Overall

Initial ContactIt was very simple, I saw them advertising an opening on social media and filled out a form online that linked to their terms of service with what they might need from me.

Maker CommunicationAfter filling out the google form, they switched to email and we talked back and forth about plans, prices, and options. They were very prompt, often responding in less than a few hours but always within a day. The communications were always pleasant and generally business-like, with clear communication on what they would do and what it would cost.

Project Completion TimeThey added my project to an online queue where I could see exactly what had been completed and when it was done. As each step was completed, they emailed me pictures and updates to get my approval and/or inform me on their progress. They gave me a rough deadline of when they expected to be done with the project, and delivered it a little earlier than that, just in time for a con I mentioned I was attending. Upon shipping, they provided tracking for each box via USPS.

Overall Project QualityI am extremely satisfied with the quality of the suit. While I am gentle with it, I feel like I can toss it on pretty quickly and without fear of it tearing. I am so happy with how all the little or finicky parts (teeth, tongue, horns, toes, claws, and especially the fin) look, feel, and are durable. The airbrushing on all the stripes, fins, and wings are immaculate, and how the suit zips all together for a very uniform look is gorgeous.

Components

Head

Wear SatisfactionThe head fits great, and is light and comfortable to wear. Its interior is well-lined with a soft neoprene fabric, so there's nothing that rubs me or causes discomfort on my head or neck. It's very breathable: I've worn it with a balaclava, as recommended, and haven't felt much sweat buildup on the interior after longer (4+ hour) sessions (I do tend to take it off for a short break every 30-60 minutes.) I do spot cleaning on the head, which fortunately isn't required often. It has good vision for this type of head with no major blind spots, though a small ~2.5-5 degree arc directly in front of me is hard to see. However, even with the whole suit on I can turn my head easily for more vision.

Visual SatisfactionMy head is fantastic, I cannot overstate how pleased I am with it. The makers went above and beyond what I expected them to do, where they consulted additional art from my social media accounts of Setrahn. They made sure that the brow scales and chin scales were fully plush and formed, and all the fur evenly trimmed despite all the various contouring. The airbrushing on the fin is marvelous work, and the fin spines and horns are firm and hold their shape very well, though it does require being extra careful when putting away in storage (as pressure in one direction or the other could alter the symmetry). The four-pointed star marking on the forehead looks and feels great! Lastly for the standard expression, his plush teeth are fantastic and excellently pointed.

I additionally got 4 eyelids (sleepy, sad, sultry, and closed) that can be applied by soft velcro on the eyes. While I love the regular expression and demeanor of the face, these add so much emotion to him as well! 2 tongues also came with the head, one shorter (just long enough to blep out) and a longer one that comes out about 2 inches, that are easily swapped via velcro in the mouth.

One-Piece Body

Wear SatisfactionThe bodysuit is a perfect fit for me, allowing for a large range of movement. It seems very durable, and has held up very well for the first 30+ hours with no seams having popped.

The interior is unlined, but it slides on easily. It is hot, of course, but lighter than other fursuits as the "scales" on the front are essentially not furred and is cooler than the rest

Visual SatisfactionThe suit matches what I sent them to the letter. It's symmetrical, with the wavey dark green stripes correctly apportioned and placed. The fur is soft, evenly cut, and easily brushed (though its short enough that it's not terribly required). I find myself absentmindedly "petting" myself with how nice it feels. All the colors were matched well, with the stripes being slightly air-brushed to get closer to the gradient on the reference concept art. There are zippers on the arms to fully attach to the hand-paws for a seamless look, but they also supplied cuffs to zip on for easier access to my hands if I know that I'll need to take a paw off quickly. Similarly, there's zippers for the footpaws as well. These render a fantastic one-piece look that makes for great photos.

There's slits along the shoulder-blades for the chibi-style wings. While the wings sag a bit to the left and right, they don't require an additional harness and look fantastic. The markings in the concept art were perfectly matched through even more airbrushing.

Lastly, there's a hole cut out near the butt for the tail to zip into, with little slits for a belt to hold it up and keep it in place, which also renders a seamless look. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the results.

Hands

Wear SatisfactionThe hands are 5-finger paws with plush paw pads that fit well over my hands, though the wrists are a bit tight to get around my palms. They give me decent dexterity and I don't feel like I need to take them off to do basic tasks. I can even easily zip up the rest of the suit with the paws on allowing me to get set up in the suit without a handler. They have zippers to attach to the body suit, but the makers also provided me with cuffs so I can easily take the hands on/off by myself without a handler and still look uniform.

The seams are very durable, even with me pulling them over my palms rougher than the rest of the suit. The interior is not lined, but absorbs sweat appropriately. They can easily be cleaned.

Visual SatisfactionThey look and feel great, and the fact they have zippers to attach to the bodysuit gives them a very clean one-piece look. Even when I use the optional cuffs with them, they still look fantastic. They're mirrored very well from each other, the pile is even, and the materials feel very soft and nice. The beans are plush and everything I could ask for. And the black claws are one of my favorite parts! They're plush, but firm, so you can feel being "scratched" by them but are very soft. While there are no markings, the colors match my reference sheet perfectly.

Tail

Wear SatisfactionThe tail is a big honker, and as such needs a belt specifically to hold it up, but it is very comfortable and is appropriately sized for what I wanted. It drags on the ground a little, and the makers provided me with a nice tail cover to protect it from damage or stains incurred from carpets or rough ground. It has a hole with belt loops where it zips into the bodysuit like the other non-head parts to give it a uniform look.

Visual SatisfactionMy reference has a large fin standing straight up on it, which is quite difficult to achieve, but the makers did a great job. It looks fantastic, with the airbrushing on the fin and stripes. I am very satisfied with the materials and how it feels – both in wearing it and in actual touch.

Feet

Wear SatisfactionThe feetpaws feel great to wear and allow for good movement. They zip into the suit (and have opposite zip patterns, i.e., which side the pull slots into for easy identification of which foot is which) for a uniform look that will stay on regardless of movement. They are quite durable, with a textured rubbery underside for durability. They are lined with the makers' neoprene and have pockets for the digi look and padding. The claws are soft while holding their shape well. I also have a set of nearly identical indoor paws from them with the underside fully rendered, and they also feel great, with padding for the beans and good material choices.

Visual SatisfactionBoth sets of feetpaws look fantastic, from how shapely the toes are to the claws being a deep black felt-like material. They match the concept perfectly.

Final CommentsStarcane arts were wonderful people to work with, and I look forward to meetups with my "fursuit family" as it grows. They were able to bring my admittedly complicated design to reality and were extremely communicative at every step of the way. I'd recommend these makers to anyone looking to have their design brought to life.
