Overall

Initial ContactI know Sambers for a couple of years now, at the time I was conversating with Sambers of Critterworkshop on telegram and in person.

We where talking about makers and Fursuits for my newly made character Fernir.
I had troubles finding someone to bring Fernir to life, i had contacted a popular US-fursuitmaker before.

But to no avail as i coudnt get through the queue and others at the time weren't open.

Eventually we landed on the topic that she could help me.
She had time after her previous project just completed and offered the next slot to me.

After seeing her previous work and felt comfortable that she was up to the task, And I proceeded with commissioning Critterworkshop.

Maker CommunicationI had a great experience with Critter workshop in terms of communication.
As all fursuit commissions started, I needed to make a duct tape dummy.

As I was inexperienced with this, Sambers walked me through the process of making one.
This was helpful and I got the Duct tape dummy made in no time.

unfortunately, i made some mistakes on my end, which resulted that the duct tape dummy wasn't stable enough for Sambers to work on.

Sambers immediately offered her help with making one with me at her workshop.
As someone who has little to no experience doing this, this was a great relief.
Especially as i was afraid that I'd mess it up again.

once the duct tape dummy was in, the waiting game started, and it didn't take long until the first updates started to come in.
I was pleasantly surprised as previously commissioned projects never had that quick flow of communication and updates (if updates at all).

it started with simple things like fur samples and general shipping updates of the fur, and eventually worked its way up towards the process pictures of the fursuit bandana, the tail, and the hand & feetpaws.
She also explained to me what she was doing in detail and what she is working on and what to expect next.
I found this to be a great relief, especially that I never needed to ask for updates as they came regularly on their own.

Project Completion TimeAfter 3 months in July 2021, Critterworkshop completed my fursuit commision of my character Fernir.
This was quicker than I had anticipated for as fursuit commisions of this complexity usually takes 5 to 8 months.

No shipping has been done so this sped it up aswell, as I picked up my Fursuit before an event at their former workshop location.

Overall Project QualityIm really satisfied with the work that Crittersworkshop had done for me, the fursuit looks amazing and is really sturdy and comfortable to wear.

Changes had been made to the fitting of the suit in prior conversation with Critterworkshop, as it was a bit too roomy for me around the armpits.

Critterworkshop fixed this for me within the week and after that it fitted perfectly.
The build quality reflected this, Aswell.

What for me is the most important that the suit is strong and durable.
This is reflected in the love that is put in the suit and the amazing work that Critterworkshop has put on the sewing of the body suit.

Its stichted double in high stress areas like the crotch and armpits, which is needed for the crazy shit I do with it.

Im a traveler myself and I took my Fursuit all over the globe, from the deserts of Nevada to the Scandinavian snowlands of Sweden.
And so far, the fursuit held strong and still looks amazing after all of this traveling.

I also had no issues putting the head under the front chairs in front of me in the plane which is a must for me.

Components

Head

Wear SatisfactionIm really satified with the head, Fernir his head Fits well and is really sturdy as described as above, and I can see quite a lot with the eyes,
At first I had problems putting the head on as I wasn’t used to a soft back flap that Critters had made for me.
This was a case of getting used to it, another thing is that my glasses are too big for the fursuit head, this results in me being partially blind if it's about reading anything in fursuit.
luckily I don’t do this when im being a big floofy dog but might be aswell good to mention.
Would advise to wear lenses.

summarizing this:
is Fernir's head getting hot quickly?
I was going to be afraid that a toony suit was going to be very hot, and especially the head.
however this isnt the case, Sambers made the head optimized for long suiting sessions.
on the back of the head there isnt any foam, which a lot of toony suits that I tried on in the past had.

Its 'Cool' when it needs to be, since it doesnt have a back foam padding.
if it gets to hot, i have room left to wear an EZ cooldown collar to cool me down.

so far I didn't need it with Fernir.

What climates did you wear your head ?
I live myself in a relatively wet climate / cold climate.
I've worn Fernir in the cold snowy landscape of the US and Sweden while it was -20 to -30 Celsius which is around -4 Fahrenheit and his head kept my face warm.
and I've worn Fernir in the Desert nearby Las Vegas which in turn kept me a bit cool because of the neck flap.

keeping in mind that its still a fursuit you are wearing in the desert

How is the vision?
I would say great, I can see what I need to see while keeping in mind that you still wear a fursuit head.
however wearing glasses is a no go as mentioned above.

Weight
I wouldnt consider the overall head being heavy, Fernir's head is very lightweight in that sense.

Traveling experience?
Traveling with a toony head was definitely a challenge the first time, especially since i had never done this before.
With KLM and Delta flights i managed to but Fenrir's head under the chair infront of my seat while transporting him in a Albertheijn bag (local Dutch Supermarket bag made out of durable plastic)

I havent had any damages from the extensive travels i've done with Fernir.

How easy can I put him on?
I had issues at first putting on the head, I haven't had any experience with this kind of toony heads.
and since it didn't had a back foam:
I have to pull the fur slight and putting my hand on his hair in order to put him on.

this was a learning curve that i had to get and took me a bit to figure out.

Visual SatisfactionCritterworkshop has done a great job on making fernir come to live, the furcolors on the head look amazing and his hair feels and looks great!
The eyes colors also perfectly match his refrencesheet and im still stunned by how he came out

How is the symmetry?
The symmetry on the lines / hooks on his cheeks where extremely well executed and i keep receiving compliments on how people love how it looks !

Is the shaving even?
Yes, the shaving is even.

and, how soft is he?
Fernir is very soft, the fur is high quality and well stitched as far as I can tell.

The hair

one of the Keypoints i found important was the hair for fernir, as this is his signature

One-Piece Body

Wear SatisfactionAre you satisfied with how it fits you?
The body suit fits me well and had once a adjustment done to it to made it fit me even better.
What found handy that Critterworkshop has put on my suit was a zipper system on the tail, this way it makes the tail looks seamless and it’s a small thing that really does a lot.

How is the quality and durability?
Critterworkshop has done a great job on this department, the double lining in high stress areas ensures that it durable and stable
What is the interior like?
You can see the stitches and some internal lining done, however i have yet to find one suit where this wasnt the case.

How is the airflow?
the airflow is good, i haven't had to wear my EZ cooldown suit yet with my fursuit, underarmor is a recommendation as this ensures the inside of the suit stays clean and does a good job of keeping you cool.

Visual SatisfactionThe body suit looks just like the head like a piece of art, He is soft and looks just like my refrence sheet. Im especially a big fan of the grey Critterworkshop manage to find for my fursuit.
Thanks to this, grey has become my new favorite color on characters.

How is the symmetry?
The symmetry is even, no complaints!
How does the material (e.g. fur) feel and look?
Fernir his fur is very soft and the materials that where used for this bodysuit are high quality!
this reflective throughout the rest of the suit aswell.

Does it match the concept art?
im happy to report that it matches my refrencesheet fully.

Hands

Wear SatisfactionThe handpaws are very comfortable to wear, especially during the cold weather landscapes I brought my suit to in the past.
The hands are puffy 4 fingered which comes with the downside that you cant hold things properly and at times I need help with putting them on, this is by design of 4 fingered paws.
Practice makes perfect and this is something you can learn to do yourself though.

Visual SatisfactionCritterworkshop has done a great job making it look like canine paws, on photos they look great, as a furry I have to say that you can give great pets with them! Very important ofcourse!
the beans also look and feel amazing and is one important things on the hand paws if I do say so myself.
The fursuit paws also really integrate really well with the rest of the body, and it looks seamless and attaches really well thanks to the finishing lining that Critter made on my suit!
im also happy to report that this part matches my refrencesheet fully.

Tail

Wear SatisfactionAs mentioned earlier in the review, it has a handy attachment mechanism which was getting used to at first, I still at times had fur getting stuck in it.

with some practice this became less of a problem as time went by, the tail has a sturdy attachment system to the belt, in the past I had Fursuit where this wasn’t as sturdy as this tail, so it was nice to see that my tail attachment sleeve was sturdy.

Visual SatisfactionThe tail matches a maned wolf tail, not too long and not too short.
Just perfect sized and it feels like a fursuit tail should feel
The colors go over seamlessly to the body and I have no complains here from my end as it matches my refrencesheet fully.

Feet

Wear SatisfactionFunnily enough, the feetpaws are my favourite part of the suit, believe it or not.
I wear my feetpaws at time at home aswell for this reason.

the feetpaws are outdoors and are a one size fits all solution (aka size 40 to 45 European size).

They are very comfortable to wear and the soles are sturdy and held up great during my trip to Las Vegas with the suit, as I was afraid the rocks would damage the soles which was not the case.

Visual SatisfactionThe feetpaws look great and fit well with the rest of the suit, the brown color that Critterworkshop used really shines here and the nails are soft so they are easier to transport without change of damaging the suit.

For the rest these feetpaws are great and they work really well as slippers within the house.
Because of this, I ordered an extra pair of indoor feetpaws.
im happy to report that it matches my refrencesheet fully.

Special FeaturesMy suit has no special features, aside from the tail zipper which I would consider a special feature.

This means the reviewer would recommend Critter Workshop.

Final CommentsI fully recommend working with Critterworkshop!
As Critterworkshop helped to bring my first toony fursuit commision to life and cant thank them enough for that.
Critterworkshop shines in clear communication and updates which is a rare occurrence in the current landscape and helped me a lot in giving advise on how to measure as well as providing me a lot of help In the process.

This is greatly reflected in the overal quality of the work that critterworkshop has done on my fursuit.
I would highly recommend them if you were looking for an amazing toony fursuit or for fursuit parts, as they keep you well up to date with their telegram channel and a up to date Trello.
Thank you Sambers, you where a pleasure to work with!
