i can’t remember exactly what i said, but back in 2021 i had made a post on twitter looking for fursuit makers to commission, and SnyderDragDire had replied to my post saying that if i wanted to commission creature bc he’s mainly one solid color that he would only charge $500 for a mini partial!!!! that’s an incredible steal back then let alone today, i had been wanting a fursuit so badly for 5+ years at the time, and i had finally just started adulthood with adult money – so i obviously said yes on the spot!! my maker was very very kind to offer to make creature for me and without that offer i genuinely don’t believe i would’ve been able to commission a fursuit at all!
my maker was very responsive the whole process to my questions and making changes or doing extra requests for me, and was overall so very kind every step of the way!!! the offer alone was something very few come across and im very lucky to have had a seamless and incredibly positive experience with my first fursuit commission!! i was sent plenty of progress photos and updates thru the entire 7 months and my maker was very happy to incorporate both of our ideas into the final build!!!
like i said about it took just about 7 months total from the initial message about my twitter post to the day i received my fursuit in the mail, which i think is a perfect wait time for a mini partial (especially one with a special conditional offer)!!!! i definitely don’t feel that the project was rushed in the slightest as the quality of my suit is incredible in my opinion, and in the same breath i am also very grateful that my maker was able to bring him to life in under a year even when dealing with unfortunate life circumstances!! i’ve seen plenty of horror stories in my 10+ years of being a furry about fursuit commissioning experiences going wrong in every which way possible, and i can’t reiterate enough that i was very lucky to have had such a positive experience with SnyderDragDire as my first fursuits maker!!!
like i mentioned before, my head has cheek vents!! my maker offered to experiment with the idea for me and i said yes absolutely bc as an asthmatic i need all the airflow i can get, and i am always more than happy with the outcome!!! its very helpful when outdoor suiting bc its a few more places where a good breeze can hit my face, and even when indoor suiting i can blast a small fan directly thru my cheek and feel instant relief from wearing a giant carpet all day!! it will forever be a feature i think every foam base should implement where possible and definitely something on my fursuit detail preference list!!!
i am absolutely in love with this head!!! however before i get deep into it just to inform everyone – im 4 years late to writing this review (we listen and we don’t judge) so i will be including my FULL experience and timeline with this suit!!!! everything in this review is super positive just with details about use and experience with the suit over 4+ years time, so it will be quite thorough and detailed!!
it is a foam based head with the only hard items being the 3D-printed eye blanks, so it’s very lightweight, breathable and easy to wear and travel with!! the suit has one zipper along the back of the head and no extra padding. it still fits almost perfectly as it did when i first received it, however the inside has been stretched slightly by letting friends with bigger heads wear the suit (my fault), so besides the obvious wear n tear it still fits basically just the same as new! i believe the lining is lycra or something similar, it’s very comfortable and easy to clean! my maker was also able to experiment and install cheek vents into my suit – basically reinforced holes in the cheeks of the foam base and only covered in mesh right under the fur to allow more airflow – which they are very effective and i am so happy with the results!! the mouth is wide and can be opened easily which i personally like for drinking while suiting and also helps with the ventilation as well.
i will definitely say the vision on this suit would rate about 7/10 in my opinion just for a few reasons that i’ll list shortly BUT i genuinely would not change anything about how the suit ended up bc i really love how it looks!!! the eye mesh itself is hand painted (beautifully and i love it) but naturally it does have some clogged bits and is a tighter woven mesh overall, and the suit also naturally does have a larger blind spot due to the bigger muzzle and small-ish eye blanks. i will say being able to see out of the muzzle makes up for the lower blind spot, but his big hair poof on the top does flop around a bit and can sometimes block my vision.
obviously with the age of the suit it has been well loved and has a few flaws, i have worn it to 3 conventions and many other indoor/outdoor places in between along with just at home so i honestly don’t even know if i can accurately count how many hours i’ve worn it. there’s been a couple small things i’ve fixed myself – like sewing in a loose upper tooth, replacing felt around eye blanks, glueing popped eye mesh back in – basically general maintenance as you would with your car or home, but honestly i have no issue with that and i think that comes with owning a fursuit in my opinion! there’s obviously still a couple small broken seams here n there and always ideas for a 2.0 – but i genuinely think this suit has held up very well for what i’ve put it thru, definitely has plenty of years left in it to go, and i honestly don’t even think i want to pursue a refurb of this head!! to conclude, this suit head is still to date my favorite i’ve ever worn and owned!!
i absolutely love the overall look of the suit!! honestly for an almost five year old suit that i got for only $500, i would genuinely put it more towards the high quality range even with the years of wear n tear!! the furs chosen have held up very nicely and are very accurately colored to my character, the different fur lengths on the cheeks and hair have always been something i’ve been happy with, and the shave job on the face is so well done!!! the suit has plush teeth and a soft semi-pickable nose, and there is one magnet in the mouth for two tongues (one small plush and one large posable plush) however i rarely use them bc i would lose them haha. this likely can’t be seen in most photos but can be seen in person – i especially love the detail of leaving longer fur on the face for eyebrows since the face is all one fur color! other details i love include using two colors of minky for the nose like i requested, nailing the unique ear tear that my character has, and adding tiny special things like a “made with love by __” tag in the lining and even an among us doodle on the foam base to make it feel fun, personal to me, and like my maker genuinely cared about the outcome of the project. SnyderDragDire did a very good job executing the whole idea and im very pleased with every choice that was made during the commission process!!
one note on the hair poof – i love the shape, how it looks and love the fur used but do wish it was attached to the base in a way that it would stand up straight-ish in the middle while being floppy at the end more, instead of flopping to one side or the other entirely. this is something i’ve tried to correct myself (and attempts have been semi successful??) but honestly even with that one pretty unnoticeable detail i still love the look and have fun with it regardless. it’s very fun to flop the hair around and be expressive with it!!
the paws are incredibly comfortable and basically perfect for the price that i paid!!! they fit very nicely on my hands and have plenty of wiggle room which i personally like a lot, they’re lined with the same material as my head which i love, and i haven’t had any issues with any ink bleeding during cleaning or anything coming apart too much!! they’re very comfortable to wear for long periods of time and i sometimes like to use them as hand warmers or mittens in the colder months. the dexterity on them is also very good while still maintaining a big puffy paw look which im very happy with! one of the only issues i have is the lining does stick to my hands when they get really sweaty and comes out of place, it can be hard to fix right away without allowing some time to dry inside and is one of the reasons why i wish i requested finger escapes. but we live and we learn, this was my first fursuit commissioning experience so i know that part was on me for not doing proper research on that!
i absolutely love how these paws look!!! out of the entire suit they have definitely taken on the most wear mainly bc of the big beaded bracelets i like to wear on the paws and that has been rough on them, but obviously i take responsibility for that and it is MY fursuit lol. when i first got them the fur was very soft and the toes n beans were nicely puffy, and i love the length of the wrists since like i stated before i like to stack them up with bracelets. fours years later the fur shows its age under the bracelets brushed or not, the claws are a bit silly floppy and the stuffing in the fingers has obviously lost its fluff, but again for what i’ve put them thru over this long of a time they still look darn good!! there’s only one popped seam on the right palm bean and on the inside of the lining in the thumb, so i’d say having not repaired the paws at all they have been very durable! the only two things i wish i could change were these – 1. i wish i had asked for finger escapes (didn’t know they existed in the big ‘21) and that’s the only reason i think about commissioning a new pair bc that accessibility would make suiting infinitely easier for me, and 2. on the right paw (flaw paw haha) the fur on the inner wrist is facing the wrong direction! breaking news i’ve never mentioned it before haha but that’s bc i haven’t found it to be an issue!!! i just think it’s a funny quirk about my suit and it just makes brushing a bit less of a mindless activity, and i also believe that those little quirks are just what come with commissioning someone that isn’t a big name maker!! overall im very very happy with my pair of paws!!
i love both of the tails i received!! i had originally asked only for one – just the worm tail – but my maker was ever so kind and fulfilled my last minute request for a regular black cat tail as well!!! both are about the same length and weight about the same, and are the perfect length so they just barely miss the ground with my height!! i will say that the belt loops on the black cat tail have broken over time due to the sewing specifically on the loops ripping (likely due to my last minute request) and i have yet to fix it, but other than that ive had no issues with wearing either tail!!!! the worm tail has three secure belt loops compared to the regular black cat tails two loops, but both still felt secure and had very nice motion during the first couple years of wear before the black cat tail broke at least. the worm tail is still in perfect condition besides the smiley coming off and being dirty from outdoor use!
the black cat tail is made with the same long black fur as my heads hair and cheek poofs, and the worm tail is made with the same minkys as the ear and nose details on my suit as well as a small amount short black fur on the base. my maker and i decided to intentionally use a minky with a bubbly-like texture for the worm tail to give it a little more life and kinda make it feel more like a worm, and to save a bit of $ on fabric too and that’s been one of my favorite choices of the entire project! the worm tail did have a little minky smiley face appliqué at the end but i ended up taking that off after a year or two since it started falling off and i personally ended up liking it better without! the end of the worm tail does get a bit dirty on the bottom easily if i choose to wear it outdoors bc it does slightly touch the ground as i walk, but that’s cleanable and not a problem!! i do plan on getting replacement tails commissioned at some point as i want them to be longer (i love floordraggers) and want to be able to hook them up with a loop to keep them off the floor when i choose, but i currently don’t have anything fleshed out other than the design so i still use and love my current tails!!!
like i mentioned before, my head has cheek vents!! my maker offered to experiment with the idea for me and i said yes absolutely bc as an asthmatic i need all the airflow i can get, and i am always more than happy with the outcome!!! its very helpful when outdoor suiting bc its a few more places where a good breeze can hit my face, and even when indoor suiting i can blast a small fan directly thru my cheek and feel instant relief from wearing a giant carpet all day!! it will forever be a feature i think every foam base should implement where possible and definitely something on my fursuit detail preference list!!!
