reflects otherwise! My fursuit is durable and incredible quality, as if they spent months tediously working on it. Working with Tomacats is nothing short of seamless perfection, at no extra cost either.

Overall Project QualityWhen I received the head I immediately could tell how durable it was. Despite how soft and light the head is, it is also extremely firm and sturdy like a helmet. All the fur was from Howl Fabric so it is arguably made up of the best quality fur it could be made of. I am obsessed with how the fur flows, and they made the ears wiggly at my request. His eyes are made up of the best possible materials I could think of, and I was so excited when they allowed me to choose a color to 3D print his eyes with. But above anything, the beard is my favorite thing about him and I hope to be an example of future fursuit beards to come.

Components

Head

Wear SatisfactionI am more than satisfied with the quality of the suit. The inside of the head is lined with neoprene, making for a very soft and breathable experience with plenty of ventilation and air circulation. I like to describe the head as very "con floor friendly" because I can comfortably wear it for extended periods of time without straining my body. It is not too tight or loose, it fits just right with the perfect amount of room for my glasses and to slide the head on and off, I'd assume because they ask for measurements of your head prior to beginning their work. Because of this, my mouth and eyes also align perfectly with the head itself, making the vision and airflow that much more seamless. This is the first suit I've worn where I do not feel as though I have to actively move my entire head to see my surroundings, because the peripheral vision is just that incredible, with a very minimal blind spot. Not to mention the pair of pillows they supplied that attach with Velcro on the inside, making it even more comfortable with extra cushion. I truly feel as though I am an animal when I wear this head, there is not a single bit of discomfort that distracts me from the fantasy that is fursuiting.

Visual SatisfactionThis is the most symmetrical suit I've ever owned, with some of the cleanest shaving I've ever seen. The shave job is far from choppy, and there is not a single spot of backing to be found. The transition between markings and fur length are simply seamless, and I am amazed at how well they pulled off the spots and wavy markings. Every detail I asked for was provided and then some. It is also not lost on me how perfectly they did his hair and beard, it is that attention to detail that made me choose them to begin with. They have a very particular skill set in fursuit hair, and I am beyond impressed by it. However, they also have such an innate sense of anatomy: there was no one else I could trust more to pull off a tree kangaroo! Unique species know that there is a very specific trust that comes with commissioning makers, and let it be known that your trust is in good hands with these two. From cats to dragons to kangaroos, they've got you covered. This head is also so very expressive, with a set of eyelids (that stay on PERFECTLY!) and tongues included. I can achieve many different expressions with this head, and there isn't an angle I prefer over any other. He is perfect from every angle. He looks exactly like his concept art, their creative vision brought my character to life exactly the way I imagined him.

Final CommentsFor what it’s worth, I’ve felt a big positive change in my life since I’ve been apart of the Tomacats family. My fursuit siblings are some of the sweetest people I’ve come to know along with my makers. I genuinely have nothing negative to say at all. I’ve never been so satisfied in all aspects of a commission. I can only say that I am lucky to have been accepted into their queue and I cannot thank them enough. This is my sixth fursuit and the only one I have loved so much that I just had to make a review.

  1. I somehow mistakenly wrote my initial contact down as April 2024, but that was when I first received a WIP. My first time speaking to them EVER was in October 2023. I apologize for any confusion on my behalf.
