Initial contact on instagram was easy with quick responses to any questions I had. The commission was organized quickly through DMs and payment went easily.
After the initial commission, I was hard pressed to get updates from the maker. I tried to keep the communication up by regularly responding to her story posts or sending updates of halloween themed accessories I’d picked up in anticipation of the suit, but I’d go multiple months without updates or replies. On some occasions, I’d be left on read for extended periods as well. I was never given any deadlines, any ETAs, or similar even when it came time for a partial refund for parts I did not recieve (mutually agreed upon), even if I asked for one.
I would’ve been perfectly fine with the completion time if I had had more regular updates on all the parts and when work would start. I was given neither of those, so the completion time for a mini partial was salt on the wound.
When I first saw the makers style, I was so excited to commission her. Whilst Haunt does fit the maker’s style, and at a glance looked fantastic in pictures, he was a mess “behind the scenes”. Partial lining in the facial region that wasn’t secured well and made of a rough cotton material, 12 holes after only 7 sessions of light to moderate wear, and the maker completely disregarded the list of furs I had researched and provided for her convienience.
The worst holes were in the mouth, The eyes, and around the ears and hair
Many of the worst holes didn’t appear to be sewn seams at all, as if they were forgotton or supposed to be glued down instead.
In all honesty, I would’ve been happy to overlook build stuff like this if I had just had more communication: regular progress updates so I could see and approve patterns, an aside to let me know she would use the materials she had on hand and would take my fur list as a color suggestion instead, and open communication on delays and ETAs on when work would resume.
The neck was very narrow, and it would painfully rub my nose to take the head on and off. Visibility was extremely poor and left my eyes strained as the eyes were too far up the head (I’d have to angle the head down to see). Wearing him would be moderately comfortable for the first 20-30 minutes, but after that he made my nose hurt from being squished. For reference, I have a small head at about 22in circumfrence. Ventilation was low-average.
As long as you didn’t look too closely, the head visually looked quite cool and incredibly photogenic. His expression was great and the fangs poking out was super cute. Close-up, though, you could see that one of his ears was not patterned correctly, that the black fur was low quality, and that the ears had not been shaped or trimmed making them look quite shaggy. Shaving was a bit sloppy around the markings, leaving some patches of very long marking colors I had to trim myself. Fur feel was almost crispy, reminiscent of the cheaper black shag from Jo-Ann’s. My fur choices were ignored and the orange mohawk was not UV reactive as I’d detailed on a document I’d made for and sent to the maker.
The paws are way too big. As in double my hand size levels of big. I’m not sure if it was a pattern printing error or if the pattern was genuinely that large, but wearing them as intended (5-fingered paws) caused genuine pain. To wear them, I’d have to wear them as 4 fingered paws, which wasn’t what I’d asked for.
Size aside, the visual look of the paws are great. The pumpkin pawpads looked so cool and the purple velvet claws were a great touch. They were symmetrical and the design itself was very clean. However, like the head, my fur choices were overlooked and so the UV orange minky I’d hoped for was just normal orange minky. Still looked good, but no under-blacklight glow. The black fur, again, wasn’t trimmed where it should’ve been, and left sections of long fur covering the pads in places.
The tail is fun and waggy, but heavy. I believe it is pure polyfil, but I’m unsure. The belt loop had to be replaced after a few months of wear as the old loop was not sewn on with the proper thread (it appeared to be a weak cotton thread) and was falling apart.
The jack-o-lantern face was well done, but the tail was completed with no check-ins about the design and therefore was missing the nose on the design. The shaving is alright, but again there were some portions of longer fur needing trimming. Once again, the black fur is lower quality, with the orange fur not being UV reactive per the document I’d put together.
